i think i will just buy objectdock plus and windowblinds. i'm not sure about iconpackager just yet....thanks..

Before you purchase Windowblinds for $19.95 - check out Object Desktop.
For $49.95 you get a whole lot more and if you add up the cost of each program you will see that OD is the best buy.

i saw that, but i'll have to purchase objectdock plus seperately, right. i don't know much about OD and the other stuff that comes with that package deal. i'm not going to be creating or making anything, i don't think.

I made an article indexing most of the popular tutorials for most of the ObjectDesktop components, it might help when you make your decision: ODNT Tutorial Index.

When I bought it I didn't intend on making anything either but I started " Playing"

With Object Desktop you get windowblinds - DesktopX - Icon Packager - Icon developer - Which is very easy to use and you can recolour any icons and make an icon from a simple Jpeg that you like. You get Skin Studio, Windows FX and "Right Click " program and more more and more- if you add up each program you see that its a bargain..you get free updates for 1 year and renewal is $34.95 after that...

Yes, Object dock plus is bought separately but Object Dock is a free program ..thats the one I use..you only have to pay for " Plus " version.

whats the best way to save my themes and iconpackages i already have?....thanks

I have a folder on my desktop called 2007 Downloads.
In that, I have folders: GUI enhancements, Stardock, WinCustomize, etc.
Each of those has folders: Icon Packager or Icons, Desktop X Themes, DX Objects, WB 5, Widgets, etc.
In each of those, I have folders of authors or suites. When I want to install and/or run a new copy of a theme, etc, I go to it and run it.
Most of the creations are self-installing, but Rainlendar and Object Dock, among others, I need to "peel" down from the .zip file they arrive in, until they're just the file containing the ".ini" and graphics. This remaining file I leave tiled on the desktop, and go to My Computer>C>Program Files>Rainlendar 2 [or Object Dock>Backgrounds or Icons/Images] [or mostly My Computer > C > Program Files > Stardock...] and right-click/drag/copy the file to the program's Themes or Skins file.
As long as I have all the downloaded files in my main My Downloads folder, I can trash or delete the copies at any time if things get boggled and a fresh original is always there. They will get boggled, it's just the way of PCs...
It's a lot easier than my trying to describe it. Kind of like teaching someone to walk by voice only. Once you run one or two and get them ticking over, you'll see what a snap it is.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot...have fun!!

A simple solution for backing up your skins is to have a proggy do it for you. SyncBack is perfect for this http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/syncback-hub.html and it is free. Just set it to back-up your skins folder on a schedule and forget it.

I've been so impressed with the freeware version I bought the full version. The full version backs up open files, like e-mail, but the freeware version is fine for skins, documents etc.

Thanks FL! I'll check it out. Sounds much easier than what I'm doing, and safer too.
