Eugenics,,Should we?

Someone once remarked that we have been practicing Eugenics with race horses for hundreds of years, yet the records have not dropped dramatically.  Indeed, some have not changed in many years.

We have not been practicing it with people, yet records in athletic events have been falling steadily and continuosly for years.

Playing God does not seem to be all it has cracked up to be.

I agree with this statement.


I've heard about this before Elie, I'm not sure I like the idea either. I can see there would be some benefits, where health and finding ways to improve people's lifestyles in that they live better are concerned, however, the implications and ramifications from this are limitless (might not be the right word I'm looking for here).

I'm all for science improving our lives and the way we live. I also know that we can't have science without experiments, but there's got to be a different way.

we use eugenics today to make stronger animals such as cow for more meat. it has been proven eugenics work, why not improve the human race, eliminate disease, autisim and such?

we are already playing God messing around wit cloning, test tube babies,
I can see the benifit of bettering the human race.

We would then have to control child birthing world wide, as the world would become so over populated. We already live longer now than way back when, surely this would pose all sorts of problems and strains on the resources required to live and feed etc.

Oh, there's benefit...with Hitler...well, he killed people he deemed as "imperfect", that's where the real flaw in his approach popped up.

There's a movie about this...but for the life of me I can't remember the title.

Remember Khan?  Do we really want that?  WHile I am Catholic, and it is against the teachings (not the tenets) of my religion, I am against it for the Pandora's Box reason.

Oh, they're still killing those they feel will be a burden on society. They just refuse to call them people, and prefer the term 'fetus'. The whole push for government sponsored welfare abortions and such are just ways of making sure we have as few kids from the wrong side of the tracks as possible. The whole abortion movement is grounded in eugenics.

It opens the door to a form of discrimination - the perfect and the not so perfect - it owuld be as in gattaca - a form of apartheid.

I think a perfect human would be a boring human, too well behaved, not unpredicatable etc.... hmmmm.... I don't think i am for it so much.
