Demigod players - tell us something about yourself

We don't really have an introduction thread here on the dg forums, so here it is.  Please chime in if you come across this thread and want to participate in the forums.

Let's start with me.  I'm pacov.  I'm a 32 year old gamer out of Columbus, OH.  I played originally as pacov, joined clan Oh My Gentlemen (silly fun story there) and change my nick to OMG_pacov.  I mostly play in Demigod as cheesuscrust anymore.  I'm a programmer by day for a fortune 1000 company and a huge nerd by most nights playing dg.  I didn't pick up DG in the beta, but intentionally bought the game at launch knowing it had more than few issues with pirates, etc. I still actively participate today and apparently initiate all of our community tournaments (the latest of which starts 10/16/2010 - which you can still register for).  I'm one of the arrogant folks willing to call themselves tier 1 players (eg the best folks at demigod), but I don't have any issue playing with other folks for fun.  I'm all for making our community a better place and seeing demigod thrive.  Other silly notes - I'm married and have a rotten cat.

and - if you would offer more information, you would say?

I'll tell you briefly about the hedgie I know - he's a passive aggressive guy.  He loves DoW2.  He loved Dg first.   He's one of the best senda's in DG (but a little rusty - my senda should not be compared to yours ever).  He own's civ5 and loves it.  He's somewhat ellusive and hard to predict.  I believe he works for amazon.  He was in the upcoming tourney but turned his place over to kalel.  His internet is spotty.  He's incredibly good with numbers.  This guy can look at dg code and find inconsistencies and strategies to exploit.  How many of you know exactly how many seconds until a monk will heal or how many heals will occur if 2 dgs are standing there with 1 monk and how much those heals are equal to.  Anyway, he's a smart guy and gets numbers.  I actually defer some of my questions to him if I don't know about this or that effect in dg - and he knows or quickly finds out the answer.

Got anything to say for yourself?

Hello,

I am Zen_God. I started playing the demigod demo since release. I bought the actual game when it was out for 6 months, ( there was a weekend special for $15 and I was under the influence lol) . I got obsessed with this new type of genre combined with beautiful graphics. My goal is to become the very best at this game, even though it won't make you many friends on the way.

To my person, I'm 22 years old and am in my junior year of College. My major is television/film production. I work at  the PBS television station. Even though I spent a lot of time with video games you could say I party and study a lot. I think this is only possible in the United States. I was originally born in Germany but grew up bilingual in Spanish and German because my mom is from Latin America. This upcoming year I will try for the American citizenship. Then I really do not know anymore what I am xD

PS: I think this post is a great idea, I'm anxious to see your lives besides demigod :-)

Well I'm Jon Galt obviously.... The 26 at the end of my name comes from the unavailability of the name and was suggested by hotmail sometime in the mid 90's so i just kept it for some accounts.  Most games have a login name then a separate screen name but not demigod.  By the time i learned how to change the account name i had already started posting in the forums and met a bunch of people in the game so I figured i'd just keep it. I typically go by Ragnar or some form of it, based on the character Ragnar Danneskjold from the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand - I highly recommend it.  (John Galt is another character in the same book.)

I picked up Demigod in May of last year and have loved it since.  Pacov allowed me to play with him, kalel, trousersnake, shade, hedgie & rawr who taught me the game.  I'll always be greatful that such good players took the time to do that.

Some folks call me Father Jon [originally by Ninki, mostly due to my age of 35, and others for other reasons lol (Zen God doesn't know it, but i'm his real father - I always had a thing for Latin Ladies, or just ladies in general).  I currently live in Philadelphia but have lived in Ohio, Louisville, Annapolis, Atlanta & Orlando.  I have two kids (Nick - 4, Charlotte - 3), 2 dogs, 2 cats and a wife who goes to bed early enough so i can play games.  I work as a project manager / cad & network manager for an architectural firm but went to school for mechanical eng.

In my youth (pronounced Yoot by Joe Pesci) I played football, baseball, basketball, soccer and wrestled.  I used to be a raver/club goer but settled down after i met my wife.  She told me that there's more to life than partying and gaming.  While the graphics outside may be slightly better I'm still trying to figure what's more better (well my kids are a blast though :-)

:O

See you guys around!

I'm 33 and started playing Demigod just after release and became addicted.  I was really looking forward to them fixing the connection issues because I was assuring everyone at that time that once they got around to balancing the game and fixing all the bugs, Demigod would become the next Starcraft.  So... thats one thing about me, I don't mind admitting when I'm wrong.

I live in Hawaii and am a humble civil servant who works for the County of Maui.  I live with my girlfriend and we have a dog and a cat... I named the cat Dexter after the greatest TV character around, and my girlfriend named the dog Bella.  Yes... I have been dragged to see every single twilight movie to date.  Sometimes I catch myself hoping that the sun will explode so that they will not be able to make any more of those movies.

I like surfing, hiking, frisbee golf, I sometimes get dragged by my friends to play real golf when I have low willpower, my favorite book is Catch-22, in fact I used to like reading quite a bit, but then I read a book called Atlas Shrugged... kinda ruined the reading experience for me so I won't be doing that anymore.  Just kidding... still waiting for George to finish A Dance Of Dragons.

And I like playing video games.

So my real name is Max, its not short for anything. I am 27 living in the best main land state... California. I got the nick name maxsteel while working summer camp when one of my kids started calling me that. The 32 in my name was my varsity basketball number in high school i just always us it if the name maxsteel is already taken.

I started playing DG when my video game buddy Sebacoyl bought the game for me, around Christmas last year, saying I had to play with him. Yeah I got hooked pretty fast. I learnedfrom a couple of guys like Thundercles and playing against Heros-Temp and anyone else that was ranked high every chance I could. After each game I saved the replay really learned the most from watching. Im kind of known now i guess for playing DA. I started playing him early on, I honestly can't remember why I liked him at the time maybe it was an underdog thing since everyone said he sucked. Anyway Sebacoyl told me to stop playing DA and to play UB cause DA sucked. If you know me that is a challenge especially in video games i get very, i don't know very optimistic... competitive.... confident? Something like that, basically that i can win when im down,  so anyway because of that I kind of made mastering DA my project.

I don't know about you but I see allot of adds on TV about how education can get you a better job or just a job period. Well I finished my masters and then found that nobody wants to hire me with a MA in music. Super lame. So right now I am unemployed  :'( . That fact will hopefully change soon or I just might move out of the country. I am like most people these days in that I like all forms of entertainment. TV, Movies, Sports. I watch basketball and football almost religiously, I play ultimate Frisbee when I can, I golf when I have money, and I used to be a hardcore rock climber but with grad school and moving around the last couple years I have gotten out of climbing shape hopefully that will change as soon as I land a steady job, oh I kill the fantasy football.  I read if I already think the book is awesome.... so yeah I don't do it too often since how are you supposed to know if the book is awesome if you have never read it. Although I am waiting anxiously for The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss.

Hey, i didn't know that! You know what's funnny, i read it for the first time one year ago (sept. 2009), just i was starting playing DG, and for some time i kept recommending it whenever reading came up as a subject in Demigod lobbies lol  . I guess you were never in any of those lobbies hehe

I do love reading too, i've read pretty much any genre, but i've found myself lately just rereading my personal favorites, specially hardboiled crime ficition (Red Harvest, Pop. 1280, anything from the greatest (imho) R. Chandler, some Ross McDonald lately)... I was looking forward to reread the great "Post Office" from Bukowski but the copy from my nearby library has gone missing :\

I've heard great things bout the Song of Fire and Ice series from that britton guy, but i don't feel too much like going back to the fantasy genre, i would need someone to sell me on it.... :-"

P.S: I haven't gone to bed yet (it's only 22pm here lol), which means you won't probably see me today in DG until really late for you, something like midnite east time, just fyi;)

I'm 22 and a full-time college student studying business admin in Lincoln, NE.  I've spent a stupid silly amount of time playing games throughout college.  Played Tribes I until it died.. then moved onto WoW, which I played extensively for several years.  After finishing in a top 10 world guild and getting bored with the game, I looked for something else to take up my time.  Unfortunately I found another game instead of something like helping the hungry in Africa or creating my own company or something.  So I started playing DG as much as I played WoW.  I've cut back a bit tho ;)  I'm also in the national guard, playing French horn in the 43rd Army Band.  I enjoy golfing during the summer, and partying a couple times a month.  Otherwise I'm generally an introvert.  When I'm not in school, playing my instrument, or gaming, I'm usually reading or watching some t.v. series.  I'm a big fan of the Sword Of Truth book series and the Wheel of Time series beside a lot of classics.  I live by myself in an apartment after having a terrible experience with a roommate in a very, very small college dorm.

Oh ya.. and my name (RAWRRRR) came from playing a lot of reg when I first started playing.. every time I killed someone I would be all like "RAWRRRR".. so I figured rather than type it every time I killed someone I'd just have it as my name.

lol.. Maxsteel my brother has a BA in music performance and got a job in insurance.  Many places just want a college degree ;)  Can always find a job in some small town teaching music, too!  That's what most of my music major friends have done (I know a lot of music teachers in small towns around Nebraska lol)

Nom, this is me selling you A Song Of Fire And Ice:

Most fantasy series are absolute garbage.  The heroes are do gooder weenie-boys, the villains are card board cut outs bent on world domination or destroying the world for no good reason.  Sometimes stories are set in interesting worlds that become boring and almost smaller in a way as the story progresses.  And sometimes lame stuff takes place like quests to find the magical talking chicken of Kalambeboo-boo or whatever.

Not A Song Of Fire And Ice however.

There is magic in the world Martin's created... but its almost like a post apocalyptic fantasy world where theres only a small bit of it left, just enough to make things interesting, but not enough to make it silly and distract from the storyline.  The dragons are dead, the gods are asleep, and the nightmarish creatures that nearly wiped out humankind haven't been seen for a thousand years... and people have forgotten what their ancestors had built a REALLY HUGE wall to keep out.

But really the best part of the book is the characters, they're all fleshed out really well.  The only bad thing is, the author sometimes shows you the reason the story's villains are the way they are and it makes it hard to keep detesting them as much as you did... especially when you find out the heroes aren't as awesome as you thought they were when faced with tough choices.

Anyway, sorry to semi-hijack the thread Pacov, but Nom needs to read this series!

yea no kidding!

I'm currently 2/3rds of the way into book 3.  I was almost finished with book 1 when the friend who implored me to read it informed me the whole series hasn't been written yet.  I wasn't very happy about that since i like to read all books in a series back to back.  My friend did tell me though that there is a good stop point at the end of book 3 and another friend told me to go ahead and read book 4 lol.

Nomilarac, this is a great series, to add to what Thunder said:  The "fantasy" components are non-existent in book 1, barely in book 2 and only lightly touched on in book 3.  Otherwise this series could easily be set in medieval times.  The writing itself is excellent, although long-winded with some insignificant descriptions.  The character development is decent, not great, but good however this development spans everything that i've read so far.  What i mean by this is that the story jumps around a lot and narrates from the various perspectives of the various characters  so while the overall development of each character is done well, it's done in a piecemeal fashion.  This means that there isn't really a primary character to follow but a suite of characters for better and for worse.

Overall, thus far, i am very pleased with it and highly recommend it.

Jongalt:  Your friend who said to stop at book 3 was correct.  Martin decided that book 4 was going to be way to long so he divided it into two books, one with all the really good storylines, and one with all the sorta meh character storylines.  Guess which one got published first?

4Nana:  I loved it!  One of the quotes on the video was priceless to me... "If this movie hits theatres, I'm gonna force my girlfriend to watch it with me."

Max:  Last year's League Champ right here.  I always pick up the Larry Johnson or Chris Johnson mid-round pick thats gonna dominate for the year, but the rest of my team is always a bunch of turds.  Last year was different though...  Anyway, if it makes you feel better, my sister was going to school to be a guidance councilor right when the budget crisis hit California.  Poor girl can't even get an interview for her chosen profession.

Orcun:  Funny how you look like the boxer you played in the game.  When you beat us in the tourney, would you mind hopping on our vent channel and doing that maniacal laughter thing?

I from Russia (Siberia). 27 years. Working as PR-expert in the telecommunication company. Has grown fond Demigod at first sight from the date of release (but couple of weeks played the piracy version to estimate). Always took a great interest in strategic games (civ, sc, heroes, disciples), but after DG has sat down on MOBA-games. I play also in LoL, but DG the best game which has changed my life. It is married, to the son of 6 months.

I am working to become a illustrator, and visual developer and start my own illustration company called Black mage illustrations. Yes I love the name black mage, but not because I am a black man, but because the black mage is by far the most dominating force throughout FF histoy! I play demigod sometimes but current game I playing is Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Also if I haven't made it painfully obvious by now, I also love asian women XD.
