now, i am posting from the sins of a solar empire forum, and around here, its preety dull, but i think there is a reason for that.  quite often I cant see if there are any recent posts or threads that need reading, because the entire "recent posts" page is filled with forum games and political discussions... things, that for the sins forum... i dont care about.

I want to suggust that posts in the offtopic section of the forums are placed on the recent posts area.

 

This way, I (and others) will be able to read and answer the post asking "how do i play diplomacy and entrencment at the same time", instead of that thread being lost and unread because it was pushed off the recent posts list by the tugowar thread.

I really think that being able to actually see the recent posts (they are uasually thrown off the list in about 30 min durring prime offtopic posting time) will really increase the livelyhood of the sins forums, and maybe give sins itself a bit of extra life, as people are like "ooo, i wanna try that"

I notice that the only time the forum games tend to overwhelm normal threads is late night EST when the forums are mostly dead anyway.

I'm in the Pacific time zone, and for the past week I have had 0 booms no matter how late I post.

Maybe we should ban easterners.

Oh, and just to note, I think the real reason for the "off-topic spam" is
that the Off-topic forum will be visible on pretty much all of Stardock's sites.

and thus the posters are from all those sites, meaning there's more of them, whereas those posting on GalCiv threads are only from the GalCiv forum, those on Sins threads from the Sins forum (etc.)...

That's pretty much it. The stated reason for this is to promote communication among Stardock's disparate customers bases which is not all that an unreasonable goal.

But the bottom line is that this has been discussed for at least two years now and it's clear that it's not going to change. At some point you need to stop tiliting at windmills and simply deal with things as they are they best way that you can.

I find that if I don't want to surf through forum games to find something, I go to "home" on the forums, then click into the "soase" subsection. It's like a filter... sort of... Ok, not really, but it's a start. Is this an acceptable workaround for now, though? I don't have a particular problem with the off-topic stuff, so you'll be better judges of that.

if brad refuses to remove offtopic from the recent posts list, can we please make a seperate forum for forum games? (that would not appear on the recent posts list) cause its not really offtopic, its mostly the forum games.

I mean, seriously, does the entire world need to know that tug of war went up/down by 1?

For posting an off-topic like this I would have to say you're banned! However, the last person to post here might change my mind (unless it is a moderator). Maybe a 3 word story would help or I might make a wish. But come on... this is really just a tug of war. I would think about giving you karma pbhead, but I just blame you for the post. Really this calls for a second ban. Frankly I think it's just time we all pick a side. I'll pick ____ you pick ____! Maybe we all just need a laugh or you could tell us what you are listening too to take the edge off.

personally I have no issues with the games (play half of them myself) and often am able to mire through the 4 or 5 that are on one page (yes are a couple of idiots that have to fill the page with them but they are rare and avoidable) to help others with game/mod issues so I personally feel this is a nonissue

Secondly: Why should it matter, in theory, all of those games SHOULD be out of your "My Replies" list.

Thirdly: If it was TRULY stupid spam, the Mods would delete it, but I know of several mods that play a few of the games themselves.... so, in theory, you're calling the mods stupid spammers for playing the games.

Fourthy: You're just as big of a nerd as I, or any other user of the Forum Games, by needing to check up on the Forum Posts for your game, be it SoaSE, Elemental, Demigod, GalCiv, or whatever.

Its really not the forum game itself. Its the shear number of them and the couple people that need to constantly post in all of them.

Now there I will agree with you (glares at Xer07 and Veers). But it's unfortunately a couple of teenage boys that feel the need to get attention and they will do whatever it takes to get that. Which means that they will find another way of getting attention if this is removed. I say better the devil you know than the devil you don't. Also they only do it late evenings (at least for me) and are quickly pushed down by ones who actually have something to talk about.

myfist0: The only one doing any REAL complaining about the situation right now is you, nobody else really cares all that much. :grin:   Furthermore, it's called the F5 button, it refreshes the page, and essentially turns "My Replies" into "My Recent Posts", although I will agree that it's less conveinient, it still works. And the only reason I post so much is because my stupid PC won't run any of the games I've installed on it, (already asked mods and tech support on the Steam, Ubisoft, Massgate, and Stardock Forums, no luck) so I "spam it up" as you say.

Ryat: So, what's your excuse for needing attention? :P  

Anyway, excuse the hell out of me for making friends over the intrawebs and wanting to talk to them as such, that pic above of Veers' spam is just a result of boredom by the lack of activity and such...

I agree oh by the way. Off topic does not need to be linked to recent posts. You can just open the off topic forum and see everything at once, unlike games where there are seven or eight sections to open up and scroll through.
