Resource spawning bugged in 1.06?

I spawned next to 3 Old Growth Forest, 3 Lost Libraries, and the usual starting Fertile Ground.

edit: Make that the above + 2 Gold Mines, another Lost Library, and two Iron Ore mines

Maybe you just got wicked lucky?

In my game I only had two starting resources - and one was from the iron mine leader pick.

It was pretty easy to find other sites for cities to expand to however, so its not so bad (plus I just rushed two enemy cities while they stomped around with a giant army. Go Go Gadget Double Score.)

Sounds like the start I just had, Mtrixis. This was actually before the 1.06 patch, so you probably got lucky is all.

I spawned not more than 5 or 6 steps away from 2 iron mines, lost library, arcane temple, old growth forest, 2 fertile land and 2 gold mines, 1 fruit orchard and wild game off in the distance for when my city levelled up :P

Haven't fired up 1.06 yet but in 1.05 I had luck like this.  The starting loc seemed pretty nice and as I exposed more with adventure tech the area around my capital was insane for resources.  Most of the land 3-4 cities worth in any direction was pretty freaking barren though.

No, it's not just luck - I played dozens of games of 1.05 and never saw this happen, I've started up several games of 1.06 and seen absurd resource density near my starting spawn

edit: case in point, just started a game now:

My starting position in my one and only game, that I'm still playing, I started with only a Fertile Land. As my Adventure Tech went up, it opened up a Pumpkin Patch, an Apiary, and a Gold Mine. That's it.

started a game with 1.6 and I am nowhere near your resource density.

I recommend you start playing money games NOW.

So (with your edit).
3 old growth forests, 4 lost libraries, fertile ground, 2 gold mines, 2 iron ore mines...... That you just spawned next? How the hell do you fit a city in that?
Your installation bugged.

I've noticed an increase in material bearing resource nodes since the last patch. Prior to it i was playing games and seeing 1 or 2 forrests or clay/marble/stone pits if i was lucky.

I can confirm OP experience.  I got the 1.06 patch and immediately noticed an increase in concentration of resources.  First game thought I was just lucky but the second game was even better/worse.  Two gold mines, two forests and two libraries next to the farmland.  I noticed another area on the map that had a similar layout next to an Alliance starting place.  It's cool, but gives you such a boost that it's too easy to steamroll all resistance once you get the resources flowing.

For me s well... tons and tons of resourses...

There must be something wrong with the new patch. Fire up a game and there are at least 6 resources in the immediate vicinity.

I believe it's tied to world difficulty. Start up a normal game, get 6. Start up a ludicrous game, get 0.

Just guessing.

I've not encountered this.  In fact, starting a game last night, trying to find a spot for my first city was challenging (in a good way) because resources were so sparse.  This was on normal world difficulty.

No, I had this happen on Challenging, Hard, and Ridiculous

... and I just started a game on normal next to a Fire Shard, Iron Ore, Gold Mine, Clay Pit, and the usual Fertile Ground

I too have started with ridiculously lush starting positions in 1.06.  The game I started last night gave me two libraries, a gold mine, an iron pit, a wood resource, and a few shards. all relatively closely packed. It was ideal.

And the maps have been just lousy with shards too. More of a nuisance at this point, since they dont do much of anything.

The amount of resources on your map as a whole is tied to world difficulty. The amount of resources by your starting position is random, just like the rest of the map. The only resource guaranteed to be near your starting position is a fertile land tile.

I have had the opposite luck on the game I am in.  I barely have any resources and it makes me sad.

That may be true, but I never saw starts like this in 1.05, and I played a lot of games

I think something that may be influencing it is the proximity of AI players - I noticed that in the games that I seem to be getting 'mega starts', there are several AI players nearby. It's almost like it's generating 'extra' resources for each player, and because the players are so geographically close to one another, you wind up with an absurd resource density.

Are there any debug commands? It would be easy to confirm this with a map reveal (or at least, a faster map reveal than equipping 20 +1 los rings :P)

Is there any chance we could have the resource density set as it's own option. I like to have the wilderness as a dangerous place, however I don't want the map to be devoid of resources either like the last few games I've played have been.

i have started two games with normal difficulty and normal size. First time didnt have that resources right where i spawned but next to it 2 lost libraries next to each other, old forest and gold mine. Second game was even crazier, Spawned next to fertile land, arcane tile, iron mine, 2 gold mines. 10 square radius from my location, i had tree lost libraries(two of then right next to each other), 2 iron mines, marble pit and a pumpkin patchand one earth shard.

Didnt have this amount of stuff when i started several 1.05 games. liked it better when you had to search for proper city sites. Now you cant walk without tripping on gold mine or such :)
