Guys, promote the game. Low budget dota knockoffs suck

LoL, HoN, and the rest of the low budget dota knockoffs have such terrible production values that it takes away from the game.

I for one would love to see Demigod 2. Maybe, just maybe, if we promote the game enough, sales will increase to the point where they have to at least consider possibly making a sequel.

What do you guys say? Does anyone know if someones making a game like Demigod with good production values? Or are we doomed to seeing garage shops putting out horrible looking titles built around stat tracking and free to play captastickness?

They need to fix their servers, and make them work as good as in LoL. No one wants to play a game that consistently lags and people get disconnected. It just doesn't sell.

Does this mean you're playing LoL Zen_God?

DG doesn't have servers.

I'm so tired of people saying that DG doesn't have servers. Do you think that your game data magically posts to registers? Do you think the lobbies are stored on each persons computer and that magically we can all connect to everyone's computer while we get a game going?

There are no game servers that run the game and that people connect to, that is correct, but there are servers, and they are queried throughout the game. Please correct people that tell you the game has no servers.

Mike:  Its just been too painful a road for Gas Powered Games to go down again... in fact, I believe there was a quote from the CEO that Demigod was the reason his kids wouldn't be able to go to college.

I'm no going to go into the whole story with you, but lets just say there were some production issues, networking issues, what I believe was a severe underestimation of the balancing and bug fixing that would need to go into a "Multiplayer-Centric" game, etc etc.

The long and the short of it is, we're all left with an extremely addicting game that is hamstrung by a lack of developer support and its own high production values.  The irony is that a game born from a mod of WC3 isn't actually itself very moddable.  Yes, there are mods and some guys have made some fun ones... but the interface is too horrible to be able to play modded versions of this game.

I can't simply make a mod, enable it, and have anyone who joins my game be able to play it... no no no, they have to go to this forum, find my mod, download it, install it, enable it, then rejoin my game... not exactly the best system IMO.  If I actually wanted to create a mod with a new demigod or something, I'd have to buy an EXTREMELY expensive graphic software called Granny 3D... which I wouldn't bother even if I was rich because the modding interface is very poor and no one would bother playing with my new demigods: The assassin Thundercles and general Invader Zim... not sure if piggies or Girs would be his minions.  (sigh)

Anyway, this game wasn't financially successful for a variety of reasons, the publisher is doing other things, the developer is doing other things, so don't hold your breath for the sequel.

The upcoming beta of impulse::reactor may actually solve this problem, if we can get SD's support btw.  In the elemental dev journals, Brad indicated this:

In the modding betas, you will get access to a beta version of Impulse::Reactor that will let you upload and download mods. At first, these mods will be specific to Elemental (maps, units, spells, items, etc.).  But eventually, total conversion mods will be supported too (we just need to come up with a package format for that to give to the Impulse team.
End of quote

In short, I'd think we could potentially get them to use this tech, as its developed, to deploy mods directly.  Who knows, but it is something that adds some possibilities.

Thundercles makes a lot of good points though.  I would certainly buy demigod 2, if it was made.  Will they make it?  I doubt it.  If they made the first 1 again, they'd make A LOT of changes to the process and would have surely seen much more commercial success (though I believe Brad still considers the game a financial success due to sales).  Anyway, its pretty clear now where missteps took place.

If I could change anything, the game would use a client server model (not just for stats), there would be a better support system in place to solve hacks (desyncs, etc), new maps would be created, items that are NEVER purchased would be tweaked, new items would be added from time to time, 2 more demigods would be created, a matchmaking system would be implemented, maps could be edited and created using a gui without a $10,000 piece of software, there would be an auto-balance option in lobbies, a more active banning system for abusers, and probably some other stuff I can't think of at the moment.

sound just like league of legends. Demigod has the better game but league of legends works:( Even a lot of people agree with that, that play league of legends. A working Demigod 2 could become a GIANT :banhammer:

The servers don’t serve the game and have no relationship to performance issues as mentioned above.

well if i play a different game similar to demigod, I never lag or get disconnected. In Demigod every game lags and every 3rd game someone gets disconnected. And even when I play with people that have good connections the game just randomly lags with all players having good pings. -_-

And I played this game lots and lots!

There is obviously something bugged with the code that facilitates the peer to peer connections. When all the connections in the game are fine and all sim speeds are above 0 there shouldn't be as much lag as there is. But then again, are you really surprised? This game crashes at least once a day, it's about as stable as to be expected from a beta, not a fully released game.

sim speed has nothing to do with upload/download speed though.

You can't really argue that the P2P is fine compared to other games. Probably 1 in 3 games lag, and rehosting the game fixes the problem most of the time.

I've played other online games that use P2P instead of servers and they don't lag nearly as much as Demigod. :S

SupCom has never lagged for me, other then other people's Sim Speed, but thats not the games fault. I wish DG was just released to work with GPGnet.

Oh but it does. In fact, if the server query fails because of discontinuity of instances, then you get an invalid state.

Or you know you could actually bother asking around the forums; you never know how many 3-D modelers their is on here and how many actually already have thus software.

Low production values!? LoL updates the game 2x a month, including 2 new characters every month, compared to this stupid game, which has 10 whole classes, and gets updated about once a year, lol not to mention so slow paced and boring.

Why are you still here? Go plat your little lol if tis so amazing (which I have seen it played it and it really isnt)

edit forgot something

I find it so funny how people are so inlove with lol and dota, but they are still on these forums for some magical reason.

He still evaded my main point- LoL and HoN are built on craptastic engines, and look reeeeeaaaaaly bad.

For the love of god, THINK about making a sequel. Consider it a challenge... a chance to make it right from the get go.

The only genre that will be capable of flirting with WoW's success is going to be something dota oriented.

I was on tonight and people were anywhere from 10 to 15 games showing in the custom list. The game is selling.

Pretty sure LoL had an enormous budget compared to Demigod.

To make a Demigod 2 sell they need to not repeat what they did with patching and multiplayer, the fact that it takes them up to/over 2-6 months to fix hugely gamebreaking bugs and imbalances is just atrocious. Also far too many people had trouble with the dodge peer to peer.

Also Mike quite a lot of people don't just play games for super graphics, check out how many purchases Minecraft has, it's made by one man in Java.
