What Browsers to Use?

Mozilla
FireFox
Opera
Avant
Maxthon
Explore

I have been using Mozilla for a long time and have recently started to use Avant.
I have found Mozilla and Opera are unable to work with some web sites. For example Opera will not let me log onto the Joe user web site.
I don't like the fact that Avant is based on Internet Explorer.. But it has the most options..

What’s your input on this?

I prefer Firefox.

Unfortunatly it won't work with joeuser. ( some of the java script )

Stardock has fixed the wincustomize 2k5 site to work with it, so hopefully joeuser will be updated soon also...

I mainly use IE. However I do like Firefox a lot.

TasT--I haven't ever had any problems using Firefox and JU. What kinds of problems does it have?

I've been using Avant - you can see my initial impression on it over at Link

Still using it - it's fairly nifty.

Opera is my favorite. And I have no problem logging on here with it. Very rarely do I come across pages that Opera cannot handle anymore. Plus, it uses less memory than any of the other browsers.

Try Quote, bold, underline, etc.......

Yeah, the javascript-based editor doesn't seem to actually DO anything when you click on the little buttons. It pops up the little windows when appropriate but it never inserts the codes into your message. Of course I just type HTML directly into my text, so I never notice it either.

I like FireFox, with a few extra pieces from MozDev to make it even more kick-ass:
Adblock (filters pop-ups and pointless ad images)
Mouse Gestures (lets you navigate by twitching the mouse around in specific patterns; for example, mouse up-then-right to switch to the next tab. try it, it's neat!)
User Agent Switcher (lets you change what your browser reports itself as to web sites, so if you go to some bank site that requires IE6.0 even though FireFox can handle it, just tell FireFox to say it's IE6.)

Like citahellion, I usually just type the code as I go, so I missed that aspect.

I've been using Avant for about a year. Love the tabs, ease of moving from one to another. Pop-up blocking and ad blocking work great. Security issues - well that's why I have up-to-date firewall and virus protection.

I've played with Firefox but I find it's too much work just to get it up to what AB has out of the starting gate. I only use IE for windows updates.

~ I had been using Firefox for quite a while but recently decided to try Maxthon - the new MyIE2. So far I haven't had any problems anywhere with it and a lot of the features from Firefox already exist without having to download extensions.

~ I'm anxiously waiting to see the browser Stardock is planning. I haven't seen any info on it anywhere so I have no idea what their progress is on it. Anyone read anything about it?

~ I've never tried AB but am willing to give it a try.

....off I go to download

I have tried nearly all the browsers you have mentioned.
Avant Browser was the best, until it kept updating every few days.
No problem with its updates, except that it kept crashing more often with each update.
Each time I try switching from one tab to another, all tabs shutdown.

Still, it is the best, compared to even Firefox, which is hyped.

Nomad529, I think you're referring to Blog Navigator. It's available for download from download.com. (v 0.9)

Actually citahellion, Stardock has announced that they are working on a web browser that will be based of IE, have tabbed browsing and I'm not sure what else. But it most certainly is something other than Blog Navigator (which is actually version 1.0 if you get it from the official site and much better than version 0.9 they have on download.com). It will apparently be part of Object Desktop, so as soon as it shows up in beta form I will be checking it out.

Slimbrowser for me, even though its IE based. I have firefox, but dont use it alot. I'm still trying it, but will only use it if I can find a few more plugins for it. :)

Been using Firefox for some time now and am very happy with it. It went to 1.0 Final today!!! Should be more stable than ever.

I used to use plain IE but I grew to like the new tabbed interfaces some new browsers came with, so when I came across MyIE2 (which is now known as Maxthon) I stuck with it. Also used iRider for a while but it got to be kind of annoying and limited.
If you're interested, you can find Maxthon at Link.

Firfox out of the box. No extensions, no frills. Just a quick change of security settings and a theme or two.

The only problems I have with JU are the ability to reply to blog entries in the forums. For some reason the reply field is missing. It's easy enough to open the entry under the actual blog site if I want to reply, so this is an easy workaround.

The BEST thing about Firefox is the lack of pop ups and tabbed browsing. I hate IE's pop-ups. In fact, I forget about pop-ups on the web until I browse to some IE only site (Microsoft.com, bastards) and then I'm flooded. People that don't use tabbed browsing are living in the stone ages for all I care...

I have tried out Maxthon, love the tabbed browsing. The biggest thing keeping me from using it regularly is the fact that Stardock now has WB skinning my explorer buttons. Using the newer skins that include explorer buttons is sweet, and I just can't make myself pass it up.

Opera, what else? (7.6pre4 at the moment)

Works fine on Joe User for me, what problems did you actually have?

*cough*

Just an observation. You're responding to a thread which hasn't seen a post in over two months. That's rather akin to asking John's wife "how is John doing?", when John was buried two months ago.

Alright, perhaps that's a bit strong.

Firefox rocks every thing ........

I used to use Opera, but there were just too many sites that wouldn't work correctly. I also couldn't stand the banner ads anymore, and I'm not paying $40 for a browser. I tried firefox and have been using it ever since.

Recently started using Maxthon....so far I'm liking it....though I'm not totalling thrilled with how slow the favorites menu opens up.
