New Test Build 1.6a

We had hoped that the memory leaks that we fixed in the 1.6 betas were the cause of the out of memory bug, but it turned out that we hadn't found all of them yet.   So sorry for the delay, but we think that we have squashed the last and worst of the leaks. 

We've also fixed a crash when you have the background stars (or point sprites) turned off. Thanks to the people who sent in their files so that we could reproduce the problem.

I'm posting this as a test build first so that you can try this out before we put it up on Stardock Central.

These test file now allows me to creating new games and load saved games with lowest video quality set with no CTD.

Its not running for me. I get an error message saying
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

Note: I am running Vista.

You are missing one or more files of DirectX that is required by DA. Updating your direct X with the latest version should do the trick! Just update your direct X with the latest Microsoft DirectX 9.19.1005 version and the missing files will be added to the Direct X 10 of Windows Vista.

Ok, tried that. Now I get a NEW error message:

"This application has failed to start because binkw32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

It sounds to me like your shortcut is pointing in the wrong place.  Where are you trying to run the game from? Stardock Central or the Games Explorer?

A fix for the weird lines on the minimap bug.  I didn't post it publicly because I wanted to hear back from the people who e-mailed me their save games first.

Galciv2 is in it's default instalation folder, and i'm trying to run the patch from my documents.

Or am I supost to paste it into the Galacric civilations folder?

You're supposed to copy the new files in the 1.6a zip file over to DA's folder and replace the ones that are there. Moot in any case though, as this update is now on SDC, so just grab it there and let it sort itself out

hi all i just installed gal civ 2 dark lords n updated n it says when i go to play "this product apperes to be validated but the serial or the machine sid dont match. what do i do?

No. The minimap fix appeared to work for me, but of the two people who tried it so far, one of them e-mailed me back and said that the problem still existed. If you want to try an updated copy, you can try this link:

i'm having odd errors with the new graphics engine; surfaces of some ship components seem to fail to render. here's an example.

No. The minimap fix appeared to work for me, but of the two people who tried it so far, one of them e-mailed me back and said that the problem still existed. If you want to try an updated copy, you can try this link:

Strange, it looks like you are play GC2:DL and not DA.  More, DA requires GC2 to be patched to 1.5 . And the new graphic engine is only for DA.

Dystopic, as PP says that's a DL debug (DA has its own in the GalCiv2\DarkAvatar folder). You need to post that one for DA issues. Though the DL debug does show you don't have DL up to the very latest, which is necessary for DA to work right since it shares some files.

that'd be a colossal DO'H!!! i totally forgot that DA has a separate debug file (i'm not an avid bug reporter, but i've noticed this one with a few ship components). well, i'll have to wait until i get home to get the newer debug. i've played since then, so i don't know if it'll reflect anything.
