I don't want WB moving my skins!!!

After updating WB yesterday (9/20) it started moving my skins to a folder all users could find them. I don't want this for sure! It means it is moving almost 2GB to my C: and I don't have much space in there. I want my skins in D:, like it was before, where I have a lot of space. My C: is just for Windows files and that's all. I don't even use Program Files to install programs unless I don't have the option to change that. But for my skins, YES, I want to have the option to put them where I want them.

So I uninstalled WB and am waiting for a fix for this, please?

Thank you for your attention - Roberto Gadelha

A per user folder is not suitable for WindowBlinds as all skins must be readable by all users on the machine.

May be the forum posts should have an option of some sticky foot notes every reply. Neil had to repeat this multiple times on this thread.

On a network can't you take care of that by setting access to files only to view?

Readonly means someone else on the network can read your premium themes. You know what that means. By law, you can be held liable if someone steals copyrighted material from your computer.

This might go along with my other message, but I have Win XP and purchased WindowBlinds 6.0. When the installation tries to copy files to my Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ it fails because that Documents folder is write protected and even I as administrator can't alter those properties. Is there any way to work around this? I'd like to be able to install the application onto Windows XP or as a XP user should I not use version 6? Thanks.

drish311 go back to your other post I left you a reply. You're fine with using WB6 and XP.

I'm using Vista Premium and I've had no problems when I was using WB5 with my skins in the D drive. So, I'm not sure that this is a Vista requirement. Probably someone with a gripe starting to spread rummors. However, I do agree with the consensus that it would have been a good idea for SD to allow the user to select which drive/folder to use. One of my pet pieves is when software installs itself without asking which drive/folder to use. I think that it should be up to the PC owner to decided where and how to manage their PC. In trying to make it easier for the user by standardizing installation location, the software makers are taking away our right and freedom to choose what we do with our PC and how we manage it. Not a very good idea. I agree also that if SD wants to have a specific location (Which still should be selectable by the user) that all it's software and related skins goes there (OD, WB, IP,etc). This is my 3 1/2 cents (Tax included)

Adapt? Never I say! Revolt! Start a rebellion of the oppressed masses! Stage a riot! Stop drinking coffee from Starbucks and buying programs from Microsoft. Force them to listen to the public that shells out the money for their Rolls Royces and McMansions! ............*sigh*.....Tantrum finished.

Well I have a rather odd/stupid problem. Im the sole user of my system and run in admin mode. Anyway when WB moved my files it moved them to all users document folder which for some reason doesnt show up in My Documents droplist. Is there a setting in XP I need to change so that all user documents instead of just my doc's show from the start menu? As things stand I can get to the themes and such by browsing the HD but if I just pull up My Docs the only thing listed in the Stardock subfolder is sound packager. Thx in advance, Jess

They're in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock.

You could always right click > properties on the My Docs folder in the start menu and just change the target to the shared docs folder instead.

Yes, I know where they are, hehe. What I was trying to figure out is how to get the All User documents to show when I open my My Documents flyout on the start menu which right now it doesnt do. I see all user apps in the program menu but this is slightly different.

I am sorry but I do not see the problem here. We have told you how to move the skins and that there was no time in 6.0 to add a function to the UI to allow you to move the skins. What exactly were you expecting?Neil DO NOT change this I presently like this placement of the skins in the shared section of the system for many reasons~!#1. It makes it very easy to share the files across my network for editing Vista and XP versions. {I have one computer XP Pro and one Vista...}#2. It also makes it very easy to have my system do a auto backup of my skins before an update. {I also have a server with Acronis to backup each one of systems automatically. Which uses my network to do just that and other backup functions.}This placement has been the best arrangement for me to have a complete control of all my editing functions and backups made so much easier.Whatever the idea was for - it is a really good one!!!Thanks!SGT
