Transparency Problem.....Fixed!

Transparency Problem.....Fixed!

Update

O.K. I've tried suggestions from another thread (can't find it just now)....i.e. running Windows Experience Score to "activate" the transparency in WB.

My problem is demonstrated in the two screen shots below with the red arrows demonstrating the unaltered way the skin should look, and the corresponding parts of the skin as it looks after application. The skins are unaltered, in their "base state".

In the first shot, note the Start Button. The skin is "Naked" by vStyler. The variable is not the Skinner, but rather the transparency: This happens with other skins. The skin appears as it should in WB7 (latest build) but not whaen applied.

In the second screen shot, an additional problem is shown: there is a black rectangle hiding behind the Start Menu running from the right border of the left side panel to the separator line at the bottom of that panel pointed to by the green arrows.

The third problem is shown at the left margin of the task bar: The wall paper does not extend to the bottom of the screen behind the task bar. When I hide the task bar though, the wall paper descends to the bottom of the screen and when I unhide the task bar, the wall is pushed back again, stopping at the top edge of the task bar (but behind the Impulse Dock).

I'd appreciate any help! My thanks to anyone who tries....

I doubt its WB fault.

I do too. Drivers updated (see OP).

Upgrading to W7 so, it might disappear when I do that. At least that's what all the hoopla (sp.?) touts.

Sure wish Neil had come up with the magic bullet.

Also wish yrag had made an appearance, but he might yet. Trying to keep the thread alive so he can take a look.

My thanx to everyone who's tried to help!

7 will probably fix it , especially if u haven't formatted in a while. If it doesn't... its likely your card\hardware.

Good luck. :sun:

Doc, have you tried downloading the latest drivers from your laptop makers website?

I'm assuming it's a laptop since it's running a m video card.

The drivers from Nvidia are referance drivers and could be incompatible with your laptop.

Also, make sure to uninstall the video drivers prior to installing new ones. Installing over old drivers cause nothing but problems.

I think CG1's hit on an important point....with laptops, the video drivers available thru ATi or NVidia are rarely the best way to go.

The laptop manufacturer likely has a highly specialized driver set for that video card and even if it's a year or 2 old, it's the best driver for the laptop.

Thanx, Cars. Tried it, but no joy. Did a full malwarebytes scan, too.

found some crap and cleaned it out. Next? Heading over HiJackThis, I think.

Thanx for the tip, Lantec...I was following Cars' advice anyway.

Update:

Well, updated Theme Manager and WB7 yesterday evening, and guess what disappeared?

Those transparency issues and "white areas" all gone, and can apply stuff to skins again.

This happened to me once in the past...if anyone remembers when vStyler received reports about his

skins breaking.

Ahhh.....blithely shussing the slopes of Beta.....

Thanx all for your efforts to help, and thanx for the last update, Neil...turned the trick nicely!

I have never doubted for a second that this was a WB (eh, beta is beta) problem.
