HELP!!!!!

"Sins of a Solar Empire is not installed correctly. Please look for an application update."

I've seen that message box ten different times, just today. I download the "update", restart my computer, and when I launch Impluse AGAIN, I get that same. fucking. error. I've already done a fresh uninstall/reinstall. What more can I do?

I'm using the Vanilla Sins, BTW. I need to verify the app because it was crashing. I can't see what the minidump contains, because all of the debug files are blank, for some reason.

This is REALLY pissing me off! I just want to play the damn game!

If your trying to play diplomacy and it is crashing you need to install and update entrenchment also

Vanilla Sins

Entrenchment

then

diplomacy

I would assume you have to make sure they are updated fully before you start the next.  Maybe the directory is installing to a different folder which is creating your issue.  I wish I could be more help.

I said I was using Vanilla Sins.

Downloading the update shouldn't require a computer restart, something is going screwy. It only wants a restart if it doesn't have access to the files when it tries to update, like if you're running the game or something is blocking it. Try starting Impulse in Admin mode (right click its launch icon). Alternatively, try right clicking Sins and selecting Verify Installation.

I know, that's what I'm doing. I am verifying it. I'll try starting it in Admin mode...

Wait, how would I do that? The user account I'm using is an admin, I can install stuff on my computer.

Impulse itself can be a very tricky program and it is fustrating.  The good thing is your account on impulse registars what you have purchased.  Make sure that the impulse program is updated in addition prior to updating sins.  There might be some information here

http://www.impulsedriven.com/help/default.htm

that can possibly help you pin point what is happening.

The current version of impulse is3.24.489(build 1637)

Also there is an error log top right of the impulse program in the blue circled question mark

Alright, I have a crash dump file now. Stardock is prompting me to restart, I don't feel like doing that right now.

I'd upload it, but I'm not sure if anyone besides Ironclad can do anything with it.

This is probably it:

Code: html
  1. -- [2/13/2010 7:01:31 AM] ---------------------------------------------------- Context: Updating ApplicationList XML: isv Message: Updated network xml did not have expected revision (retrieved 722 / expected 730) Build #: 1637

It's saying that the expected version of Sins is not what it got.

I'm having what's probably the same issue as you.  I install a vanilla copy of sins (from the dvd) and when I try to update, Impulse tells me there's a file size mismatch (MD5 error).  I've reinstalled, and disabled my antivirus/firewall just to be sure - and I got the same error.  I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with my install being at v1.00 ... so ... my question is, "what gives?"

I know how you feel guys, these problems can be really, really frustrating.

Here's my best guess at fixing it.

Sins leaves some files behind in C: > Program Files > Stardock Games after uninstalling.

Uninstall Sins, then go there and delete any left-over Sins files. Then reinstall Sins.

Problem solved - for me at least.

After testing numerous things with the (generous) assistance of Stardock support, and wiping my OS (for good/overkill measure), I decided it was time to start testing outside of my computer.  Lo and behold, the problem was a partially faulty router.  I replaced the router with an old one I had lying around, and the problem instantly went away.

Hope this helps at least one other person.
