ObjectBar and Right-Click

I haven't been using OB for a long time (too buggy), but now there's 2.0 and it is looking good! However, for some reason (marketing?) Stardock removed the way to configure the right-click pop-up desktop menu via the Theme Editor. And that is a shame. Of course we have Right-Click (RC), but that is really a subset of OB (just open the respective editors and see for yourself - see also some notes later). The funny thing is that OB is still capable of handling a desktop menu by its configuration files. I found this out the hard way. I installed OB while running RC. The OB theme that was activated had a desktop menu configured. This clashed with the already installed RC menu!
So, if you are handy with manual editing theme files you can do without RC completely.

I hope Startdock will re-instate the rc desktopmenu into OB. So that OB owners can stop running RC just for this one feature. For power users I'd recommend stop using RC and manually add the rc desktopmenu. It's a bit tricky, but, hey, why are they called power users.

Some comparison notes OB vs RC:

OB: Theme Editor [tabs: properties-content-skin]
RC: Menu Editor [tabs: content-skins-hotkey]

Content tabs are nearly identical (OB has grouping)
RC has a separate tab for Hotkey, while in OB it's a button in the Properties tab
OB Skin tab has a few more options compared to the RC Skins tab

OB got a couple of extra elements to put in a menu: Folder, Virtual Desktops
(side note: Folder, Link and Folder Menu are quite similar in use and functionality; I wouldn't mind Stardock just combined the three).

The Menu bar in both editors are practically the same. Of course the OB File Menu has more options and you can configure more bars via the OB Bars menu obviously; in RC you can only configure the Desktop menu (RC Menus = OB Bars).

Correction:

Unfortunately, the poweruser tip doesn't work. It was too good to be true.

With the theme editor in previous releases you could define a desktop menu that would appear after clicking the right mouse button on the desktop.

This functionality has now been removed from the theme editor. When it was still working the theme editor created 2 lines at the bottom of an obtheme file (just a plain text file) e.g.:

[DesktopRightClickBars]
Bar#1=ContextMenu

By adding these lines manually (with a reference to an existing bar in the Open Bars section), I thought it would still work in the latest version of OB. How silly of me.

The idea was fed by a problem I had when OB and RC were running side by side. The OB theme I used (pre-version 2.0) had an desktop menu configured. Both OB and RC were fighting for their desktop menu to appear.

So, Stardock removed the option to create a desktop menu, but didn't do it well.

Hopefully, Stardock will re-introduce the desktop menu bar in OB.
Actually, it would also be a sales opportunity for Stardock. It would be an incentive for RC owners to upgrade to OB with far more options (multiple bars, startmenu, taskbar, notification tray). Because once they are hooked on RC they want more; OB can fulfil their needs.
