upgraded but free version still loads

I tried the free version. Liked it. Purchased the Plus version. No info on if I could install over the free version or if I had to remove it first. I assumed I could install over since removing the free version might mean I would lose the icons I had added.

The Plus version seemed to install okay. But I was never prompted to type in a registration code. And it seems that the free version still loads. No added features and it still suggests I upgrade.

Is there something really obvious here that I'm not seeing?

If I have to remove it completely, where are my settings stored so I can back them up and restore them later?

Thanks

Always uninstall the free version before installing the purchased one.

Uninstall what you have, reboot, install the purchased version. You can save your theme and it should be saved in the Program Files/Stardock/ObjectDock/Themes folder.

Thank you. That worked.

I removed the free version (Windows wouldn't let me select the Plus version in Add/Remove Programs), and used Registry Mechanic to remove all of the registry entries left behind. And then reinstalled the Plus version.

I have become so used to programs installing over older versions or removing the older programs for me. Perhaps Stardock will add this info to their FAQ.

Just for general information, I had a completely different experience when upgrading from ObjectDock Free to Plus.

I went online, purchased ObjectDock Plus (had Free already installed through Stardock Central) and downloaded the Plus installer from the link in the email.

Decided it would be a good idea to uninstall Free first so went to Control Panel> Add Remove etc. but ObjectDock Free wasn't listed. Ok, no problem, went to Stardock Central to uninstall it; it wasn't listed there anymore. Only ObjectDock Plus was shown (and showing as not yet installed, which was as it should).

Ok, decided my only option was to go for it and installed ObjectDock Plus through Stardock Central
(figuring that would be better than using the installer I had downloaded earlier).

Went without a hitch; Plus works fine; have no clue if Free got overwitten, left alone or ignored: it works (Plus, that is) is the point.

Everyone lived happily ever after.
