Windowblinds 6 Colorizing screen bug

There's a small bug with the colorizing screen in WB6. This probably goes in line with my other complaint about NEEDING to actually be able to hit APPLY on those screens before WB6 saves the settings as apposed to "auto/live saving" which is kind of stupid and there's no reason for it. Anyway, if you use coloring HSL stuff you can change the colors and then drag the color bars to pick a color, but you actually have to hit APPLY to actually color the skin with the new choice. Well, guess what, because of the "auto/live save" that WB6 does on the config screen it saves and keeps each and every click and change, but it doesn't auto/live apply the color you pick. This causes a problem if you're just messing with the color, but don't want to apply it. Normally, you could just close out of a program or hit cancel and then it WON'T save the changes. WB6 won't work like this so even though you didn't click on APPLY to actually change the color of the screen, the color bars won't go back to the "currently applied" color so you loose your place on the specific color you just picked.

So in closing, TAKE THE AUTOSAVE FEATURE OUT OF WB6 CONFIG... IT'S JUST CAUSING ISSUES LIKE THIS AND IT'S REALLY NOT NEEDED.

Thanks!

edit: One more thing. The color choices are not saved "per skin". So, if you choose to change color on one skin and apply another skin, if the color you changed happes to match on the new skin the same color changes apply. Kinda silly don't you think? How about an "auto reset/disable" to color screen if you change skins? Also, I'd like a reset button to ALL the color bars like you have for skin brightness. It just makes sense. If you mess up or want to go back to defaults you can simply choose reset and "boom", back to the starting point it goes.

OK, the last part I take back, but the first still holds true. I hadn't noticed the option to Save the color changes.... it's kind of in a non-obvious place. I'd expect it to be on the color change screen.

Yes they are.

so... again.. SPEAKING OUT OF TURN. Do your homework my friend. It's good advice.. promise

The option to save colour changes is on the colour change screen.  The options in that screenshot are to allow you to pick from saved presets without going to the colouring page.

On the colour change screen (or the transparency changing screen) click on the combo box with "Change setting for all skins" and you will see Create new / delete preset.

You guys really don't belive in simple buttons do you? Why is the interface so burried in on itself? When do you think you'll change the option so that it doesn't apply changes on the fly like it does now... it's anoying? How about an option to turn this off please.

Hush, if the interface was a little "more intuative" maybe I'd find these burried options. There's not even any "detailed" docs for EVERYTHING in WB6 yet...

I think that WB6 puts many of the previous builds "hidden" features more out in the open and that's a good thing.  There are many more (like the one cited above) that are still very hidden for the average user.

Stardock products *are* complex.  There are so many options available that the trick is finding a balance between what Grandpa JoeUser wants to do easily and what Junior PowerUser wants to control.  Until there is (exhaustive and exhausting) documentation (that most people won't read anyway) the only thing to do is click around and see what is what.  How not to overwhelm one user base with option while making all the minuet settings available isn't easy.

WB6 may not the best solution but it may be the best fit for what we have and for most users I think it's more than adequate.

I will say that over the past year configuration interfaces across the board have improved for SD products.  Especially ObjectDock.  What used to have many "Advanced settings" and "Extra Settings" etc. has been reorganized into a much less convoluted interface .

Perhaps you should consider returning WindowBlinds.  I'd even authorize a full refund so that you would go away.

You'd like that too much because for you guys that would quiet the person pointing out all the things that should be fixed. All companies like to do business this way, I honestly had more respect for SD until you pointed this out. The hole just got bigger for you with that single statement. Shame.

Look, you know what people want from this product. You know what interface changes they want from this product. I think we can all agree that some of the changes aren't that hard to visualize as "helping the product's visual interface". Why keep denying the pleasure of said change and solution to the problems?

Maybe you can try something else. Do what ATI does with their driver revisions each month. Depict what was fixed and what's still broken. That way it's full disclosure and everyone knows the blatant limitations/glitches. (this last part was a joke... I know some of you have a hard time with the humor on the matter)

I guess I could just ban you I suppose.

I think the problem is with the statement "pointing out all the things that should be fixed".  That list is really an individual's opinion which, once heard is noted.....along with all the other 'individual opinions'.

The product customer/user has a voice to be heard but should not contend to be policy-changers when it comes to a product's management/development.  That is the perogative of the product owner/developer.  With SD's Windowblinds [in particular] much of its development/improvement has been through direct feedback from the Skinners specifically, perhaps more so than the general user, no matter how significant/numerous the latter.

As site Admin I have 'opinions' of how things should be done [here]....what constitutes 'critical change' and what doesn't.....however I know they are only what I see from my perspective...and the trick is to make comment...then move on.  That saying "the squeaky wheel gets the most grease" is fundamentally flawed....as often the squeaky wheel simply gets REPLACED as its squeak is interminably annoying/persistent.

If I were to repeatedly complain about all the things I may see as issues I'd be the sudden recipient of a 'DCM' ....

I agree with that completely. It could be implimented by having a 'history' option available when WB is highlighted in Stardock Central. Clicking it could bring up a page like this:
http://sdc1.stardock.com/public/wb6/production/history.htm

Btw, I got that page by clicking the history button that appears in SDC when Wb is highlighted......
