I am looking to buy windowblinds and object dock but have a few questions.

Concerning some programs like 3d max and maya

i used them a long while ago (trial versions) and loved what they set out to do, but ran into some problems.

1: i am an avid user of maya and 3d max, and found, with either one, there were graphical glitches all over the screen inside the apps.

2: i also found that when using media player classic, the screen would go black when maximized. however this is a bit of a non-problem as i am not using it anymore (using VLC and adding any codec i need as i go)

basically i will purchase without hesitation if there is a way for maya and max (i am now using 2008 version of both maya and max) to work flawlessly with WB and OD loaded.

i don't know if there's or fix, or simply with updated versions (of the 3d apps or OD/WB) it has gone, but if people in the know could fill me in i would be so grateful.

im crossing my fingers :D

thanks a lot

Idris

You could always exclude those applications from being skinned.

In WindowBlinds config you can set an app not to be skinned, just the skins classic colors will be used, this generally takes care of any graphical glitches.

what about object dock, i hear it causes the same errors as windowblinds does for those programs. in fact i think i remember using them both with ONLY object dock on and the same graphical errors were still apparent.

if this is incorrect i will be VERY happy and will get straight to buying them both :)

im on xp pro by the way

I'm a avid user of Cinema 4D, and i have no problems with Windowblinds, i don't even exclude it, and with Ojectdock, i just turn it off, as well as any other non important app that i don't need running. "I need More power scotty"!!

yeah i have a good top spec system, so i don't mind having object dock on all the time unless i'm rendering something big,

however i would like as little errors as possible.

so if anyone can confirm on the issue of OD and graphical glitches in max and maya i would appreciate it.

definitely getting window blinds now i know i can exclude programs. but i really want object dock with all the features it has. if OD can work well with the system i will be very happy.

try the ObjectDock free 1st - it's not a trial = just only has one zooming dock

Can't say enought good thing about WindowBlinds, couldn't imagine running a PC with out it.  ;)

If you do try ObjectDock, you will fall in love with and more than likey upgrade to Plus, yes it makes that much difference.  :SURPRISED:

This seems to be necessary for AutoDesk products. Specifically errors in painting the menus. Menu Items will only show after a mouse over. I've never been able to come up with a work around. I've had to exclude AutoCAD since version 2006 and Maya as well. I don't know about 3DMax but exclusion should fix the problem since there does not seem to be a lot of people posting about it.

Winstep is great, but has nothing comparable to Windowblinds. I believe the video bug was fixed in Objectdock a few versions ago.

Given the description of the issues, it sounds like it is an opengl driver issue.  In particular they incorrectly clip the opengl output based on per pixel windows on screen even if they are UNDER the open gl window.

I believe this is specific to nvidia drivers on XP only.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this as its not a bug in our software.  The same thing can be reproduced with winamp or any other application which uses per pixel transparency.

Regarding the issue with the media app, this is due to a bug in their overlay support code.  A number of applications made a very bad decision in how to decide what the overlay colour should be and this is incompatible with per pixel transparency in some circumstances.  WindowBlinds will detect these buggy apps and fix the issue for them, so if you are running WB 5.01 or higher all should be fine.  I believe ObjectDock will not fix this issue on its own.

OKAY COOL THANKS A LOT NEIL

well after using max with object dock all seems to be fine.

so that's made me very happy, i shall buy both and if window blinds has trouble with max and maya i shall exclude them and be a VERY happy customer.

will go for the one including the wincustomize subscription so i can go download crazy :D

going to be great :)

one off-topic question:

i know this isn't the right topic but i wont create a new one but are there any cool dock icon packs that include TONS of software, like max and maya and adobe creative and others? i see lots of pack but not any that include a whole array of software

Your best bet of "odd" Icon packs is the ObjectDock icon library and converting the PNGs to icons or the Misc Icon library.  If you don't see one you need you can request it in the "Rare Icon Request Thread"

Idrisguitar go to the gallery library for ObjectDock, select Dock Icons and do a name search. You may have to play around like try Misc or other key words.

If that doesn't work you may need to just go through the pages till you find a icon pack that has at what you want, then use it's name for a search. It may pull up others.

If that doesn't work use titles for the software you are looking for. Once you find them you can save them to one folder under ObjectDock so that the will all be together for you.

So now that you have made the decision of getting WindowBlinds and ObjectDock, when will you upgrade to ObjectDesktop?  :SURPRISED:  Once you start using the stuff you will want to, trust me. That's how we all got hooked. I mean that in a good way.  ;)

i would go for object desktop, but to be honest i just want windowblinds (for the nice refreshing and inspiring look of the pc.) and object dock for the sheer useability of it.

plus free logon studio added in and i have a great setup.

oh and an update on the max and maya issues.

i have tried both trials of WB and OD running together (and on their own) and max and maya run FINE!! no graphical errors. could be the fact i updated my nvidia drivers to the newest, but i am very happy.

I will buy both now

can i just ask, looking at all the windowblinds skins, it seem A LOT are for vista, is there a way to exclude the vista skins in anyway, either on the site or using the wincustomize browsing program (as i will get the WC subscription)

THANKS sooooo much for all your help guys. amazing response times, i will be an ever-present on these forums from now on for sure. maybe after fnishing uni i may do some skins myself :)

Very few of the skins are Vista only.  Most work with both XP and Vista.  :CONGRAT:
