The importants of ships crews and colony ships?

I've done the tutorials and read the manual cover to cover but I'm not entirely sure exactly how the ships crew effects the ship?

Whats the difference between a 9000 man crew and a 3 man crew?

Can you kill the crew without blowing up a ship?

Can you put your own crew on an empty enemy ship?

Ship crews are simply for fluff and have no actual effect in-game.

Ship crews represent the number of capital ships that you can build. 1 ship crew = 1 capital ship you can build. You increase this number through the Fleet Logistics screen under research.

And no, you can't capture enemy ships.

Damn thats a bit disappointing. I took over a plant once and all the infrastructure was still owned by my enemy? Is there anyway I can steal the left over logistics structures? I don't want to have to sit there and blow them all up :(

I was referring to the actual crew on the ship. When you look at the info card it will say 9000/9000 or 1/1. (well aleast it did in the manual)
