Military, Economic, Research, Or Defensive Buildup?

So, what do you think is the best investment of your resources? Of course each race has its strengths and weaknesses in each of these, but how do you exploit them?

I personally play the TEC or the Advent; I suck as the Vasari.

As the TEC, I love building a frieght train economy. Building a few small mobile defense fleets and constructing/researching economic things is what I spend on at the start. Usually before I have fleet Logistics 3 I'll have 3-5 colonies and will be getting over 50 creds/sec. With this income I research the expensive techs and take my fleet to the max. I build up a few defenses, then I start on researching/building the bigger fleet logistics. I always try to build as many trade ports as possible while throwing in a refinery or two (Creds are the ultimate resource: you can trade them for the others). Against the AI, as long as you can protect yourself in the beginning, you'll roll right over them. Against humans, this strategy works well against slower or more research oriented players. A good rush player will cut you down before you can get started, but if you ever can beat them back you'll easily crush them. Against someone who uses the same strategy, prepare for a long, weary, battle after massive battle. In these games, one colony can make the difference.

I would tell you about how I do the advent but I'm not very good with them.

Since the advent are really military-minded (and because the first ship you can build, the disciple vessel, is really weak), if you want to do harmony (civilian) research, you almost have to start out with the hostility (civilian) research and getting the powerful illums.

They have virtually no economy, the last game I played, I had about 10 worlds, and I had a trade port at every one of them, but I was only generating about 30cr per second!

They do well attacking and defending planets, and their fighters/bombers can be deadly when spammed.

I try to get illums as soon as possible as they are great when spammed as well, and can be a great counter to a rush player (Or vice-versa)

Their purge vessels are way too expensive to be used (750cr per ship!).

Advent ships are mostly mutually supportive, so it is ideal to have a good mix of ships (example, Disciple uses Steal Antimatter, then Transfer Antimatter to a support cruiser or a cap ship, then that ship has more antimatter to use abilities).

Planet bombing frigs are generally not worth it at all, since their combat potential is next to worthless (except for strike craft/ship bait) and they take 14 fleet supply points... EACH. In contrast, a heavy cruiser takes 10 fleet points, 12 if you're Vasari.

Unless, of course, you're trying to get your "Fear of Icebergs" achievement... then those frigs are required.

Ideally, you want to be #1 in military ranking compared to other players, particularly Fleet size. However, you don't want to overexpand and collapse your economy in order to get a higher fleet cap.

while there are pros and cons for each race, it seems that the Advent have a big disadvantage economically. They just dont make enough credits to make most (or at least some) of their ships and research options worth getting.

It just seems that they struggle to make even a decent credit income,30-40cr per sec, while the TEC and Vasari are making 70-90cr per sec!

Allure of the Unity (Tier 8 tech) raises their overall tax income by 10%.

From what i recall, the advent's main economic advantage is their massive culture bonuses. As a result, they lose less of their potential income, making up for their weakness in other areas. Of course, I haven't really played them, so I can't say. I usually stick to the TEC.

Ostensibly the economic weakness of the Advent is counteracted by their superior culture technology, which means that what income they do receive is less vulnerable to waste, and their generally less expensive ships. While the Disciple is certainly tiny, it's actually quite effective from a unit cost and support perspective.
