Rant about ignorant arrogant players

I've been trying to get into an Entrenchment multiplayer game for a while but keep finding an ignorant and arrogant playerbase. Now I'm not saying that everyone that plays the game is like that but I seem to be having unfortunate luck in that category.

The account I play on doesn't have a lot of games played and most of them were games I joined and then everyone bailed or wanted to "start over" so we all left, then it filled up before I could join again. Or in some cases wanting to get a big game going with some buddies that doesn't finish in one night. Other than that I can't get into a game without the room mocking my ratio and in that sense I have no desire to play against or with those arrogant idiots so I leave that room. Aggrivating is all.

My problem lies with the ignorant players that look at that as what determines your level of skill. I want to play the game and have fun but will easily be throwing it away soon because it's no different than any other multiplayer community on any other game...kids think they're tough shit on the internet beceause they have a better win loss ratio.

I was looking forward to the new expansion but won't be putting any more money into it if there are no respectable players out there. Shame because this is a fun game.

Is there anyone out there that's a respectable non arrogant player? I sure haven't seen them yet.

In a 5v5, you only need 10% of the players to be rude and obnoxious to ruin it for everyone.

Though many players take it too far, most of us use this as a guideline for determining which players should be on which team to get the most even fight possible.  It's no fun for everyone if one team just slaughters the other.

I'm pretty much the opposite of you.  I'm a guy who has a good 15 years of RTS experience under my belt, half of that primarily multiplayer.  I spent a good two weeks studying up here on the forums before going online, and get on a win streak.  Soon enough, people start booting me because my stats are too good and they don't believe that I'm a beginner.  I've got well over a hundred games now and people know me by name, so that's not an issue anymore, but let me tell you that there's just no pleasing some of these people.

There are a lot of us here who play for fun.  It's the teenage kids with lots of time ganging noobs with their buddies for laughs that causee a lot of this stuff.  As to the guys who only play with each other--that's their little world they live in and it makes them proud.

My suggestion is just to ask if someone wants to play a freindly game in chat and offer to start or ask someone to start a server.  I have a couple of times.

My first run in with these guys is five "buds" formed one side of a 5v5 and stacked the other side by inviting players they knew were inexperienced.  Then they raced to see how fast they could crush them--I'm sure it was lots of fun.  one of them changed his player name at the last sec to be one letter different than mine (I guess he thought it was clever).  I just logged off.  I don't think they realize if enough people do that it can really kill growth of the game.

Find people who want to have fun--mainly by asking in chat.  I have to play in spare moments so I never know when I can be on.  Have to play as I can.

Good luck (I'm Tinkerbell in game).

It was only a matter of time before smurfing spread to the forums.

hey man I feel your anger, but unfortunately i feel i am part of the problem.  I'll try to answer my side of the story as best as i can.  In a community that has such few players, the best players in clans want to play with each other, but they rarely can becasue the player base is too small and the teams would be unfair.  This usually involves the better players logging on what are called smurf accounts.  Also some of the better players are obnoxious, but i know that me personally one of the most obnoxious players in the game have a soft spot if you are actually a new player, but i am so tired of people pretending to be a new player that i am really disbelieving when it comes to new players.   I am glad that you are coming into the game, and if you need a better player to protect you, just look for [DT]Star Player in game, and thats me

I get this alot also when I do get one. One night I was just on in the chat room waiting for some DS players. Soon half the Lobby 1 had changed their names to -Ue_'Insert anything here', then went to griefing other players as they were assoiated with me. Its not one person who is complaining. Ive never created a topic due to Ive watch how the online crew responds, Its the same story everytime. Yet nothing has changed in the mind set of the online crowd.

And unforutnaly nothing is going to change. Till the current Online crowd get bored of SINS and moves on; hopefully allowing a better additude crowd to take their place, then maybe we can get a good community going.

Starplayer is right the problem isnt that you are new it is that people no longer think low games means noob they think smurf.

Carbon: the people who are left are the sins community and will be until the game dies im sorry to point this out to you.

I think that most of the regular players are pretty decent people.  Unfortunately there are a couple jerkwads out there who give online multiplayer a bad name.  I suggest that you just ignore it and remind yourself that anyone who gets upset over something that happens in a silly computer game is probably very inexperienced in life and immature.  Just imagine them as being virgins who cannot get dates or as the kinds of impatient people who commit silly traffic infractions.  I just laugh to myself when an ally starts talking shit during a game.  I think it's actually kind of funny when teammates start to get upset if I have a bad game or am too slow to attack or make some bad decisions, etc.  "It's a computer game!  If we lose, it isn't anything to get excited or worked up about!  Take a chill pill!"

I play another game called Onslaught in Unreal Tournament 2004, which is a vehicle based first-person shooter where you try to control certain locations on a map with the goal of destroying a key structure at the enemy's base.  This game has built-in voice comm and one of the people who plays likes to berate the other people on his team.  "You stupid fucking morons!  You let them get Node 8.  You deserve to lose."  This guy just rants and raves when his team starts losing.  All of the regulars are familiar with him and they just laugh and make fun of him.

People need to stop complaining about the community. Its like this in every game so like. If you cant stand this then just quit.

I'm one of the meanest ones out there so watch out.

I say for you to stick through it, and dont change your name, the most important way to gain respect in the online community is to obtain an identity that people will remember and remember previous games with.  I dont know if its just me but when I am judging a player's skill, its more important to me to remember previous games with them than to look at their actual account.  So stick through the jerks, get some games in with the regulars, and in no time people will vouch for you and you will have an identity that differs you from smurfs.

And dont forget. Watch them replays.

Lets be clear, I dont mind some trash talking. I dont mind some stupid people. I can ignore them. What I cant ignore is half the lobby ganging up on one person. People disrespecting others b/c they have little to none games.

There is a rather large line between trash talking/taunting/etc you find in everygame and gross disrespect for someone online. To be honest Ive not seen much of this from names I see here on the fourms. I never get to play with yall anyhow b/c Im not at that lvl.

Which brings me to another point. Why must we noobs 'prove' ourselfs before we can join a game? Why must we find a game that allows us to stay(could take hours) then suck it up to have everyone believe we are new?! Then after we suck it up we get hammered with trash talk( There is a saying, "be nice you were a noob once too") on how we suck and should go back to SP. What kind of Catch-22 is that?!?! I understand since this is a tiny community everyone wants a even game so it fun. That argument has been used one to many times.IMHO. If nice even games is what everyone wants...then why does 99% of ICO consist of smurfs???

Thats the problem right there...b/c of surmfs; newers players are getting rejected and disrespected b/c they are though to be smurfs. And the fact i bet only a handful of online players actually get on the fourms and you know talk( Im not counting random 'can you smell what _______ is cooking type of topics').

And Ravok if this is 100% what you say then its a sad day for anyone who have brave the horror that is ICO. I do not blame the players 100% on this though. I blame the system also. But we all know IC is not gonna change it. So it should be left to us as players to montor ourselfs some way some how, so everyone new, expereienced, pro....can enjoy themselfs on ICO.

In my heart I know none of the current ways will change though, leaving the online community waste deep in is own crap.

So what I gather from this post is that the majority of people posted in this thread have no trust for anyone in this community, whilst the few others have enough decency to recognize the problem and offer solutions. I think I get the trend. My name has been "Gimpy" in game since I bought the game and that's the only player I've had on my account.

I also take it that people have polluted this thread with accusations of what you call "smurfing"? Pretty lame term to say the least, but essentially I'm being accused of being multiple people? Wonderful. I think I've seen enough through the reactions to this thread to realize this game isn't worth my time.

I will admit I met a nice guy yesterday who was offering help and advice to newer eager to learn players...Admiral something, Raynar or something. I started up a game with him, another guy that wanted to learn, a more experienced player and 2 AI. Was having a good time asking questions and being helped but then the game crashed.

Sins online, at least the 5v5 games, can be like an insular community.  I've seen the sort of behavior you mention in another game's pug match community.  What these people don't realize is that today's noob is tomorrow's pro who will help populate ICO and fill games for you to play.  I don't see how the online Sins community benefits in any sort of a way from being impolite, unsportsmanlike, or downright hostile towards noobs.

i agree 100% in fact if im host i like to have a noob or to so that they can start the process of learning players who are jerks to noobs are killing us. We do need more players which is where the noobs come in.

Sins has been out for awhile these people who are left are the community face the facts i hate to be this blunt but its true others may come and go but these people has stood by the game. Diplo might give us a bust for a few mounths but adventully those people will leave and once again it will be the same ~121 players again.

Well all the trashtalk you get from 5v5, is what all players must go through, People who are able to stand this, will often continue to play this game for a long time, Other, will just quit.

So if you think you cant stand this anymore. Seriously. Just quit. theres no point.

and its not like you wont be facing all this after playing this game for months too. The next point is when you get yelled at because you are not playing as good as you should be playing. And this can feel even worse.

Also.... I don't really know how you cant just get a fun game going, because the games I'm always in have noobs, but they don't get kicked (or even trash talked much). Are you sure this happens all the time?

My first few ICo online experience was terrible, and I'm sure it was for everyone. You just have to survive it!!!

The term smurf is used referring to people that are experienced/pro that make a new name attempting to hide their skill/identity.  It is crappy because you never know what you are getting on your team and can lead to unfairly balanced teams and thus a win for the smurf.  So anyone that is unknown with few stats could possibly be some well known player pretending otherwise so they can stack a team in their favor.  It is very unfair to noobs who get accused of being a smurf and blamed for their teams loss because their skill wasn't taken in consideration with teams.  They smurf for their own selfish reasons and most do not seem interested in stopping.  In my opinion it kills the community.  Nothing is done about it except a few gripes on the forum which are promptly ignored.  Sorry you have had a bad experience gimpy.  There are a few polite people out there but there are griefers and jackasses too just like there is everywhere else.

Well it be more if ICO was a tad bit friendlier in general. Which is the point Im making. I know the few who are still here are not going anywhere, but there no reason we cant add numbers to that! IF there not a change of heart within the core thats already here you will be stuck with the same ~121 people.

My first few ICo online experience was terrible, and I'm sure it was for everyone. You just have to survive it!!!

Why should anyone have to SURVIVE it?! Why should MY game time be sucky just b/c thats hows it been?! The Online community wonders why IC doesnt add to the Online aspect of the game. Its simple why spend mony on something that will run off 95% of player just b/c they decided their game time is better spend playing with friend on LAN OR the AI who they dont have to "survive" they metality of those who play on ICO now? Its why I dont play on ICO unless its with DS people, b/c MY time is better spent with people who respect me. Its not that will win, in fact I lose 99% time. BUT I enjoy it b/c of the simple respect given. Theres trash talking and such...again thats not what Im talking about.

Its the simple disrespect for others as human beings. If this was a FPS and every had dedicated servers this problem would be solved. Banning. You cant ban in SINS though b/c of smurfs. Which allows people to get away with murder!

This again comes down to a simple understanding within the online community. Simple respect for all. Accountablility. Seriously, how hard is it to act treat everyone like a person?

Well you see... its because In other games, you play against someone, and you will not likely see them ever again, or by the time you see them again, you wont even remember their name so you just forget about all the trash talking done to you.

But in Sins.... you'll see them the next day.... or the day after..... And just anytime you're on.

is it really only sins that has arrogant players, or almost every online game out there?

Everybody can and should play with and how they like--but do it with people of a like mind.  Meaning don't pretend to be a noob so you can get a noob you can crush to play you [smurfing].

Don't be a hypocrite and want only to play the best players but then let a noob in to even teams then snuff him and spit him out without a thought.  Use a pass protected game good for both of you.

If you are really good and you play someone who isn't--instead making it an attempt to erase him in  new record time, give him a few pointers and a little chat then end the game.

As to the number of games--some of us are pretty good gamers but don't have hours a day to sit in mom and dad's house playing every day and all day because we have families, work and bills to pay.  We'll eventually catch onto  and up to you when we have enough time to learn the cheap tricks.

As for the real jerks--eveybody kill them dead...over and over ;)

Everybody is here to have fun.  Value other people's fun too and you will actually have more.

And yeah, pretty much every game has arrogant players.
