Rant about ignorant arrogant players

Rant about ignorant arrogant players

I've been trying to get into an Entrenchment multiplayer game for a while but keep finding an ignorant and arrogant playerbase. Now I'm not saying that everyone that plays the game is like that but I seem to be having unfortunate luck in that category.

The account I play on doesn't have a lot of games played and most of them were games I joined and then everyone bailed or wanted to "start over" so we all left, then it filled up before I could join again. Or in some cases wanting to get a big game going with some buddies that doesn't finish in one night. Other than that I can't get into a game without the room mocking my ratio and in that sense I have no desire to play against or with those arrogant idiots so I leave that room. Aggrivating is all.

My problem lies with the ignorant players that look at that as what determines your level of skill. I want to play the game and have fun but will easily be throwing it away soon because it's no different than any other multiplayer community on any other game...kids think they're tough shit on the internet beceause they have a better win loss ratio.

I was looking forward to the new expansion but won't be putting any more money into it if there are no respectable players out there. Shame because this is a fun game.

Is there anyone out there that's a respectable non arrogant player? I sure haven't seen them yet.

Just started playing online myself, and so far have found the players to be pretty friendly and helpful. Most of them have explained stuff to me (what they've done/what i did wrong, counters etc) will zero ill will at all. Only see one guy rage so far and it was pretty mild considering the stuff i'v seen in other online games over the last decade. maybe i'v just been lucky? :p

is it really only sins that has arrogant players, or almost every online game out there?
End of manfromspace's quote

It's far worse in Sins.  There's no 'automatch', so you're forced to join random games and hope for the best.  In most RTS', you can just grab 1 or 2 of your friends and have the server assign you opponents based on rank (or 1v1 of course).  People can smurf still, yes, but once your rank increases enough you won't run into new/low level accounts (ie often smurfs) nearly as often.  Not to mention there's less incentive to smurf in the first place, since people who aren't assholes actually WANT to play at their level of skill; not stomp newbs.

From my long experience in online RTS play, custom/non-ladder/unranked whatever you want to call it always ends up being a cesspool of fail.  The behaviour you see in Sins (rampant smurfing, trolling, elitism, etc.) is what all the unranked player communities degenerate into.  You'd think people would be more easygoing there, but the reverse actually ends up being true.  Shunmaha is correct here; if you didn't like what you see, get out now.  I'll play Sins online with friends, but the experience I've had with random ICO players makes me want to kick puppies.  It will never improve.

New people are fine, when they come on, if they listen, I will give them good advice and we get along all good, but when new people start spamming defenses, colbalts aginest LRF and stupid things like that, and dont take on advice from other players, then it is annoying.

This stupid idiot called -A- Panther, played a game of capital ship spamming througout the the 5v5 2 hour game, (he is a known capital ship spammer), I told him to build LRF's but did he listen? he built 11 illums and 4 caps vs 57 dicples and 2 capital ships, by the way panther was being feeded by me, while the other guy wasent, he must have lost 9 caps in total that game.

The point of the sotry is, it dont matter if your new, bad players are a curse to sins, espcially the bad players who dont work as a team to win games, but rely on the other 4 players to do the workd of 5, I hate carrying people, if a person listens to my advice and uses it well, he is a very good learner in my eyes, and is welcome to play in all my games, even if his record suggests he is a noob, but player like panther, aint teamplayers, and ruin the game for me and for all.

Online  = Teamwork, if you dont want to work as a team, play single player or 1v1, but dont please play games and doo nothing, it ruins the fun for us all, cap ship spamming is fun for you, but not for the rest. if players come online to have fun and play unorthdox, then host your own games, dont join regular games.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, AND THOSE AMERCIANS WHO TOOK WHAT WAS RIGHTFULLY OURS, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERCIA, STUPID AMERCIAN INDEPENDENCE :(

^^Joking guys :), love you all

*sigh*  'Bad players are a curse to sins'.  'If a person listens to my advice and uses it well, he is a very good learner'.  Do you even hear how arrogant THAT sounds?  Bad players can become good players and they can become good players even without listening to any of the 'experts' that play MP sins currently.  Christ man.

I will say that new players just need to avoid all PUG games.  The people who play them very often have no patience because they do not want '4 players to do the work of 5' because well..  the world would end.

Now, on the flip side, players have every right to not want to deal with new players.   Games with those people need to be clearly stated that no 'multiplayer noobs' are allowed.  Perhaps that would help things.

I hate to say it, but this game is chock full of assholes on MP.  It has been since day one - I know because I was around on day one.  There are a bazillion threads on this subject if you care to find them.  I have played strategy games for years, but have never run across assholes like I see with this game's MP, neither in quantity nor quality.  This game, for whatever reason, attracted scores of assholes to its multiplayer.  Why that happened is certainly an interesting circumstance to ponder.

The very first game I ever played MP (which was the first day the game released), I noticed that 4 of the players (all on the same team) had [LoS] all at the front of their names.  I was like "what's that all about?" and scratched my head.  A few minutes into the game, when I was still trying to have a look at the map, figure out what units to build, etc. (it was my first day!), I received a coordinated attack from all 4 of these [LoS] assholes all at once, with all their capships to boot, but that wasn't the bad part.  The bad part was watching the reams of text from all 4 of them fly across my screen - stuff like "Fucking newb!  Ha ha!  You fucking suck!  Just fucking quit you fucking loser!  Ha ha ha!" and worse.  At this point I just laughed, shook my head, and I sent a text to my teammates and said "Uhhh... these are a bunch of guys who apparently played in the beta and know what they are doing and who know this particular map, and they are rehearsed in their team play.  I just received a coordinated attack from all of them.  This explains the [LoS] in front of their names.  Expect the same in short order."

The bottom line is that the rest of the players received the same treatment I did.  They all said they wouldn't play online again and quit.  Sure enough I never saw any of them again.  I said I wouldn't play online again either, and I didn't for many months after.  I did, however, take the time to research these [LoS] assholes, and found out it was a clan called "Lords of Sin."  They are now defunct I guess, and apparently didn't last too long in Sins, but they were sure operating the first day the game was out, and several months into it.

The assholery and elitism and arrogance never got any better.  The only thing that changed was that the community shrank and continues to.  One thing you can console yourself with is, I doubt seriously that any of these people have ever had any pussy in their lives, and I doubt seriously that any of them ever will, so really the only way they can ever "screw" anyone is to be the biggest dick possible in an online game.  Meanwhile, one of my red hot girlfriends just left this morning, and I have a date with a different one tonight, and a date with yet another on saturday.  I get a break on sunday (and I will need it), but I'm booked up with a fourth on Monday (my "primary" - it's her day off).  You see, this game is what I do when I'm not banging red hot chicks.  It's what I do in my "off time."  It's not what I do because I don't have any and can't get any.  Console yourself with this fact.

I really think these claims about the game being chock-full of assholes are inaccurate and overblown.  Yes, there are a couple asses out there, but there are also many good-natured, polite adult players, too, and I think the good Sins citizens outnumber the asshats by a large multiple.  Many experienced players welcome new players and offer them advice and encouragement.

Why that happened is certainly an interesting circumstance to ponder.

Again, this is what happens in any unranked RTS play.  Without a ranking and reputation to uphold, people will just troll and smurf until they succeed in driving out all the players who wanted to play a normal game.  Since there's no rankings to maintain, there's nothing stopping people from making a new account once they become known assholes.  Normally there's a ladder system so the serious players can ignore these clowns, but there is no escape on ICO.  And since the legitimate players quickly leave, and never return, all the remains is the assholes.

As to why this happened so quickly with Sins, blame the poor early balance.  The LRF spam was absolute king for a LONG time, and still is a lesser degree.  When any RTS turns into one unit spam, people tend to stop taking it seriously pretty quickly.  This is probably why ICO degenerated into 5v5 (name me another RTS where anything past 2v2 is taken seriously) as the game mode of choice, as smaller games are quickly decided if one player is using a cheese build and another is not.

You don't see the game from the eyes of a new player though.  You know exactly what you're doing, who's an asshole, who's a good player, etc.  In other words, you know how to avoid the pitfalls a new player will fall into.  My friend and I tried about a dozen games on ICO a while ago, and the asshole to reasonable player ratio was about 1:1.  To a new player, that's more than enough to convince you that online is a waste of time and to never return.  It may not be ALL assholes, no.  But enough to ensure the community will never grow.

I actually find the asshole to reasonable player ratio to be worse than 1:1.  The people on my personal "ban list" far exceed the people who aren't, so it's far more difficult for me to get games than the average guy (and it's tough for the average guy!).

I always thought the 5v5 was bizzare too.  It was obvious to me after just playing a few of these things that the odds of somebody having a crash, a desynch, or saying "sorry, dinner!" and just quitting the game and ruining it for everyone - the odds of this type thing go up the more players you have in the game.  Its a no-brainer.  But it's all anyone will play, even with the odds of mishaps being nearly 100%, and even if it takes all day long to fill a game up to 10 players.  God forbid you try to play a 3v3 or 4v4 - people will demand to open slots or make the game bigger.  I never quite "got it," but I guess your theory as to why (cheese spam builds) is as good as any.

I always stick to this motion, if you dont like something, do something else.

I am quite a nice guy mostly online, but ranting about arrogant players on the forums is not needed. if you dont like the players on the game, find new players to play with. if you still dont like the game online, play single player or with friends. if you still hate it, unistall and try to return it back to the shop.

I had tons of abuse when I started off in sins, I stuck with it, and I got better. If you stick with it, you will become better, and beleive me, you will get cocky once you start playing, and 90% oof new players who become good will become arrogant.

Most of you will deny it, but I seen many people who moan about arrogant players, and once they get good, they turn even more arrogant.

one of the reasons why the gaming community on this game is so small is becuase most of the active players are  jerks

ive been with sins since the day it was released, and from day 1,  people were scaring new guys away
with foul language and games where only "good" players are allowed

i stopped playing with the online community,  there's simply not enough people that are serious about having a fun game....
however,  2 of my best online buddies i met on ICO,

most of the people online are plain Asses,    but if your lucky u can stil find some fun people to play with (most of thme already have a little club themselves),   and if u do play friends-only games with them
