If this story is true........it means HD-DVD is dead and the format war is over. It's been looking this way for some time but if Toshiba is pulling the plug then it leaves the playing field clear for Blu-Ray. I hope the price of the players start to come down soon  :)

Not really, just the DVD player.

Good news I suppose. I prefer the Blu-ray format, it has a lot more disc space compared to HD-DVD.

Most of my stuff is on Blu-ray. Though sadly, I have HD-DVD as well, because Star Trek came out HD-DVD only  :(
Plus there are quite a few films out on HD-DVD only, hopefully that will now change.

Fuzzy I 'm pretty sure that Star Trek will be put out on Blu Ray now.

Guess I wont be needing that dual format player now. ;)

Sweet. I've been waiting for one or the other to drop off, so I knew which one to buy. I knew it was only a matter of time. Luckily for me, I already have a BlueRay player with my PS3. Sony finally got a format to stick. I gotta give them props for continuing to try and bring out more formats after that whole MiniDisc debacle.

Thanks for the link yrag, but, my two players together cost less than that ;)

Time to cut my losses on HD-DVD. I have first series Star Trek, The Matrix Trilogy, and seven other films, two of which came free with the player.

Blu-ray only from now on...

Guess my love of new fangled toys hasn't extended into this arena as yet... I still have the original DVD format connected to my 76cm (older tube type) TV. Shoot, I still run VHS tapes for movies I never got around to updating to DVD.

I suppose that when I've finished upgrading mrs starkers rig I should look into Blu-ray and a decent LCD wide-screen TV... saw a nice Palsonic 86cm advertised the other day for AU$574.00, which is a good price as compared to some of the more up-market brands.... with a Blu-ray DVD and HD digital top box (package deal) it was only AU$899.00. :)

Samsung are knocking out a couple of models of BR players for about $230 here in the US :)

BR burners/writers for your PC are still quite high and the cheapest I can find are about $250  :)

My Sony BDP-5300 cost £179 and came with the three Pirates of the Carribean movies and the three Spiderman movies...

The picture is great and so is the sound. Why would anyone buy an ordinary DVD player?

Which translate to around $450 - $500 here in Oz (depending on the exchange rate)... so the Palsonic package is a pretty good deal. Oh, and for anyone who thinks Palsonic isn't up to scratch, I still have a working Palsonic 51cm (tube) TV and hi.fi video recorder from eons ago (as I recall, Noah (biblical, not Po`) came over to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark on them with me) and they've far outlasted the Phillips, PaNasonics and Samsungs various family members bought since and are now defunct landfill somewhere.

Cos this anyone bought his DVD recorder and players well before the advent of Blu-Ray or HD DVD... and being I can pick up a standard DVD for AU$30.00, I can't see going Blu-Ray for a while yet if one goes Kaput... well not while I'm still upgrading the missus' PC ;)
