Ability terminology - what does "fighters" refer to?

When an ability's text refers to friendly or enemy "fighters", just what is that actually going to affect?  I'd assume that it's a catch-all term for strike craft - i.e. both fighters and bombers - but is this assumption wrong?  I'd hate to be investing in skills that only helped or harmed actual Fighters when it doesn't do anything to Bombers.

It's a catch-all for strike craft, but I really wish they'd use a different term because of the distinction between fighters and bombers.

changing the terminology in the specific areas to "strikecraft" wouldn't be overly difficult.

pehaps they'll make that change in a patch, just for clarity's sake.

strikecraft
fighters - good vs. light armor targets and other fighters
bombers - good vs. structures and high armor targets

this is what i have seen and experienced

Some of the Cap Ship abilities are a bit ambiguous in this regard. Do we have definitive answers?

I'd like to know this as well. I can recall one Advent capship ability specifically refers to boosting 'Fighters' - is that all strikecraft, or Fighters specifically? I know there are some other cases of this.

Ambiguity is bad :P

theres no ability/attack that only affects fighters and not bombers, all things that can hit/affect fighters can also hit/affect bombers.

just look at the entity files, theres only 4 groups of ship targets allowed.
fighter = all strikecraft, otherwise fighters/flaks couldnt kill bombers.
capital = capital ships
frigate = ..
cruiser = ..

The only exception would be weapons upgrades- there are seperate lines for fighters and bombers. Otherwise when they say fighters they mean strikecraft.

Great, thanks for the response! Glad I wasn't too far off. I do hope they fix the text, though vague ability text is more of a pet peeve than anything important.
