Why subscribe

Why subscribe

I got my subscription renewal notice today. I'm sitting here wondering why I subscribe...

Last year within a week of renewing I sent 13 bug reports over two days time. In this year, one of these problems has been resolved completely. One has been half-fixed and the other 11 have been ignored.

I can get all of these programs from p2p for no charge. I see updates on p2p that only lag SDC releases by about 24 hours. Free is about the right price for what I'm getting.

So I ask, what am I paying for?

Okay. This is the email I received from "DanDunn" without being able to verify it was from him, this is the pic enclosed that the email claim's verify's that he can't log in.

You have made a mistake. Look closely at the image - it says both "Welcome AngryUser" (which is a hint that I'm logged in) and "Login Attempt Failed" (which would indicate that I am logged out.) I don't think it is really possible (or practical) to both logged in and out simultaneously.
And this happened again as I just logged in. Check your logs! You do have logs don't you?

And this is only meant to be an example of a screwy login.

Unfortunately, and obviously, this could happen to anyone who entered the wrong info.

Oh, so entering the wrong info will get you logged in and out simultaneously?

I await the posting of the 11 bugs/issues you need help with.

And your going to try and solve my 11 problems. Your statements here don't lead me to believe that your going to do anything more than maybe get coffee for the person who would work on these.

Like I said before I don't think your helping your side in this. Give up.

DanDunn (logged in as AngryUser because I still can't log in as myself)

Read my reply 62 again. Same thing happens to me. EXACTLY the same thing. Just go the f*** away. You're a useless whiner.

Is that the best you can come up with for the guy who blew away your "He lying" campaign. Yeah that comment really takes ppl's mind off the truth.

TarkusShakti has really caused you ppl a problem here. He validates what I am saying. Instead of attaching us why don't you try to answer the tough questions in #28 and #46.
Probably because you can't - so you make smart remarks and keep repeating the same dribble.

What IS TarkusShakti's motive for lying?

I hope Brad reads this thread. I think some of you might be a little embarrassed.

Angry User, I will say this just one more time. You give me the creeps. The only reason you're here is you have no life of your own and are just twisted enough to do this kind of thing. NO ONE has blown anything myself or anyone else said out of the water. NOTHING you or your buddy have said is validation of anything except your mental delusions. You live in a dream world or should I say nightmare. I believe you should leave here and never come back. Check into the hospital and get the help you so desperately need.

Ok, the thread has gotten pretty nasty... lets try and take it back to the original complaint (and subsequent follow-up comments) made by Dan.

I can get all of these programs from p2p for no charge. I see updates on p2p that only lag SDC releases by about 24 hours. Free is about the right price for what I'm getting.

You're paying for the legal right to use the programs.  Pretty simple.

You are correct. Taking my money every year and ignoring my bug reports (made by email to support@stardock.com) is theft. We agree on something.

While we do try to fix bugs as we can in newer versions of our products, there is no guarantee that your bugs will get fixed in the subsequent version.  There are any number of reasons this may happen, but you are paying for the software.  You got the software.  There was no theft of any kind involved.

The bandwidth for the skin site is supposed to paid for with my Wincustomize subscription. This is a another area where they don't earn their money. When right-click and objectdock libraries were added to the website, it took more than two weeks to make them available to the PAYING wincutomize subscriptors. Besides your forced to use sdc for access and that is one sick puppy.

Your subscription pays a part of the bandwidth and server costs.  You also receive several free premium suites (most recent of which was WC Select in December), the WinCustomize Browser, and ad-free surfing.

When a library is added to the site, it's available to everyone.  There is no toggle anywhere on a library saying "Paid-only" and "Free-only"  If a library is available to anyone, it's available to everyone.

And you're not forced to use the WC Browser.  Many people choose to use it and prefer it as an alternative to the website, especially considering stability and speed issues we experienced on the previous site.  However, it's never been required.  There is nothing on the site that's magically locked away that only the browser can get to.  It's an alternative (and sometimes faster) method to accessing the galleries and forums.

In evaluating my resubscribing to OD I decided to use a mild threat to attempt to garner some co-operation from stardock support.

I've never known anyone to respond favorably to threads, even mild ones. How would you react to someone issuing you a minor threat if you didn't do something for them?  I bet you wouldn't jump at helping them and might even take an adversarial attitude.

... on this issue of "Stardock fanboys"

You came in firing with both barrels, in a pretty abrasive manner, you have to expect some response from the "happy" customers.  Especially with how you led off with the P2P comment.  The implication with that was "Why buy if I can pirate?" and around these parts, we take piracy of our products pretty seriously.  You certainly didn't help yourself any in winning people over to your point of view.

'Citizen (1)' means your account is still alive and accessible.

From time to time, Wincustomize.com has been known to have cache refresh/cookie issues that do odd things such as have you logged in on one page...and seemingly out again in the next.
It is neither earth shattering nor world-endingly important.
All sites I have ever been a member/frequent user have had the same [or worse] issues.

Let's NOT presume that were Wincustomize.com to be shutdown for recoding work it was a direct personal attempt to prevent an opposing opinion holder from posting a tirade.

Try clearing Stardock and/or Wincustomize.com cookies from your cache, ideally use IE rather than Firefox [the latter is known to dislike some sites] and try again.

Side note....were Stardock and/or Wincustomize.com such evil/nasty entities surely the nick 'angry user' would have been grabbed by now....by, say UserID 23....rather than UserID 2481432, which, I might add has existed for quite some time now, too [April 24, 2006]....perhaps you were angry once before?

Second side note.
It is quite possible Wincustomize.com/Stardock has customers/users in North Korea, just as they/we do in any other country you'd care to vilify.
To use any such country/person/race/religion as an adjectival 'negative' is called 'prejudice'.  You 'may' find a better slant to your liking on that one on Wiki, too, if you must.
Just don't use it here.

I said that there were people here who may be able to help in the thread, and I would if I could.

You, at this point, really need to put up or shut up.

If you HAVE 11 bugs/issues...if you REALLY want them fixed or to find out if they can or can't be........POST them.

No I believe you are not correct. I pay a yearly maintenance fee. Since the first year I paid the maintenance fee I have had a legal right to use the last version out when my maintenance contract expires.

What I'm paying for with this maintenance fee is updates. Updates I'm interested in are responses to my emails to support@stardock.com. Since I never receive any replies to my emails I think I am being cheated of the right to have my issues at least acknowledged, if not corrected.

No matter how you try to cut this there is no excuse for not answering emails. I say you don't answer email, TarkusShakti says you don't answer email and I believe at least one other person here said you don't answer emails. You can continue to attack everything I say (and then be embarrassed when my rebuttal is posted); but that doesn't excuse your not answering emails.

The loser clwoods indicated that TarkusShakti is my buddy. Well I now feel a warm feeling for this person with his bravery in bucking the current here with me; but he is not someone I knew before hand. I used this sites email a user section to send him my initial email. An admin should be able to verify this, by looking at the logs. Besides his unsubstantiated statements, clwood seems to use innuendo as a tool to further discredit what we have to say. clwood please see the quote at the bottom of this post.

Yes I know this. What I am saying is that those two libraries were on the website for two weeks before they were made available to the WC subscription users on sdc. Yes they were on the website but no they were not on sdc. It would have made more sense to me that they would appear on sdc for wc subscribers before they were available to the general public on the website. This would be a value for the people who pay to keep the wc website running. I have a wc subscription too!

How would you react to someone issuing you a minor threat if you didn't do something for them? I bet you wouldn't jump at helping them and might even take an adversarial attitude.

I guess you have never worked for a living. If you had you'd know that this stuff happens all the time between customers and vendors or workers and their managers.

You came in firing with both barrels, in a pretty abrasive manner, you have to expect some response from the "happy" customers. Especially with how you led off with the P2P comment. The implication with that was "Why buy if I can pirate?"

I think the poster's message is this: Reply to emails, fix your shit or I can go elsewhere. That's called voting with your wallet.

It looks like someone else disagrees with what you believe my original message said. I guess your view depends on your fanboy state.

Yes, yes...now about those 11 issues/bugs you have....we're waiting.

I DID put a hand out. I DID post your pic. Can we continue moving ahead or do we HAVE to stay mired down in the argumentative?

I believe you said you had 11 bugs/issues? There are people in this thread that may be able to help and are probably still willing to.

It was 11, right?

Post away.

You paid for updates, yes, technically true with the subscription model.  At this point, you are paying to legally obtain any future updates, or new products we may add to ODNT.  If you ceased your subscription, any update or new product you obtained from a P2P network would be illegal.  You're paying for legal updates.

I guess you have never worked for a living. If you had you'd know that this stuff happens all the time between customers and vendors or workers and their managers.

Just because it happens doesn't make it acceptable or right.

Also, I calmly, and reasonably answered your questions.  At no point was I insulting towards you, nor did I attack your complaints as unfounded.  Yet you turn around and throw an insult at me.  You reenforced the end of my first comment about your abrasive attitude.

If you actually want help with your issues, please state them.  If all you're going to do is troll and not give any of us anything to work with, this thread is over.

OK Po' You may not be capable of understanding this from what's been written here before, so I will write it out plainly for your benefit. From posting #1 the issue is: (I'm now going to reveal the issue so please, please, please pay attention) Stardock Support doesn't answer emails from paying customers regarding support issues.

The individual issues/bugs/emails are no longer relevant. Have I made this clear? Is English your native language? Are you in India (that would explain a lot!)?

And thank you for posting my picture. It helps whittle away at the untrue accusations made against me.

What were the emails about?  What were the tracking numbers?  What were the applications and the bugs in question?  We can't provide any semblance of support if you don't give us anything to work with.

If your only purpose here is to rant, you're posting to the wrong forum.  This is for people actually seeking support.

Yes, thankyou.

Thread is thus rendered redundant, and closed....
