Can't start a new game in 1.8d

In 1.8d the game crashes to desktop when clicking next on the screen where you select your race's abilities and political party. It crashes immediately when clicking next, never going to the opponent selection screen, and it happens every time. I didn't have any problems loading a saved game.

Please install 'SmartException' from the free stuff section in Stardock Central. Make sure that SE is running and start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an exception report that can be emailed to gc2bugs@stardock.com.

Include with the email:
+ A description of what you were doing at the time.
+ How to reproduce the crash (if possible).
+ A zipped save (if applicable).
+ The appropriate debug.err file.

The devs cannot help if you do not provide these details!

I just sent the info off. Annoying, having played since the 2006 launch day without any major problem (except for being a victim of the early overheating issue) it's rather jarring to have the game suddenly no longer work. If a fix doesn't come soon I might have to reinstall...

I, also, patched GC2 with the 11/07 update (1.80d.097)...but strangely, SC lists that 1.80c.096 is available as an update! The update column should be empty now that I have updated to the lastest patch : why list, after the update process has been completed, a version # which obviously seems older ?

(Why does the forum insert a "Cake Walk" symbol below? I never play at the easier levels of difficulty!)

Ok, the crash seems to be caused by certain custom race configurations. So until Cari can pin down the cause, the simple solution is to just delete/move your customracexml files, and you should be able to start a new game normally.

There is a bug in SDC that causes this. It should no longer show the old one as available if you restart SDC.

If you have medals showing but haven't posted any games, alignment and difficulty show an average of 0, which results in evil/cakewalk.

Sorry guys, for whatever reason this didn't happen for me when I was testing with the localized customracexmls, and I didn't have any custom opponents at the time in my folder.

I'll see if we can get the fix up today.
