the update that wasn't

impulse told me there was another update.  this made me happy.  maybe some bugs would be fixed.

still version 1.6? no update?  last updated 8/27/2010? this made me confused.  why did it tell me there was an update if there was no update?  i certainly don't see any mention of an update on the forums.

i can't load my game.  because of the update from 1.6 to 1.6... this made me angry.  f'ing bad game.  you guys suck.

Is your username a reference to yourself or the game?

Just curious.

it was a reference to the fact that i had to sign up for impulse just to play the game i spent fifty bucks on.  maybe i am old fasioned, but i think a game should be playable right out of the box.

p.s. I am never buying anything by stardock again.  although i doubt a company that produces this sort of shoddy crap will be around much longer anyway.

I suppose i should clarify.  if impulse tells you there is an update available DO NOT install it if you already have the 1.6 update.  it will render your savegames unplayable.

Maybe you missed the 1.6 hotfix... but yes it does make old games broken.

Save games were already unplayable. The second 1.6 update just added a hard check so that you couldn't even attempt to load them. Rather than letting you try, and getting loads of glitches. You either get the fixes, or you keep your saves. You can't have it both ways, whether you install the update or not. That's just the nature of updates.

Idiot you're 2 days behind and they warned people in the game even before hand.

That's intentional.  People weren't updating,  they were still getting bug reports from everything from beta versions to 1.06,  so they just killed all saves prior to 1.06 so they can get real data on the state of the game.

Personally,  I wonder how many of those beta version were legal...

You dont have to sign up to impluse to play either of stardocks games. It's completely optional.

They're also the only company that i know of that doesn't have any DRM in their games, although i have to admit i wish they'd release patches like every other studio, downloadable exe files.

Right now it feels like DRM by the back door, you can play it if you dont want to be on the internet but if you want any patches you have to install impulse and register.... right ok...

GBOR:

back to the point:

It was 1.06 to 1.061, just a hotfix, if you bothered to read the patch notes you'd know this.

I've seen games in worse condition on launch, and (many) in better.

Being Stardock I have some confidence it will improve, sorry you have written them off after just a few days.  I suspect they will be around for some time yet, though nothing in life is certain.

It's a shame about the backward compatibility of the patch - happens with lots of patches on lots of games unfortunately.

@dragoaskani - i already had the 1.6 update.  i had it two days ago, which you would have seen if you would have read my post.   idiot.

i was ok with losing the game i had been playing with the original update due to the 1.6 update.  i am not okay with losing the game that i had been playing with the 1.6 update due to the 1.6 update.

@cfehunter - what notes?  i spent some time looking for info on this "update" before i posted, all i found was info on the 1.6 update.  where is the info for 1.61?

if i could actually see what massive improvements were made from 1.6 to 1.61 perhaps i would be less annoyed...

retard there is 1.06 and 1.06.18 guess which one the second one was.  As posted by Boogiebac the other day

"** Hotfix Update **

We've released a 1.06 hotfix - despite our intentions were to have 1.06 be more supportive of 1.05 saved games, things didn't work as planned and we were seeing a lot of oddities throughout the forums.

The hotfix will force the player to start with the new data, ensuring validity of key components (read: less crashy).

Enjoy!"

So deal with it. btw you are still an idiot.

Look for 'hotfix update' on the bottom of the changelog.

oh, i am so sorry.  why in the world would i expect this information be readily available without having to search through these forums?    a simple readme file would be nice.

thank you.   that just confirms why i am annoyed.  there was no update.  they just made all previous savefiles unusable, whether or not they were already 1.6. and the reason i could not find any info on the "hotfix" was because they just edited it into the old update thread.

Actually sir, the evidence suggests that it is you who is the idiot.

"thisisretarded" appears to have quite a valid point, if the 1.06 HOTFIX prevents loading of the original 1.06 games (which were in theory the same version since the hotfix was simply to stop loading 1.05 and early games) then that is a huge mistake on Stardock's part.

Furthermore I take issue with your apparently assumption that owners of Elemental should expect 1.06 HOTFIX to break all their previous save games. Impulse makes absolutely no mention of it, even if you search the History readme file (as of yesterday anyway). No average owner of Elemental should therefore be expected to know about it, only serious fans who frequent the forums on a daily basis.

1.06 or not, the game is broken beyond playing ATM, it crashes every hour or whatever and when you reload your game all your squads get cut to 1 unit (From the 4-8-12 the were trained as)...

Its a VERY lame launch for sure but Elemental is an excellent game and will entertain you for years to come, I'm just not playing it anymore until some real patching happens :/

Go the "My Games" tab in Impulse, right click the name of the game, select "View History". Enjoy your patch notes.

It's simply amazing...

the more patches and support this people spend time with...

THE MORE THEY GOT VERBALLY ACCUSED of doing crap work and loosing a customer

It was stated that this game would only be a skeletal structure on which we and the developers will build a enhanced perfected game

i dunno... if it's normal that people don't get it... THIS WAS ALMOST PLANNED! IT'S SIMPLY A NEW WAY TO DEVELOP A FULL GAME BY HEARING PEOPLE SUGGESTIONS.... IF YOU ARE A OLD FASHIONED GAMER YOU WANT YOUR LAUNCH SERVED ON THE TABLE JUST WAIT AND LEAVE MODERN PEOPLE TO WORK FOR YOU XD!

It's you who are amazing ! Amazing how much you need to get your head out of your rear part ... That level of fan boy self-blinding is amazing .. If I read you well, EWoM is supposed to be a nice community project made by enlightened people as opposed as the sore losers who dare asking something worthwhile in return for their 50 bucks .. Cause yes that's the major flaw in your "reasoning" (and in caps cause people like you think anybody not in their frame of mind have to be complete morons so you got to outline things for them ..) this isn't a freeware nor it's a reduced price game because it's sill in the build. And NO it's not stated clearly that it will still be in the build .. It flies to the shelves in its unfinished state and potential buyers are supposed to be aware that Stardock is well known to refine their game over time .. If it must be like this from now on then let us customers buy games over time as well ... And you fanboys think things through a bit before you post ...

Same thing happened to me.  Patched to 1.06 in the evening and started a new game.  Spent a couple hours on the new game.  Next day, home from work and saw yet another patch was out so installed it and broke my save game.  Was confused so went into the chat lobby and someone helpful clarified for me what happened with the hotfix release just a few hours after the earlier patch.  Stardock should have given some kind of info about the subsequent hotfix so as to avoid puzzled inquiries such as this one.

Dogpiling on this guy for asking just a simple question just shows a level of fanboy immaturity that reminds one of the perils of open forums.

I'm simply stating what was absolutely obvious IF you had followed the preview campagin WHICH says clearly that this is a bit of an experiment for this own game developing and use of the same engine on future games... WHICH ALSO SEEMS to be not only a delusional fantasy of mine...

Of course you bought the game and apparentely have LOST your 50bucks or think so till they fix all the bugs............. OOOO I'M SO SORRY BABY MAYBE IT'S THE FIRST TIME YOU BUY A GAME AND GOT A BIT DELUDED OMG... I WANT MY MONEY BACK... customers which can only whine ARE NOT LOSERS CERTAINLY... NOR NOOB FOR SURE... i'm not that exaggerated (sounds like someone earlier who used the word "fanboy") but for sure you have LOADS OF EMPTY DAYS TO SPEND whining crying and lamenting because you bought something you where not satisfied... sometimes commerce is like this ^_^" i'm sorry... i'm more mind opened...

------------------

little example to clarify you ^ 0 ^: air conditioning system ururu sarara 12000btu..... bought on internet... arrived in perfect package but had two horrible scars on the external unit WHICH in humble opinion where not compromising the functionality of the product...

- parents whining (50 and 60 years old workers and wise and experienced people)

- technician asked to install the whole thing whining (another 45 yo worker and wise and experienced IN THE AIR CONDITIONING SECTOR MAN) and babbling about giving the whole thing back to the seller ^_^" (ridiculous)

- me and the other technician looking desperately at each other and impossibilitate to say a thing... (27 yo inexperienced and rush young "fanboy" of ururu sarara company and another 40 yo humble assistant) who where thinking "WTF????!!!!!"

HOW WE SOLVED? Called another technician who thinked exactly like me... "those are to scars... unless you care of the extetic install it the same..." oh well the air conditioning worked PERFECTLY AND SWIFTLY... elsewhere we would have had A VERY BAD SUMMER X'Dù

-------------------

NOW BACK TO US: i'm not equaling the ururu  sarara condition to elemental war of magic... maybe we have more the two scratches on the external unit... but MAYBE nothing irreparable... the real problem here is the attitude damnit...

you look like my parents who were so anxious to demonstrate FUCKING consumers pride by sending the whole thing back and whine a lot... (pal i bought TRADE EMPIRES and GRANDIA II and played them WITHOUT PATCHES and WITHOUT WHINING at the age of 20 o.o THOUGH those were 6 o 7 rated games... i enjoyed them... some of you act like kids because now we have full support on the net and we are listened for suggestions... that's wrong.... THE MAJOR THE CUSTOMIZATION POSSIBILITY THE MORE THE BUGS X'D, in their pants i will do a game more hardcoded just to not here this perpetual cry...)

by the way... sorry if i'm so sure of what i say and also have an outline for you :), but... you look like that man who buy and air conditioning system not knowing it will consume something like 1,2 kw power (unless you spend two days looking at the stats on the new choosing the one who consume the less), causing shortage in your house and giving probably health problems if you don't use it correctly...

are you gonna whine with the seller because you have headaches and/or shortages? me thinks not :)

@ snedly... it is also so retarded how people don't even know how to read...

yes we are dogpiling yes...

but he didn't ask anything... he just sayd he cannot distinguish a patch hotfix from the patch itself... that he didn't read like anyone else that savegames will be unvalidated... and JUST SAID it was probably a impulse / stardock error inviting other people NOT doing the dl if they already had 1.06 XD...

I think the dogpiling part is not because he asked a "simple question", which he didn't, but because he wallows in his attitude towards this game and Stardock.

We are all in the same boat, we are all unhappy that the game is not the finished, perfectly polished game we wanted it to be, we all took a risk by buying the game on release without waiting for enough customer feedback, there's no need to give in to such a condescending behavior over a hobby unless your intention was to provoke more condescending behavior.
