Skinning your ceiling and wall

Because . .you know . . you can

http://www.theskyfactory.com/index.php

For about three years I worked in an office that had been converted from two large closets.  The space was supposed to be temporary but it obviously wasn't.

The team worked on folding tables with power strips and cat5 cable hanging everywhere.  It was grim.

To make life a little better, I grabbed a few 486 PCs that weren't doing anything and installed Aladdin Sundial to act like windows to the outside world.  This was an amazing app (at the time) in that it used time lapse photography synced with the system time as a wallpaper.

So it looked like we had windows to Hawaii on a few walls.

Unfortunately, the views were all the same, and we were not in Hawaii.

The Sky Factory has done something similar with static images installed to look more naturally part of the environment.  They have a number of different ceilings and "windows".  Pretty cool stuff.

All they really need is to make them dynamic (and cheap) for me to be sold.

I'm hoping that at sometime in the future, there will be a Natural Desktop-like dream and then we'll see some magic!

If you work in a windowless environment, how do you cope?

You know philly, it might actually be cost effective there.  I know I was generally happier with my version.

Now, that's cool. Great way to bring the outside world to a office building. :)

And you would know, how???? ;p

Sort of reminds me of a Bill Cosby skit where two boys were making a ruckus in their bedroom and broke the bed through jumping up and down on it.

Father: "All right, so how did the bed get broken?"

Boys: "Dad, a big man came through the window and, and, and tipped us out of bed... then he, he, he started jumping up and down on it 'til it broke."

Father: "So you're telling me that a big man came through the window, tupped you both out of bed so he could jump up and down on it?"

Boy: "Yes dad, and that's not all... he, he, he broke the bedside lamp as well!!"

Father: "How could a man have come through the window and broke the bed and the bedside lamp.... we don't have a window in this room!!"

Actually, this sounds like a great idea... I could have all the trappings of a pirate ship and the open sea. :p

And Bichur, to feel like he'd never left home and wasn't at the office, could have a stump with a few troll thumpers dancing around outside.
