64-bit Sins of a Solar Empire

I am by no means a programmer, but I've been pondering on a 64 bit version of Sins ever since the game came out. My question is, how much would a large scale game like Sins benefit if it were coded in 64 bit? Could this be a possibility for the sequel?

Quite a lot, in the sense that it could natively address a lot more than 2GB of memory.  Unfortunately, it can be quite a lot of work to get a x64 version out :)

As in, "Sorry, not gonna happen" amount of work.

the sequal might be in 64bit though, it wouldnt be that much more work would it? as its clearly not worth it to remake the game in 64bit

It wouldnt benefit at all - 32 bit apps are limited to 4GB, its 32 bit OS's (windows XP!) that limit apps to 2GB instead of the full 4GB.

If you run an x64 OS, see my thread over here https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/375539 - follow the instructions linked to and you can get your game using all 4GB of ram (which means no more crash to desktop bugs)
