What's up with 2v2?

SINS not built for 2v2 cooperative in mind?

Me and my buddy bought Sins, played vs the computers to learn the ropes, and loved it!

We anxiously and excitedly tried our hand at 2v2.  We generally enjoy the 2v2 type games for cooperative play, however, sins doesn't seem to be built for that kind of gameplay in mind.

it seems like one guy always gets double teamed, and the maps are so big, and fleets move around so slow, that you can't react fast enough to help your ally.  It takes like 15 minutes to jump across the galaxy to his base if he suddenly needs your help.

Are we playing from the wrong perspective? We try to be aggressive early, but the game either ends up as two 1v1s, or a 2v1, with the other player too far away to do anything.

Comments are greatly appreciated, thanks!

Probably has a LOT to do with the map you chose.  Mind you, you complain about the game being two 1v1's or a 2v1....what were you expecting, if not one or the other?  Anyhow, I highly recommend using some of the small 1star 2v2 maps supplied with the game, and not multistar maps.  Find a small map where you can reinforce your ally quickly.

Scouting of the enemy fleet movements should give you some you some warning of when a 2v1 is coming.  2v1 is a logical fight to outmaneuver your opponents in a 2v2.

If you both just made the jump from computer to multiplayer, there is a learning curve too.

I've not tried this so I'm just giving you an idea.  How about starting up a game with unlocked teams and each on different teams.  Keep restarting until you and your friend are next to each other then ally straight away?  You would probably need to do more than 2 AIs to make it a challenge as they will have a bit of in fighting aswell but it's a way to get the game experience you are after.  In multiplayer you can do the same thing if you aren't using predefined maps but obviously you should let the other 2 players know what you are doing ;P

With predefined maps it's a bit easier to do a proper 2v2.

one of the focal points of a team game is resource sharing. If your buddy got attacked and you're sitting over in relative peace and prosperity, then give him some extra resources so he can build more ships! Once he's overpowered the attacker and moves on the offensive, he can give you his extra, etc.
