I don't want WB moving my skins!!!

I don't want WB moving my skins!!!

After updating WB yesterday (9/20) it started moving my skins to a folder all users could find them. I don't want this for sure! It means it is moving almost 2GB to my C: and I don't have much space in there. I want my skins in D:, like it was before, where I have a lot of space. My C: is just for Windows files and that's all. I don't even use Program Files to install programs unless I don't have the option to change that. But for my skins, YES, I want to have the option to put them where I want them.

So I uninstalled WB and am waiting for a fix for this, please?

Thank you for your attention - Roberto Gadelha

Don't get me started about Norton. My parents still got that stuff installed on their system...

Generally speaking I want applications to save my user settings under the Application Data folder.
(C:\Users\%username%\AppData\ in Vista.) To me that makes more sense than putting it in the Documents folder.

Not trying to start a poll but I have to go with Stardock's keeping them out of the Program Files directory. A step in the right direction I'd say. I'd also have to vote for being able to define the path for the skins though.

Not really an option. Microsoft won't certify programs anymore that store data in the program files directory.

Seriously guys, do you think WE wanted to have to move the skins? Don't you think we'd prefer to work on other things? Moving the skins is a pain in the butt. You're preaching to the choir.

We can look at an option for letting people choose where the skins go though.

Hum, hum, Mister Banfield, don't forget to have a look to this thread also ==> WWW Link becauze things are still the same even with beta 5.92.93 (seems to me there's something to go with .tga's using files by the skin - or not - and/or with the building of .wb4 files)

Thanks for that. I figured aas much about MS.

Has Stardock responded in any meaningful way to objections concerning this move?

MS certification FTW

Please do

And Please create a poll if that would help assure you that many people want that option.

ps I don't have any ads showing up in my gmail account Just change the setting

And how many people get airmile points when they shop. They really do know how many rolls of toilet paper you use a week

And Norton is insidious

Since the recent update moved files to where, as Stardock reps point out, they need to be because of MS, is it safe to assume that this is a dead issue?

Don't hit or throw things, just wanted to see peoples reactions.

My reaction: Doesn't bother me a bit. Sorry.

It is my opinion that if that is where the WB skins must be then so be it.

BUT then put ALL of the other Stardock program skins there too! OD, CXP, DX, FX, etc., everything should be in the same structure eg C:\Documents and Settings\AllUsers\Documents\Stardock\ThemeManager,
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\WindowBlinds, instead of C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorXP\Themes, C:\Program Files\Stardock\DesktopGadgets\AquariumDesktop2007, C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Backgrounds\OxidizedDocks3, D:\MyDocuments\Stardock\SoundPackager, D:\My Documents\ObjectDock Library\Backgrounds\Knot Vista, etc. to make backup of the files as painless as possible.

My Documents folder is on a seperate HDD and I back it up to a 3rd HDD. If everything (skins, etc.) goes into the structure on C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\*, I can copy the folder to D:\ and have it auto back up to another HDD.

Count this as a vote for one (1) location for all.

Wherever we want, and that's IT!

I vote for putting the rest of SD skin/themes into same structure "All Users\Documents\Stardock\*"

By the way, I just thought of something:
If everyone that want to store their skins/themes on another drive:

Say that all SD app skins/themes where moved to "All Users\Documents\Stardock\*"; then you could map a folder on another location to the "All Users\Documents\Stardock\" folder. That way you don't have to edit the registry or anything because "All Users\Documents\Stardock\" becomes a reference link to the real location.

Just give us (XP users) the option to move or not move, or to choose the place we want our skins TO BE! That's all I want

Repeating myself:
Frogboy: We can look at an option for letting people choose where the skins go though.

Me: Oh my God, that's all I want

Me, again: The lambs lie down on Broadway...

What was that? I can't remember!
Please, let us choose!?

Sometimes . .after making a request . . it's best to give it some time.

Due to time constraints we cannot provide a function for changing the location in the WB UI for 6.0

This is something that needs a lot of testing to ensure 64 bit and other user accounts continue to work correctly.

For now if you want to change the location then you can do so via those registry keys.

How about someone whip up a DesktopX widget that wil do this for folks? Since I'm not a programmer it would take me a bit to do this. I know it wouldn't be too complicated though and it doesn't have to be anything fancy either.

The complication comes from having to change keys for 64 bit and or other users.  Thats very messy.
