Is there going to be a large expansion to add to sins?? Where to from here?

I am liking the BETA2 so far but want to be sure their is more coming

The BETA2 of sins diplomacy is nice so far and going a long way to making the game a better experience.

But I want to know their is a major expansion coming.... specifically I want to know what could be so powerfull as to be chasing the Vasari?

Or is sins of a solar empire successfull enough to justify a sins2?

End of quote

I believe it has been very profitable for both IC and SD, resulting in IC expanding its staff and business. I would imagine IC need to sell SD on the idea and development plans for Sins2 and I would be suprised if some of those discussions haven't already happened but the likely hood of getting a straight answer before Diplomacy is out of the way seems small for obvious reasons.

Sins has been a great success for IC, I doubt they would drop the franchise. From the past devs communications, the 'micro' expansions were not costing micro-resources to make, therefore Diplomacy should be the last.

From that, I think one of 2 options are possible:

They will try their luck on a brand-new franchise, and I would be very curious on what could possibly come out, given the quality of Sins; The devs can be a bit tired of the same theme and may want a breath of fresh air, and it will be even better if it is at least as successful as Sins.

They will gear up on a Sins2 design, probably with a brand-new engine which gets rid of many of the (expansion development, modding) limitations of the current one, to make room for a great reimagining of the gameplay, with future expansions in mind from day 1. Which I would like to see too.

[edit]

Yeah, i would like to hear from an official mouth which way IC is going in the future...

Well, there are three possibilities:

  • Sins 2
  • Full-sized Sins 1 expansion pack
  • An entirely new title

Safe money is on Sins 2.  I think a full-sized expansion is unlikely, but has yet to be definitively ruled out.  A completely new franchise is quite likely.  Even for new companies, it makes sense to stagger franchises and let an older title age before releasing a new iteration.

I'm sure we'll hear shortly after Diplomacy wraps up what they have in store for us.  Certainly if there's going to be another expansion that will be known soon.

Ironclad did say they're working on a new project, but mum as to what it actually is :( So still speculation!

I think it might had been said they have so many ideas that its too big for an expansion or micro patch and sins2 is probably whats next.  I cannot quote.... sorry

I may be wrong, but I think I heard that Stardock may be making a full expansion, containing a campaign/story mode as well as new factions. I'm hoping its true, would be awesome.

That is rumour and speculation.  They have made no such comment (and it's Ironclad that develops Sins; Stardock publishes)

I don't mind, any expansion/follow up would be great!

As far as I know neither Ironclad nor Stardock have announced what they plan to do with Sins after Diplomacy is released.  It's probably better that way.  I don't see how either of them could benefit right now by announcing plans that may not be firm.  We'll probably hear more a few months after Diplomacy's release when after they've decided what they want to do next and committed themselves to it.

Honestly, I'd be much more interested in a Sins 2 than an expansion pack. Actually, I wouldn't be interested in a expansion pack, at all. That is, unless some serious patching is done to core game flaws. No, I'm not talking about LRF imbalance or anything like that though those problems are also very real. My real issues are with the poor AI, alliance/diplomacy facets and metagame problems.

I hope IC will have recognized some of the serious blunders that continue to plague Sins and get these things right for Sins2. To me, Sins is like this brilliant RTS that does a huge number of things right but fails on a few key issues. Such a shame.

Either way, Supreme Commander 2 is out in March and Sins is in deep trouble then. Hopefully.
