Pirate missions

So the diplomacy expansion allows players and AI to offer pirates missions... I tried this out and it didn't work to well.

I offered the pirates 13k cash to form a 'massive' fleet made up of 300 or so pirates against a specific AI's planet. After I clicked "make offer", it took me back to the pirates page and when I moused over the pending offer I noticed the planet I targeted was wrong, about 8 jumps wrong. Also I saw a small fleet consisting of 40-50 pirates max assault the first planet of the AI I targeted and that wasn't even the planet I specified or it wrongly targeted.

There was no confirmation the offer had been accepted but my money disappeared and there was no 'massive' fleet attacking the AI i targeted at all.

So I'm not sure how offering pirates missions is supposed to work... but this experience didn't go to well.

Remember that there is the bounty system which also sends out the pirates. This may have been what you saw.

Nah, it most definitely was not the bounty system. I chose a target AI, target planet type and target planet then clicked "offer mission". I lost 13k in one go because that is how much I offered, not slowly applying bounty in $250 increments.

Ok, now that I reread everything (was tired last night) I see the issue. First, the 300 is a supply number, as in 300 supply worth of pirate ships, which are about 4 to 6 supply points each. Second, they have to travel from their base, across other planets to their target planet. So what you are seeing was merely the fleet you requested heading towards their target.

And yeah, its kinda lame. The pirates in Diplomacy are broken. Which is sad considering that they were one of the selling points of diplomacy. Hopefully Ironclad can free up some time to fix this issue.

Hopefully.
