Need help with Object Dock launch problem!

ACAD fails to start; can't find its .dlls...

(Perface appology: I posted this in ObjectBar first, sorry, newbe...)

I recently bought the WB suite, and have been happily customizing the $417 out of my desktop! But I just tried to make a Object Dock entry to launch my ACAD package and I keep getting errors.

Specifically, ACAD displays an error dialog stating that it cannot find some of its .dll files. (I searched the system, and the files are installed. Futhermore, the package starts fine using the standard Windoze shortcut...)

The only difference I can find between the OD entry and the Win shortcut is that the shortcut has an advanced option button (on Shortcut tab of the properties dialog) that displays a secondary dialog with a "run in seperate memory space" checkbox that is checked; the OD properties dialog doesn't provide this option. All of the other properties information is identical between the two.

The .dlls ACAD is complaining about are all located in a shared directory (c:\program files\common files\autodesk shared). I could (probably) get the package to load if I moved the files to the c:\windows\system32 folder, but since that's not the standard ACAD install, I'm loath to do it (likewise to make a second copy of the files, as there are several dozen, and they are LARGE...)

Any ideas?

That is really odd.

Try making a short-cut of Autocad somewhere and then putting that on your dock and seeing if it happens.

Some programs have weird start-menu icons (like MS Office which had to be specially coded to support). AutoCad might have something similar.

Hi Protaxion,

There's a couple different ways you can approach this one. One, I'm seeing that its having trouble finding certain files, which means that its "Start-In" directory might be wrong. Compare the two links to make sure that the "Start in" directory listed in ObjectDock is the same.

A second choice you have, is to make a shortcut directly to the shortcut. Now normally, if you take a shortcut and drag it on to an ObjectDock dock, ObjectDock will, instead of just pointing to the shortcut iself which could be moved/deleted/etc? It figures out what its pointing to and changes to point to the program itself. However new in v1.5, I've provided for the option to disable this behavior. That way, you can drag a shortcut from your start menu on to ObjectDock, and when you click it ObjectDock will just execute that shortcut which you know works properly. To enable this behavior, goto the "General" options area, and click "Advanced Options". From there, look for the checkbox, "When a shortcut is added to the dock, point to the target not the shortcut." and uncheck it. From there, press "OK", then drag your shortcut over.

Let me know how it goes!
