Elemental: Bugs & Suggestions

I didn't see a thread dedicated to bugs and suggestions, so I figured I'd start one that can be pinned.

Please just offer lists for ease of read by the devs. I think that will make things go smoothest.

Bugs:

1) Enemy caravan stuck after city conquest. Even when I've expanded the city, it pushes the caravan out a tile, but the caravan is not targetable and does not move.

2) Caravan text card has overlap. White text is overlapping the regular text on the top line. If need be, I can screen shot these. Added: Apparently its not isolated to caravans. Several unit cards have had overlapping text.

3) Alt-Tab causes crash virtually every time. This last time it simply said DXsomething and nothing else. No error number.

4) Tile targetting is a bit flakey. I click to go to one tile but often they go to tiles that aren't even close. It helps when grid is on. And sometimes clicking to attack makes them instead go around the enemy.

5) Turn syncing needs a tweak or two. Often my next turn has begun before the NPC turns have completed and my chars end up in the tile they were about to attack the creature in and the creature is 2 tiles away.

6) Upon placing a house, all of the walls of the city went haywire and they dont seem to want to fix themselves. City size is level 4.

7) Game froze up for a few minutes and nothing responded, so I pressed escape a couple of times. When things came back, the escape key had been queued up multiple times and thus the menu window needed to be closed multiple times.

8) Child aging seems to be twice that of the parents. Not really a bug, just something I noticed.

9) Mouse tends to stutter when dragging the map or edge screen scrolling. It'll like shake back and forth before it actually moves a little bit.

10) Casting the spell Imbue Champion causes a crash after confirmation every time. I am casting on the same square as my sov and unit I'm Imbuing and my sov has 11 essense to begin with. Crash logs sent to support...

For crashes, send the zip log files found in 'C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic' to support@stardock.com. The files are labeled Elemental1 followed by time and date code and about 3MB in size.

The game's been crashing alot today for me. I've sent a few emails with the crash zips attached. Hopefully things get resolved soon.

11) Periodically, my city names on the 3D zoomed in level will show up as opponent city names and colors. Everything internally seems to be fine, but the name and color of my city is now the opponents. Building something new seems to reset it, but it eventually goes back to a random other city name.

Suggestions:

1) As others have said in other threads, adding the ability to switch between the pre-seeded random maps and truly random (unbalanced maps as it were) via a toggle click in game would be nice.

2) In store equipment comparitor should be added. So we can see how the items for sale compare to the items our units have equipped.

3) Minimize function for the chat window in the overlay.

4) In game real clock (like civ 4 has so you can see that it's 5am and its time to go to bed... after one more turn).

5) It seems my offspring are always the first to die from autobattle. I dont know if it is due to a priority thing, but it'd be nice if they could outlive at least most of the members of the group. I had one battle where only my offspring character in the whole group died and everyone else was left intact without so much as a scratch.

6) Larger scrolling arrow icons for easier clicking. It's likely that will be in the Day 0 Patch though, but I didn't want to forget.

7) The Victory screen should show the defeated units at the top of the list for quick view of who you've lost.

Will add more as I find them. Please be constructive in this thread. Thanks!

Suggestion:

Add a button for default settings in each options tab.

It's not quite the same as adding a "default" button, but you can reset all the options (sadly can't pick and choose which tab) by deleting your prefs.ini file in My Documents\My Games\Elemental folder.

Laod games are not working for me.

It eighter crashes or doesn't properly load my towns or my sovereigns. In fact I get a big empty map.

Makes the game unplayable for me.

I'd like a way to speed up movement in tactical battles, it seems very slow to me for no reason

I have one bug more. If i start a game and play that for awhile and go to main menu and start a new game. Then it asks if im sure. click yes and the game crashes. Not every time but three times tried, twice crashed.

Okay, I had the weirdest bug: sometimes my armies will start moving in a random direction, when I made sure they would stay where they are and that they didn't have current orders. This is very frustrating.

Sheesh, no one is using this thread. There are just a bunch of random threads about people complaining and not offering any suggestions on how to improve things in a clear concise way. Anyway, onward and upward!

8) Child aging seems to be twice that of the parents. Not really a bug, just something I noticed.

I think that's intentional so that you actually get the character to use within a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah that makes sense. Otherwise it would take half the game just to get one offspring. Now if I could just level them up without killing them off...

System issue: Campaign I chapter II crashes every time. Campaign is thus unplayable for me.

System issue: Holding alt to select multiple troops makes cursor lag/jitter in a very strange manner.

System "issue": Alt-tab works for me, maybe a display adapter ram issue on those who experience crashes?

System issue: In addition, the whole game behaves in a same way as a heavy packet-loss game over the internet, random "lagging" in virtually everything, map scrolling, unit movement etc. And this is with a quad core CPU.

UI issue: Seriously, normal cursor keys should be DE FACTO for scrolling and numpad for unit movement, like in civ. I base my argument on the easy facts of the arrows being useless for movement since you don't have the corners anyway and since you have the numpad already, why the double need?

Maybe gameplay issue: Don't know if it's a bug but when you start fresh, your first units in the designed are peasants and a pioneer, yet the pioneer is not trainable in the train menu. However, if you delete the premade pioneer unit and do your own, it appears in the list.

UI issue: Mouse is not locked in the game window in full-screen mode, which is a huge problem on dual-monitor setup. Basically scrolling towards the side where your other monitor is is unusable. For some silly reason even my own engine works right with this yet 95% of even the large games have slipped this past QA.

Apparently there is a function in the options for that. It's called "clip cursor in fullscreen". Hopefully that works for you.

Wow, that's a first :) Sounds like it yeah, going to test it later.

In Combat screen not only camera is focused on my units and don't show opponents, but also NO options by the Esc key. At least list of keyboard shortcuts should be here.

P.S.: alt-tab is working fine for me, I alt-tabbed dozens of times yesterday on v1.0

I noticed a lot of issues with spell balancing, and I barely began most of my games.

Here's 2 examples that I can recall

-  level 1 summon in the summoning branch summons a really tough bear which is superior to the most tier 2 and even most tier 3 summons.

- TA tier 1 spell costs 3 mana for a combat speed bonus of int/10 with infinite range.  A tier 2 costs 10 mana for +1 speed with only 1 range???

No sense reporting Bugs until the Day 0 build is out tomorrow. For all you know your "bug" is "squished" already...

Suggestion:

We need a comparison window when trading/shopping so we can see what our character is wearing vs the new stuff!

Bug:

Spending attribute points when upgrading hero's: I need to click like 10 times before my "spend" registers and heaven help me if I decide I chose the wrong attribute and try to undo my "spend" and spend the point somewhere else. Running windows 7 64-bit. Ah, fixed this by figuring out which part of the cursor, is actually the, uhm, cursor.

Suggestion:

How about a "Report Bug" button somewhere in the options menu?

3) Happend to me once. But later I've managed to sikim through PDF manual while playing.

4) Agreed. Especially in the forst turns of battle when you are aiming with quite a zoom out

9) I do not use edge scrolling. Left mouse dragging is much smoother

Draggst: System issue: In addition, the whole game behaves in a same way as a heavy packet-loss game over the internet, random "lagging" in virtually everything, map scrolling, unit movement etc. And this is with a quad core CPU.

Try turning off AA. It helped me.

New bug: While trying to board the transport with designed horse mounted spearmens and ship already full, the new army lands in the water. Only way to get them back is to move them on the ship again(even if it's full)

I get the crash as well, whenever I attempt to load a game. Have to exit the game, restart it and then load the game. Right now, with all the game crashes, this game is just frustrating to play.

Well. After 1.01:

* Tactical 'missle' camera stills do not work properly. When the attacker is 'behind' the camera it moves in very weird way.

* Some missles are invisible

* When my mounted character is casting fireball the efect of the spell is not rendered.

* After Alt+Tab there are some graphics artifacts at cities

* After several Alt+Tab the DX Error: 'Invalid call' and CTD.

SUGGESTIONS:

* When dying every monster sounds like a dying boar. Spiders to.

* Wild horses dissapearing to fast while zooming out

* In battles it would be usefull to highligt all gris with side colours e.g. enemy grid red and my grid blue. While fighting robbers it's hard to tell from the distance which is mine and which not.

* While designing a unit I think it should get the colour schema from the sovereign or at least there should be a possibility to change a colour of clothes, equipment (maybe with building a Dye Factory?):) It would help with prevous problem and certainly distinguish the forces

 * Sometimes the game doesn't know what window to display first. Attacking, chosing auto resolve then finishing the research and chosing next and in the end it shows the outcome of the battle.

* Add a pointed path line for units that are assigned to move somewhere

Actually it's much smoother now since the patch last night. AA is off and has been. My machine can't do AA in any game except games like Civ4. But before last nights patch, clicking and dragging on the ground had times when the mouse would shake back and forth and the camera would not move correctly. Edge scrolling is still jittery for me though, but I too dont use it that much. I'd prefer having wasd bound to camera movement. Thats how I move in most all strategy games.

A few things I've noticed:

1.  Diplomacy tree is unfinished.  Unlikely Friends, Pariden's Ally, and The Third Race don't seem to do anything.  I haven't gotten up to Dance with Dragons yet, but I'm assuming it's the same.

2.  Teleport Friends sometimes results in mana being spent and stack staying exactly where they are.

3.  Archer unit arrow tracking sometimes tracks arrows coming in from outside the battlefield.

4.  Same Alt-Tab crashing issue as reported.  It's almost every time.

5.  Pause after Sovereign attacks.  My Sovereign can attack twice, but when I try to do so using archery, I have to wait 5-10 seconds before I can make a second attack.

5.  Goodie and Quest huts are often un-attainable.  Mousing over them shows their stats, but walking on them does nothing.

6.  Neither of the Moonstone quest guys are working for me.  Every time I walk onto their building it gives me the same quest dialog, however even when I return with 10+ moonstones in my inventory, they give the same text as the first time and will not allow me to turn anything in.

I'll post anything else I run into along the way.

A couple of suggestions to make the UI smoother:

-A lot of players seem to be missing the little x that lets you cancel an item in queue.  Make it red and I bet very few will miss it.

-There should be a link (is there? did I miss it?) from unit details to unit equipment and spells.

-The empire tree would be more useful with three different colors for the city borders indicating:
  a. I am not doing anything.
  b. I am building an improvement but not a unit.
  c. I am building a unit but not an improvement.

-City titles should be clickable and take you to either the city details or improve city.

suggest: put the option in game to toggle on/off mana use in autobattles, so that my hero won't blow all his mana in auto battles, cause i'd like to let him autobattle, but then i'm ALWAYS out of mana for practical things. forces me to keep the hero in a town away from combat. this wasn't an issue until i trained an ability that can be used in combat. ever since then i always have no mana for other summons, etc.

suggest: i hate how i can't move from one town's build queue to the next town without leaving and reentering the build list. it requires like 8 clicks to build the same building in 2 different towns. SoaSE is much smoother.

bug/suggest: the game is trying too hard to force my cursor into the next available action, before the one i'm working on is finished. i will be trying to build something and all of a sudden my cursor is on some unit elsewhere and i was in the process of dropping a building into a plot. only way to fix is to start over by closing the build menu and reopeneing it. really sloppy ai priority, filled with conflicting actions, breaking the controls.

bug: 3 ctd's so far in 1 game. first was after about 2 hours i got a crash that said out of memory, the other 2 ctd's displayed no error.

bug: buildings rarely plant where i tell them to. likely an issue with the use of zoomed out in cloth map.

suggestion: huts shouldn't require food to construct.

Bug: When my spell casting hero gains a level after a fight ending in a spell, the cursor remains with the movement symbol and the game freezes up.
