Artifical Slave Center

The Artifical Slave Center provides is supposed to provide a boost to military productions. Does anyone know for sure if it does? If so how much bonus does it provide and is it just to the planet it's on or empire wide?

It gives a .50 ability factor bonus. Meaning, a whole whopping lot of it(50%).

I think it's just for that planet though, but not entirely sure.

Well, I glad I saved my game, because the Artifical Slave Center does exactly what I thought it would, absolutely nothing. Actually, you do get charged 3 bc per week maintenance but it provides no boost whatsoever either to the planet or empire wide.

This is in v1.31, it may have worked in v1.2, I never tried it there. I checked both my planet bonuses in the planet details screen and my empire bonuses in the stats and graphs screen in the civilization manager both before and after building the ASC and no difference. I even waited a few turns just to make sure.

Live and learn. Oh well.

Opps. I stand corrected. I went and checked the PlanetImprovements.xml file. and saw the 0.5 bonus to F_AbilityFactor for the Artifical Slave Center. There was also a comment that implied that the bonus was hard coded. I checked everything again both before and after building the ASC. It is true that there's no bonus to military production shown in either the planet screen or the stats and graphs screen. But after building the ASC every planet suddenly has a higher level of military production than before the ASC was built. Also it looks like the 50% ASC bonus is applied to military production after all other MP bonuses are applied. So yes, this is a huge bonus after all.

I noticed that after building the ASC, I had to really readjust my sliders. I'm still learning how it works - it's like learning how to drive a high performance car after driving a Yugo. Careful building this if your empire is not economically flexible. (v 1.31)

I had to really crank down the Military production slider and play with the Tax Spend rate slider- I went from making a few BC's in the black at 100% Spending (40/40/20 MSR split) the turn before building the ACS, to losing around 700 BC's a turn the turn it completed. I have yet to be able to bring my Tax Spending back up to 100%, though my overall production/research/credit flow at 70-80% is comparible to what it was before at 100% Spend rate.

One weird thing was, if I cranked the Military prod slider all the way down to 0%, it still showed me diverting about 650 Credits to Military prod in the Domestic Policy screen, but the actual production of ships on each world still went to Never in the Colont Management screen.

This is true of pretty much any manufacturing or research bonus. I know you don't pay full price for the bonus production (I think it's half), but you do have to be careful or you'll find yourself in an economic hole. To me, the most frustrating thing is to have to reduce your overall spending, because it means you're paying maintainence on idle productive capacity. If this condition lasts for any length of time, you'd be better served by building some economic buildings over a portion of your factories.
