Is this game for me?

I've pre-ordered this game and have been playing since beta 2. The problem I've been having is, I don't know if I actually like this game. I've played a lot when I first got to play, but now its about 1 game per update.

My major problems (thus far)
________________
1. Quick games seem to take too long.
I've played Starcraft and Warcraft 3, and my quick games usually take no longer than half-an-hour. With Sins however, it seems to take atleast 2 hours to complete.

2. I'm not fond of multiplayer
I'm no fan of online multiplayer games. I don't like the idea that a good opponent might not be around to play with in 1, 2, 5, or even 10 years. I much rather have a good opponent A.I. that I can expect to be around to play against whenever I like.

They're trying to get the smaller maps to go quicker -- be aware that, as is, some believe that larger maps actually play quicker (more resources, so its quicker to get going / end)

They're also working on a decent AI, but they can't do much with it ATM while the game is still in flux.

If you don't like Multiplayer, then yeah at this stage I imagine the game would be quite boring. The AI just can't put up a good challenge.

But, beta 4 should tweak the AI quite a bit and make it decent, though I imagine we'll still be able to find many ways to improve it. It is inevitable, though, that every single player game becomes boring sooner or later. No matter how good the AI is, eventually you figure out how to beat it consistently on the most difficult setting and after that the game takes a sharp dive

Eh, I wouldn't expect that to happen until late-stage beta 4. I. E. a half dozen patches in.

Online multilayer is always the apex of a game. It's when you face other humans who have different strategies that end up working better than yours. I agree, single player is boring, but I prefer to play against human opponents anyways.

The fastest game I played lasted only an hour and a half on a 2v2 game.

Eh, if it hadn't been for my grandfather interrupting us last night, you would have lost soon enough there. Sorry again for that.

Oh... and you did finish at least one: I lost to you right before that, because of some stupid BS that I should probably mention in the gameplay thread.... (I didn't get an "enemy sighted" report when his far superior force jumped into the asteroid I was getting ready to colonize... lost my flagship before I even knew what was happening.

Hey, just because he's never finished one (which he has, but since it was really just me surrendering before inevitable defeat...) doesn't change the fact that he's never lost one

... denial

I think this game will get better with the addition of the new races. Plus there are quite a few good oponents online, and we are a very friendly community. As you have already preordered it you should stick around, dont judge a game by its beta

Have you tried the 'fast' setting added in the beta 3 patch on a small map? Should help considerably in that regard.

On top of that, the scope of games like Starcraft and Warcraft 3 is quite a bit smaller than Sins. No matter how you slice it, it'll be very difficult to have a 30 minute Sins game just because the nature of the game is different.

Hearing that most games in Sins will last over an hour , I was slightly tentative. But once you get into a game , you just let the hours past and before you know it , 3 hours have past and your still having fun. I have to admit tho, by the end of a game of sins im totally drained. I think one game a night does me fine.

It's like that for everyone I think. Even if the game isn't very long, you get so into it that it just tires you out, but in a good way. I never really feel like "god, I can't believe I wasted 3 hours on THAT", even if I lose.

I suppose one of the pitfalls of playing a game in Beta is you form opinions of it, even though it isn't all there. You've already purchased Sims. Maybe the best thing to do is wait unitl next year when its done, then give it another try. I'll bet it will seem like a whole different game.

I'll look into that. Thanks.

In any case, where should I place comments for game improvement? There are a few things I would like to have tweaked, or looked at.

where? well do a quick search on the things you want to post on and if you find topics that fit, then post there, if you don't, post them either in the general "gameplay" thread or create your own. and I advise you not to post them in several different threads, as that would spinter the discussion.

I see this as one big long brainstorming session, so all suggestions should be welcome.

I'm back. That feature didn't seem to make much of a difference.

By the way, would it be to much to ask for a ship flight speed multiplier. I find the longest part of the game is how long it takes for a ship, or a fleet to arrive somewhere. If I could double the speed of all ships, I might be able to shave off maybe almost half the time needed to play.

By the way, a resource multiplier would be nice to have as well.

That's what the game speed settings are for. We're not really keen on adding a fake multiplier setting.
