I was stunned to read the blog in the link ( http://blogs.zdnet.com/emergingtech/?p=1009 ).

This new development, robots with biological brains (Cyborgs, sorry 2 of 3), is a potentially wonderful research tool: Alzheimer's Disease, for instance.

I also see a  potential "Dark Side" to this. What are the ethics here? How does the community feel about this one? I'm intrigued by the proposition and would really like to learn all y'all's thoughts about this one and the future of computing.

Hey! Just a trivial thought: What if your CPU doesn't like your choice of desk tops or themes? What would customized GUI's look like "from the inside out"?

I think it would give a whole new twist to a "dialogue" with your computer!

Thoughts, team?

Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave, I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?
HAL: I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.

HAL: Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?

Advances in science and technology have always presented society with moral and ethical issues.

You can not deny that mediacal breakthoughs alone make this an interesting proposition. Unfortunatetly those alone are not enough to make me want to envision a future without the human factor.

In theory technology and advances in science makes our lives better and more production. Theory works well in control environment, it's in the real work where they lack that special connection to mankind. Someone or something needs to be able to decide on the correct balance, I don't want a computer doing it.

Well that's my thoughts on the subject. I realize I can be totally wrong, and I like it that way.  ;)

Jafo, this time don't forget your helmet. I hear vacuums can be internalized. ;)

Philly0381, I actually agree with you. People shouldn't lose their humanity under any circumstance.

I think it's too late for Jafo. He had that thirty year old dialog too perfect. Hummm, maybe humans with cybernetic brains are already here.

So say we all!

I had hoped this would generate more interest...it's not everyday a robot is made using actual neural tissue!

Oh well.... ;p
