Getting crackling sound how do I eliminate it?

Could stand it for a bit, but now it's driving me crazy. Tried turning music off, special effects off, but still crackling when ever a sound is played, I have no problem with any other applications just GC II.

Is this normal? Anything I can do to eliminate it? Makes me not want to play. Like having background music gives me the feel of playing a good game lol.

Any help would be appreciated.

anybody know of this problem? anything I can do about it?

I know, *bump*

Never heard any issue like that before, so I would expect it's some inherent problem with your system, not the game itself.

but that is the funny part, i have no problems with anything else at all lol.

Any computer savy people out there can tell me what to look for? All I know is I have an intergrated video and audio card, not shure if that helps at all.

If you post your debug.err info we can see some system specs and driver dates.
That might give a clue.

Are you playing with an old sound card ? I had problems with crackling sound in a few games, oblivion and silent hunter3 but not GC2. After looking around the best advice i found was to pick up a new sound card.

Which cleared the problem up.

i had no problem with oblivion, even with my built in 32 meg vid card, i know the settings were down to med to low, but ran good. had no problem with the sound at all.

How do I post debug.err? i don't know what that is lol

You're debug.err is in the directory where the game executables were installed. Search for debug.err if you can't find it. Open it with wordpad or notepad and copy (ctrl-c) the contents and paste (ctrl-v) them into your post.

I have similar problem sometimes. It comes and goes. Sometimes sound always breaking up. PC is quite up to date. Seems that sound operating under too low a priority. Sorry-not have a solution.

Hope this helps and isnt too late,

Start/control panel/sounds speeches and audio devices/sounds and audio devices/

Click on advanced(under speaker settings) click the performance tab and play with the hardware acceleration tab, many games with XP will actually do worse with the slider set to none. If you already had it set to none try it at max, setting it lower improved performance with win98 and lower

Also the lower quality your video card the more resouces it will pull away from your processor/motherboard leaving you with less processing power for your sound antialiasing being the number one culprit.

I occasionally have a game thats slurping up every available bit and decreasing the resources used elsewhere kills the crackling sound.

Updating your audio drivers would be a good first step... three and a half years is an eternity as drivers go.

I have a new (1-month old) laptop with the *evil* Vista OS on it and experienced this problem. After playing around trying to figure it out, I found that when a lot of background processes are running (i.e., anti-virus scans the hard drive) the crackling happens. When the anti-virus is not scanning the hard drive, sound is great.

So my advise is to see if there is anything in the background that is accessing the hard disk frequently.

P.S., did I say that I hate Vista?

Haha -- after I posted that file I read it over out of curiosity and realized the drivers were wicked old. Anyways, I updated them, and still had the problem. But I think Tertullian's on to something -- in my very un-scientific study (aka, I did this once) I closed all of my background programs except for what was necessary (I don't own virus software, incidentally). It was fine then, so I'd recommend that, but like I said, that was only yesterday. Also, the most recent drivers I think are from Oct of '06. Durn it!
