Board/Card Games

Hey guys, I've been playing alot of settlers of catan and killer bunnies. I absolutely love these games. I'm wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions of other board games that arn't so common to look into.

who has time for board games when pc games are about??

There is only one card game that i like and that is commonly seen in the games section that comes with your windows operating system.... 'hearts'

Play that game with four real people and then enjoy the backstabbing scheming dastedly deeds you can inflict on each other. If you don't come away from that game with a persecution complex then you havn't realy played it!!

Power Grid is a great game, plays in under 2 hours. Some of the ones my friends and I keep coming back to are Starfarers of Catan, House on the Hill, Twilight Imperium, Ticket to Ride.

I have only recently discovered settlers; it's pretty good, but unfortunately the person I know who owns it isn't..."favorable" company.

I also agree with hearts. Hearts is good. If you're on your comp, might as well try free cell, its fun. Or minesweeper. But I digress.

Risk has always been a favorite, but I requires a lot of time and players who are patient enough to commit. I have only played Axis and Allies once, and I loved it. Unfortunately, I never finished my first game; As the USSR I conspired with the axis and made a coup against my former allies, who didn't approve and decided that it was against the rules. The ensuing argument ended the game *sniff sniff*.

Stratego is fun, don't know how common that game is. Mastermind is ok.

I also once played a board game called Zombies, which I have since been unable to find in stores. I think it is a Wizards of the Coast game; you could try there.

Speaking of WotC, I used to love Magic: the Gathering. But that's not a game you just pick up all of a sudden. Unless you have recently won the lottery and are just aching to spend your cash, I wouldn't recommend getting MtG cards. Better to find a friend who already has some.

Um...I can't think of any more.

the Werewolves of Miller's Hollow . It's really great game that you can play with up to over 20 people but needs at least 8 people to play a decent game.

It's actually a mind game that doesn't really require the cards you get in the small box so you can play the game even without it (just get pieces of paper).

Its a game where you try and figure out who's the werewolf in the group. You only know your role and you have to deduce from what people say and how they react. It doesn't feel like a card game actually and its very cheap.

WoW TCG and Magic: the Gathering are great games. And they don't cost you so much as you might think if you trade cards online.

For people who want to turn of their computer and do something else, I advice to try Robo Rally. Great little game in which you have to create simple 5-Operation programs for your robot to send him across a factory floor to reach various checkpoints. The fun part is, that you don't know what your opponents are doing and once your robot is on its way, you cannot change the program. Add to that some dangers on the floor and strap a laser to each robot and you have loads of fun

Another very funny game is Munchkin, a card game that more or less makes fun of other games like Magic. Comes in a variety of settings and can be combined as much as you want it. Check it out under http://www.sjgames.com/munchkin/

Have fun

My all time favourite board game is Diplomacy. The game is about taking over europe, and the moves are troop and ship deployments leading to battles. But the interest ies in the off-board discussions - the diplomacy. Which country will you aly with and support? When will you turn on them? It is easy to lose a whole weekend playing this game.

Best with 7 people.

For something straightforward and addictive, try Mah Jongg. A bit like comlex rummy but far better!
