Elemental and Middle-Earth

One of my favorite influences to draw on when I'm playing an RPG is Lord of the Rings. I know you"ll be able to change the units in Elemental, what i want to know is will that customization also be able to be appied to like you kingdom? Meaning your banner, colors, name of kingdom. I would love to be able to make the kingdom of Gondor, with most of their troops wearing armor or carrying a shield that has the white oak of Gondor, or be able to create orc simlar to the ones in LOTR. So what im trying to get at is will we be able to pull ideas from influences like LOTR and apply them to Elemental?

Ozu, I have no doubt (WHAT-SO-EVER) that a TOTAL LOTR mod will be made, probably BEFORE release..lol, of this game.  No worries.  And, apparently, the mod tools will be easy to use (To a point of course depending on how deep one delves).

Yup, LoTR will probably be 1 of the first mods for elemental.

Same here. Though if your intrested there a really nice Lord of the rings mod for Medival total war 2. Which is both very pretty and quiet entertaining. Google "The Third age mod" and you should find it. Highly recommended!

Yeah, the only "problematic part" will be creating new models for the creatures. I think you gotta be an experienced 3d modeller + you need to have the appropriate software in order to be able to create "decent" models.

I think frogboy mentioned somewhere else that you'd need a pretty basic 3d modeling system, Maya rather than Ganny. I'm not a 3d modeler myself but some friends of mine do a bit of it(mostly for mods) and they recommend this program.

Its free to download and works with (I haven't tried it myself) a wide range of engines. Including source and gamebryo. Hopefully it will be supported by the Elemental engine.

I have a feeling that this most "problematic part" hopefully will not be too problemeatic, unlike Demigod.  I also hear there will be a wide range of ingame editors for such mods, see here, so maybe there will be an ingame "race editor".

Anyway I'm hoping for the best (as always).

Just remember that your channeler has the equivalent power of a Valar (translates literally to Power or Powerful), which are the "Gods" of Middle Earth.  So, even if you're playing as orcs from the 3rd age and your channeler is Sauron (which would be interesting to have a channeler who doesn't move around (stuck at Barad Dur) and whose spells are more powerful the closer they are cast to Mordor) you are still only role-playing one of the Maiar, who basically are just servants to the Valar.  Sauron was just the servant of Morgoth, the great enemy of the 1st age.  So in order to accurately create the kingdom of Gondor you would have to remove your channeler's powers and make them a mere king.

That being said I'm sure you can edit heraldry quite easily, if all you are interested in is your troops looking like LoTR troops, but not neccesarily having your kingdom act like them.

I hope that either the mod that is made focuses on the first age, or that there are 2 mods if enough people are interested in having a third age (LoTR times) mod.

Sorry, I'm a Tolkien geek, and a stickler for details.

I'm sure this can be mitigated by making the king of gondor a powerful general able to command a larger number of elite troops while Sauron is an immobile channeler who's limited to destructive magic. Elves can be balanced this way as well by simply restricting their magic to a few specific spells.
