Idea/Question/Suggestion

(or two annoying things that could be fixed or maybe I just don't know how!)

Just want to say I love the game, have been palying a while, but took a break and am now back.

The most annoying thing I find is that I'm not able to change production of a ship type on all planets currently producing that ship type at once.

ex: 20 planets are currently producing the 'MegaFighter' design. I research and get a better engine and weapons system, and create a new 'SuperMegaFighter' design. I should be able to assign all planets making 'megafighter' to switch to 'SuperMegafighter' without having to do so on each and every planet in the list. Perhaps such a feature already exists? If not, I recommend such a feature be developed. It would take out one of the more tedious aspects of the game. (Currently I simply wait for the production notice of the ship to appear and then change production- which is ok, but the end result is that the shipyard design screen gets really crowded- since obsolete kills current production and defaults the planet to producing 'nothing' rather than the next available ship of the same class.

Which would be another fix. When you obsolete a ship that is currently in production, the planet should automatically switch to producing the newest available design of that same hull size. (if there isn't one available, it could default to nothing or prompt you for action on such).

Finally, a suggestion for minor races. I don't tend to go looking to give out ships, but minor races seem particularly enamored of asking me for stuff, and if they just happen to be fighitng my enemy or a soon to be enemy, I am inclined to give them a ship. But being by the time I have ships to give them, they are scattered throughout the board, I don't have time or want to spend the effort searching through every deployed ship to find the one closest to them to give to them so the AI will actually use it rather than just let it sit wherever it currently is. The AI needs to do a better job with ships you have given it- say moving them across the board on their own rather than letting them sit uselessly wherever I had them stationed when they were gifted. Surely this cannot be that hard of an issue to fix.

Thanks and if anyone knows of a way to do the first couple things I've mentioned thats already in the game, please let me know!

There's a governor under the Civilization Manager that will do exactly what you want. You can change all planets producing ship x to producing ship y.

Also, you can change the ship you're producing in the middle of production. The money currently spent on the old ship will transfer to the new ship. You can even stop producing anything and later come back to the same planet and start producing another ship and all the production previously spent will be credited to your current build. Often when you invade a planet, you'll find there can be a fairly large credit of production left over from the previous owner.

You can use this feature to build up credit in your starport just as long as you don't let the scheduled ship complete. For example, you might still be researching a tech that you want to use to build a fleet of ships. While you're doing the research you can partially build "placeholder" ships that you stop just before completion. Once the research is finished you can design the ship and start building it on planets with this built up "credit" and produce it more quickly than you otherwise could.
