Total Anime!!!

As the title suggest, this post is all about ANIME!!! If you have a thought that includes anime, you post it here. If want to express your views on anime, you post them here. If you don't know about anime and want to learn, you ask here. If you want to debate on how much anime sucks, you go DIE!!! I'm just joking... but not really... Anyway, some of my favorite anime shows are (in no paticular order) Naruto, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, Blood +, Trinity Blood, Ghost in the Shell, Mar. I know of a lot of other anime, but it doesn't appeal to me as much. From the titles I listed, you can guess that I mainly like actiony anime with clever comedy and romance thrown in. As for my preference between traditional Japanese speech to translated speech, I think the Japanese speech adds more to the authenticity of the anime, but the translated is good too because I don't have to constantly pay attention and read subtitles, if I could choose I'd go with the Japanese.

I am also a fan of anime. My favorite of all times since I was a little child is Getter Robo G. I like most of Go Nagai's other super robot series, such as Mazinger. I also like the works of Hayao Miyasaki. I like most of the series you listed also. The ones I don't like is because I haven't seen them. I will usually watch a program in English and then in Japanese with the subtitles. The stories become more vibrant in the original language. Another thing that I like about Japanese cartoons is that they are a continuing series in which the characters grow and develop.

The only animations i watch are the simpsons and futurama.

Years ago i watched a legendary cartoon series but i forget what it was called....

The plot was that Earth was under attack by toxic meteors from bad guys who were called 'gamelons'. Then some weird female alien spirit entity gave Earth some technology to outfit an old battleship for space travel. Then they traveled through space wiping out Gamelons all over the galaxy.

Anyone remember what the show was called?

Futurama and the simpsons would more be classified as cartoons, but most people do confuse the two... Anime are Japanese and usually once in the form of a magna, kind of like a comic book to us...

As for that show, I think your thinking of Star Blazers... But I don't remember off the top of my head whether it is an anime or a cartoon... I'm pretty sure it was anime... But I don't recall a magna of it...

So a cartoon is a cartoon unless it is made in Japan and then it is an animie?

Star blazers does not sound familiar?

The features of the converted battleship were that the gun turrets shoot energy beam weapons instead of shells. It looked really cool in the cartoon! then it had a special 'super cannon' which fired an enomous energy beam weapon from a big hole in the front of the ship. This left the ship floating helpless in space for a few seconds.... perhaps inspiring the excalibur starship in the sequel to Babylon 5?

Pretty much, but most anime were magnas (comic books) before they were televised...

If I recall I think the ships name was battle cruiser Yamato... and the alien spirit's name was queen Starsha... Is that it, if not I must be thinking of some other anime... There are several others I can think of that are similar...

it's manga not magnas
magna is actually a name of a company (one of its meanings anyway)

Oh crap, sorry misspell... Manga* is the Japanese word for comics and print cartoons... I wasn't refering to the company (I didn't know there was one...). And now that I think of it, all of my favorite titles I listed are under the category of Shōnen, a type of manga/anime designated toward male veiwing... Suprise, suprise...

oh that's not a place to get any anime, it's just merely a list of what I've watched

yea that could be it, although the yamato was a japanese battleship, it was the pride of the japanese fleet in ww2 and was the largest battleship ever built as far as i know? The yamato was sunk by american sea planes during a suicide mission.

If the ship was called the yamato in the cartoon then that suggests the cartoon was made in japan!

If you want to debate on how much anime sucks, you go DIE!!!

Sorry, still living. Anime should roll over and die. See this SB Email. "Real tiny when it's closed; ridiculously huge when it's open."

huh? Now if you were talking about reality tv, then you got my vote!

If you want animation that sucks, look no futher than south park!! Even though the voicovers are brilliant, i just could never bear to insult my eyes to such an intense degree as what is required for south park.

I do have to admit, that is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, but not all anime is like that, most of the anime I listed that I like have less than half of those qualities, I still like anime... Some people do, some don't. And that dude is right, blue hair is cool .

I like south park for some reason. I think they want it to look crappy. It's the edgiest show on the tube, but for some reason I like it.

i'm a fan of cartoons in general. what would you consider non-Japanese animation that's been inspired/influenced by anime? for example, Teen Titans and Avatar: the Last Airbender both feature motifs common in japanese visual art (i'm thinking especially in facial expression), but AFAIK both are American.

my rules for anime are the same as my rules for other media: i like it if i think it's good. there's plenty of bad anime, and there's a lot that's pretty good.

I do not know? but even non japanese animation could still have been made in japan?

well no, they're not aired on those networks, they're produced by those networks (cartoon network and nickelodeon) and i'm pretty sure they're not imports. i don't think they'd outsource their labor to somewhere that pays more, if that's what you mean.

well, in any case i think Avatar is pretty good.

Huh? Japan is a world leader in animation, of course foreign companies would be queueing up for outsoursing!

They might be the cheapest in the world if you consider the quality and production time of the product?

well, fair enough. it seems counter-intuitive to me, but i don't care enough to actually look into it.

or maybe Akira?

Actually, a lot of animation outsourcing gets sent to South Korea nowadays: take a look at the number of Parks and Songs with three-syllable names in the credits of shows like Powerpuff Girls or Avatar. Clerks: the Animated Series had a hilarious take on it. (SUPER FUN AMERICAN PARTY!)
