Worried about the singleplayer campaign...

I did a search and found one thread with comments that the game won't have a campaign in the traditional sense.

I seriously hope this is just speculation and hasn't been confirmed?

I would hate for this game to ship with just skirmish maps and it's multiplayer as the only selling point.

Galciv 2 is an example of how not to do a campaign...if they slap a few objectives on skirmish maps and call that the singleplayer game I'm going to be really dissapointed.

I know most people only care about multiplayer in RTS games, but I've never enjoyed the experience. I prefer to play a good scripted singleplayer campaign, with a story and movie clips, then move on to play against the AI with my friends.

There will be a singleplayer campaign of some kind... but the "won't be a campaign in a traditional sense" is dev-confirmed. In fact, they're the ones who came up with that phrasing. That said, I do not think we're looking at a GalCiv 2 style of campaign, either. Devs have been very cagey, but I believe they kinda sorta shot that one down at one point. (Maybe... did I mention they've been cagey?)

Hmm well I agree with Avarice on this one. I enjoy the campaigns because you get "in touch" with the game lol. It helps you learn the basics, plot, and other strategies you can use.

Also, it kinda sets a mood, and a basic backgroud for on-line play.

In HW you where ALWAYS hearing referances to he storyline, if you nvr played it, you could get confused easily.

Me too . I remember Homeworld 2. The missions werent much of a challenge but it was always something special to actually complete the missions because you unlock the next bit of FMV footage that progresses the storyline. I really hope Sins has a fmv driven storyline , even if the actual missions themselves are mickey-mouse compared to the skill of online play..

Yeah, single player is good for introducing the game mechanics and telling the lore which really gets you into the game.

I'm glad you guys agree, lets hope the cagey devs do as well and had the time to put something decent together for us.

Either way, I won't regret my purchase, I'm enjoying the game so far even in it's beta state...it's pretty unique.
