Commenting!!

Hello It is me, the sound pack guy. LOL. I dont know about anyone else but I feel like I am stealing if I download someones work and dont tell them what it think. Expecially if It is really great work. With skins or icons you can get an idea of what it looks like from the preview. I comment based on the preview of a skin most of the time, other times I use the skin\icon and LOVE IT so much I have to go back and tell them. I also must note that I get so excited to get on Wincustomize.com and check my skins to see if I got a comment. I get soooo so so happy if there is a new comment. And I also make shure to thank the person for there comment. I LOVE COMMENTS!

My point is this... Just because people cant preview my sound packs I dont get as many comments. I am thinking that is the reason. The only other reason would be that they SUCK. And if there is something wrong with my sound pack I also Like to hear it. It is called Critiquing Peeps. It isnt that hard to browse back to the sound schemes gallery which by the way is a whole 5 pages short and Tell me what you think about my work good or bad. Am I crazy? LOL so if you are reading this and download my sound packs please PLEASE tell me what you think. Tell me what to change. Tell me anything. I want to know. I work hard on those sound packs.(not as hard as skinners and icon makers and everyone else) It is not as much work as skinning. But I work hard and spend allot of time to make them the best I can. Days! Honestly. I like to do the best I can. Thousands of you download but 3-9 comment. I know that this ratio may be close to everyone elses but I am just talking out my booty. LOL I would really apreciate some more critisism and or credit. all of your comments make my world. Thats a little dramtic. Hehe. I just really like comments. It is the sole reason I work so hard. Just take the time and tell me what you think. If I have to beg I will! <3 Thanks peeps love to all!

Hey Rob, one thing you have to keep in mind, using your Windows XP Remix as an example, it has 5300 downloads, 4569 of those are by anonymous users, they are not able to comment on skins. Now with that said, I agree that it can be disheartening to put time into a skin and not receive any comments.

Rob, just be happy you're getting downloads. It takes a lot to convince me to leave a comment. I usually just rate them. I guess that's more than a lot of people. As long ase you are getting dl's then that says people like your stuff. For what it's worth, I like the sexy female voice and the soothing sounds SoundPackages.....those rock!

It would be nice if there were some way to offer a sample of each package. A little sound icon to click on that played 3 or 4 sounds. I imagine they download it, many having every intention of coming back to comment and then they just get side tracked and forget.

I can see where this could become, what may be, the most thankless gallery on the site. Perhaps featuring the packages once in a while...maybe the featured ones could have samples to offer.

I MISS my sounds. Sigh. The wife has sensitive hearing/ears. I keep the sound off about 90% of the time. I miss it. Back when I had Win2K, I used to download a lot of themes from other sites (before I ever heard of WC) that were made just for Win2K. They had some pretty cool sound schemes thrown in with them. After a while, I started making my own. I make them mostly for my step-son now. Funny, goofy stuff that keeps him laughing with every click of the mouse.

I used this (Link) soundpackage for a while to annoy my wife.

Otherwise I always have the sounds muted.

Yep that's me, one of the first things I do is disable all the annoying system sounds, except for new mail notification. System sounds annoy me, all I want to hear is my own music/media, not a weird whoosh or beep or chord when I minimize a window or empty the recycle bin.

Gah, heck I can't even get my replies to post (2nd try....first one vanished).

I dont mind minimal sounds but I can live without them too. What I really cant stand is if you get one that when you min/max/close a window you get 15 seconds of a bell tolling or a 15 second song clip. Very annoying. :p

hate that.

I like the subtle sound schemes. There are one or two WB's from a little ways back that had sounds in them that were very nice. Just little beeps and clicks.

I've run across some (from my Win2K days) that were songs broken up into sound schemes. I think one was Philadelphia-Bruce Springsteen and the other was Sting's version of Windmills Of My Mind. Awesome songs, lousy soundschemes.

Exactly!

Ive been wondering about that lately as Ive gone through alot of the older stuff. And there were alot of good looking blinds back then that had the sounds included along with having extra buttons for things like window transparency, minimize to systray, links, media players.

Makes me wonder why you dont see those things in any of the newer blinds. :p

woops sorry for going off topic there Rob ;)

Yeah Po smed I agree! That would be cool, and I am willing to bet that allot forget. I forget everything.LOL.Cavan great point I never though of that?! makes me feel allot better when I think of It like that! I am so oblivious!

killajosh Thank you so much! I am glad you like them. I will keep that In mind. Most people seen to want the more soothing sounds rather than The robotic electronic sounds i have noticed. (well according to dls)

No prob Zakai 369. that is a good point. I have come across blinds like that and Never knew it was possible? I was amazed. It was just recently that I was useing a Blind that had those buttons and thought they where a decoration? Then I accidentally clicked one and the windows went transparent? I was so confused! LOL. And that same one had a button to open WMP.

And Everyone else... I know what you mean about Not likeing sounds. I personaly dont like sounds for every single event. I hate menu popup sounds, I hate Naviage sounds, Those events happen too much and the sound gets annoying. I always diable them for my use. But when I make a sound package I upload it with all of the sounds enabled so that the user can disable as they want and so that they can listen to all the sounds and pick through them. I just want sounds for start, exit, question, notify, mail, ect. But...

I try to make them as complete as possible for the users who like them all. I am hesitant sometimes to leave them all enabled when I upload because I think that some may HATE it becuase there are too many sounds (like navigate and menu pop)that you hear REAPEADEDLY! I know there are people who will get annoyed and not even use the package becuase they may not know how to disable the sounds.

Does anyone think I should Leave it Up to the user to Enable the sounds them selves? Or should I Keep them enabled so they can hear what they have to work with, without having to use the drop down menu? For me, I think It is easier to be able to scroll down and click the play button for each sound to hear it.... Rather than toggleing back and forth from the packaged sounds, tab to the main, in order to see what is used and unused? Geezie PEEEETs another long comment by the Infamouse LONG COMMENT LEAVER Robjk!LOL

I should just call all of you... It would be easier on your eyes! LOL

LOL... one more thing... The open sound! AHHHHHH! It plays 1 MILLION TIMES when you start your computer becuase of all of your programs you have set to open at system startup. There should defenately be a way around that?

Rob, I think one reason is that the robo electric sounds are a little "harsh" (for lack of a better term). And I'm not just saying that about yours. Check out the SD Techno SoundPackage. Plus, if I wanted my PC to sound like something electronic, I'd probably just stick with the factory Windows XP sounds.

If you want a great example of a SP that's easy on the ears, check out the 'Stardock 2008' SoundPackage. That's the one I've been using since I purchased ObjectDesktop (about 5 months). Now that you put up Serenity, I have another one that I don't mind using (that and sexy female...but I really do prefer the simple, soft tones).........

I've edited out the bad parts for you. We can't have language like that. :)

And now back to your regular scheduled thread.

Yeah I just do the sound packs because I cant do anything else. And because there are so little. I will definatly keep in mind that people Like more soothing soft sounds. Minimal amount of sounds as well. But Do you guys think I should keep all of the sounds enabled when I upload or leave it up to the downloader. I really need to know.

Do what I did...that didn't work....

I uploaded two screenshots with the names 'ignore' and 'ignore2' because...like wow....I wanted them IGNORED as they were uploads with a purpose, not 'pretty pics of my desktop at this specific inst - only to be updated by another at the specific inst immediately following'...and got comments...and ratings.

Maybe I can sell them to those who want them more....;)

IMHO, I think you should leave them all enabled. It should be up to the user to turn off the ones they dont want.
