Transparency Problem.....Fixed!

Update

O.K. I've tried suggestions from another thread (can't find it just now)....i.e. running Windows Experience Score to "activate" the transparency in WB.

My problem is demonstrated in the two screen shots below with the red arrows demonstrating the unaltered way the skin should look, and the corresponding parts of the skin as it looks after application. The skins are unaltered, in their "base state".

In the first shot, note the Start Button. The skin is "Naked" by vStyler. The variable is not the Skinner, but rather the transparency: This happens with other skins. The skin appears as it should in WB7 (latest build) but not whaen applied.

In the second screen shot, an additional problem is shown: there is a black rectangle hiding behind the Start Menu running from the right border of the left side panel to the separator line at the bottom of that panel pointed to by the green arrows.

The third problem is shown at the left margin of the task bar: The wall paper does not extend to the bottom of the screen behind the task bar. When I hide the task bar though, the wall paper descends to the bottom of the screen and when I unhide the task bar, the wall is pushed back again, stopping at the top edge of the task bar (but behind the Impulse Dock).

I'd appreciate any help! My thanks to anyone who tries....

restarting the pc gets rid of the black triangle.

turn off blur and trans in wbcfg > reapply ... see what happens.

John...I did that. Naught. When I stated "base state" I meant "freshly installed, no mods".

Kitty, I wish it did, but it doesn't. Restarting has no effect.

ur not getting trans anywhere or dropshadows.. looks like per pixel frames arent being used either..

Experience score usually fixes that everytime.. unless u have turned them off inadvertently in WB config.

Experience Score from day 1 has been 3.1, and that's unchanged....so how would I know if it were failing?

Have you checked transparency settings in WB7, and made sure that all the trackbar settings are identical?  I'm just guessing this since the start menu looks much more saturated than the taskbar, and we now have the ability in WB7 to adjust each of those settings individually.

Edited to say:  Nevermind...I see that was the same suggestion John gave you and you said you didn't make any mods...however the trackbar might have gotten jarred from a different skin, or just been moved by gremlins or something...click reset all in the transparency tab and see what happens.

I am convinced that this is a problem with the latest WB7 build (220x86). Several people have reported this issue. I don't believe that it's anything that Doc has done (changed trans settings, checked the box for non per-pixel etc.)

It might be interesting to know if all the people who experience this have the same graphics card....just trying to find a common thread.

I have experienced failing video cards and it's much more dramatic than that...

Agree with Neil - reset the Windows display options to default Vista Aero. WB might be masking a problem that you have with the Windows UI settings. This has happened to me

When I tried (through WB) I got the "Classic". Tried through MyColors, borked also. Both have been recently reinstalled. All state they are installed correctly.

Perhaps you should 86 Mycolors, they have never played nice together on my system.. and reinstall WB fresh :-|

I think that might be part of the problem, John. Neil, I'm not criticizing the software it's just that MyColors caused me problems before.

1. Classic.

2. Then uninstalled My Colors and had to reinstall WB, as it stated WBserv.dll could not be found.

3. Rebooted and Aero appeared.

4. Tried to apply Krome, but same problem of the skin "lifting" the wallpaper is still there.

Grrrrr..... X-(

Wish someone could help!

Thanks to all who have, and hope they aren't giving up.

The only reason I say it could be a failing video card is because I experienced something similar when my video card started failing a few years ago.  First I lost shadows on my WB... they were replaced with black boxes, then my taskbar became just a black box, then the start button and titlebar buttons disappeared, then I lost transperency everywhere, then I just lost graphics all thogether... over a period of about 2 days...

Well, this has been going on more than two days.....

I think it's a software problem, and not necessarily Stardock's.

Did this just happen the instant you installed the latest WB 7 beta, or did that build work ok for a while?

I think it's been going on longer, Neil. I'm not sure. Wish there was an app to tell me what's wrong.

darn.....wish I could help... but I read the thread title and thought this was about the Obama Administration.... ;p

sounds a bit like something CCleaner did to me a year or 2 ago.......seems it cleaned some stuff it shouldn't.....try rolling back to a setup prior to the issue....

Applying the same skin twice in a row clears up some transparency issues for me, might see what that does.  Completely different graphics card and Windows though.

I ran into this a couple times awhile back with WB6 on Vista. I have no idea what caused it to happen but it wasn't always the same solution. Sometimes I would have to reboot before it would fix itself. Other times though if I went to Personalize>Display Settings somehow the Colors box would have gotten set to Medium(16bit) and not High(32bit) and when I changed it back to High it would fix the problem.

Video card's still working.

have you updated your vid drivers recently? if not, do so.. also.. if you have.. the experience score will need to be re-run for DWM to work correctly with WB and give u back your trans.

Worst case.. go get a new vid card.. try replacing it. running the score, it may fix it.. if not, keep your reciept.

Also.. when was the last time you formatted? Windows can get corruped and a good repair is sometimes in order.

Ive yet to see a case of this that wasnt a locally related bug. I doubt its WB fault.
