The Freedom of the Torians

We were a simple race. We grew on our homeworld, called Toria, and were happy to live, and let live. Until the Drengin came. Those brutal and dangerous being surprised us, and took control of our entire specie, for millenias. Until we grew strong ennough to drive them off. But never again, will our kin be the same.

Now, with the help of the humans, we have managed to free ourselves from Toria alone, and feel ready expand, in order to survive, whenever the Drengins will come back.

Our exploration ships were lucky, and discovered half a dozen worlds, some of good qualities, within reach of Toria. However, in our travels, we have met two kin we would have not cared to miss: the Yor, a specie who didn't looked that different from the drengins, at least in morality. And our long-lived nemesis, the Drengins.

We ignored a few worlds in our first colony rush, and we now regret it. The Drengins seized Toria IV, which we deliberetly left unnocupied, for better times. They also seized one of the twin world that marks the border between our territory, and the Yor's.

However, with these kinds of neighbour, we planned to defend ourselves. Our scientists discovered ways to intensify light power within a powerful and harmful beam, called "Laser". With this new weapon, we built a small fleet of small ships, called "Blood Patrol". Because these ships would make every ennemy pay in blood for their conquest of Torian worlds.

We got to meet other races, more peaceful. The Arceans, the Humans, Thalans and Altarians. We developped strong economic ties with the Arceans, but we fear that they are just that for now, economic. The Drengin are arming themselves more and more every day, and we may not be up to the challenge...

Until, finally, we decided that if we didn't attacked now, in a preemtive attack, we would eventually be the loosers. We stroke with a new generation of Blood Fighters, and managed to disable some of their battle fleet.

However, by being too aggressive, we were reckless. We left on of our remote world undefended, and a sneaky Drengin Transport attacked, and killed everyone of their population.

That atrocity was not to be left unanswered. Our engineers managed to built the biggest starship of the galaxy: the Attack Gunship. Equipped with the newly developped Plasma Cannons, it was more than a match for the Drengin fighters. We used a cleverly built military starbase, bordering Drengia, to launch an incredible assault on their homeworld. We did to them what they did to us. We invaded their homeworld, and we killed everyone on it. Drengia was us, and the Price of Blood has been repaid.

Quickly, the Drengin realized they were not of a match for us, and petitionned for peace. In exchange of many social-improvement technologies, they would share with us their most powerful weapon: the Nano-Ripper.

And right after the end of the Torian-Drengin war, the galaxy was at peace. The Torians and the Arceans were the two most powerful species of the galaxies, and they signed a treaty of Alliance. It was a time of peace, and understanding...

But the Altarians wanted to rid everything evil from the face of the galaxy, and attacked the Yor in a brutal manner. Some weeks after that, while our species stilled struggled to rebuild a civilian infrastructure, the Leader of the Arcean Empire visited one of our world, to inspect the factory their governement has some business dealing with. A strike occured at the same time, and a protested shot him. The mighty Arcean-Torian alliance was broken in a savage war...

Where the Drengin had used crude mass-drivers to fight, the Arcaean used effective beam weapon and shield, the exact same than ours. A war of attrition was at hand, if our brillant leader had not insisted that we aquired the Drengin's mass driver. A new generation a medium ship was put into service. Where the Attack Gunship was shielded and possessed powerful beam weaponry, the Corvette BM-1 would have 1 nano-ripper and phasors to peirce Arcean's defenses, while wearing a powerful shield.

However, the nano-ripper was a costly technology, and it would be some time before the Corvette BM-1 would get out massively out of the shiyards...

I don't like the Torians. They breed too fast.

The war went.. on an average, against the Arcean. Until the first Corvette BM-1 arrived massively on the front line, our fleet used a tactic of attrition. On a whole, our Blood Patrol-4 and 5 and Attack Gunship-1, 2 and 3 were of much higher power than the Arcean's vessels, and our fleet were equally matched in term of numbers. But they outnumbered us by 2 to 1.

We simply gathered all our fleet on a nevralgic point (known as the 3-Corners). It was at the former border between our empire and the Yor's, which were previously destroyed by the Altarian and the Arcean. At this point, 3 empires touched each others, and the.. now-minor race, the Drengin, possessed also a planet in the sector. It was the main passage for any Transport to conquer our core worlds. We made our stand there..

And succeded! After a few months of bloodshed, the first Corvette BM-1 arrived on the front line! But instead of sending them directly to 3-Corner, we gathered 2 full fleets of them, and sent them behind ennemy lines, to cut any reinforcement and transport ships. The Eye of the Universe, a wonder recently built by our engineers, was a great help to procure intelligence on our ennemies' wereabout, and not a single ship managed to cross the Corvette Blocus.

By the time the new generation of warship, the Corvette BM-2, was arriving on the front line, we had conquered 2 Arcean colonies, cutting their empire in two: there was their main core worlds, and the former Yor worlds.

Seeing that we were in position to launch an invasion on every single world, the Arcean lobbied a peace treaty. Our peace-loving civilization agreed..

A long, long, time of peace then arrived for the Torian. We increased our relation with the Terrans, and made allied out of them. So with the Thalans, and the Iconians. No one would dare take on the Torian Empire.. except maybe the Altarian, the only power who surpassed us in military term. But where they barely beat us on military statistics, we had a population twice their number!

We built an incredible economic infrastructure, space stations spreading all around our worlds, increasing our research and manufacturing bonus. The Drengin, with only 4 worlds left, all of them.. spread INSIDE our Empire, weren't much of a treath.. Except when they bring the treath on themselves..

The Arcean and Altarian Empires declared unilaterally war on the once-Mighty Drengins. We had no problem with that.. except that since their worlds were spread inside my empire, invasion fleets would cross MY territory. Toria would never allow it.

Once again, the peaceful Torian designed the greatest and most powerful warship of the galaxy. of a Large size, we called them Conqueror Cruiser-1. They were outfitted with the most powerful phasers and singularity drivers available, and protected with Tri-Strontium and barriers. With our new economic infrastructure, in was a matter of WEEKS before the first cruisers would be put into service..

The war was going badly for the Drengins. They fought well, but they were simply outnumbered by 5 to 1. Arcean and Altarian fleets were beggining to invade our territory.. But we now had the Conqueror Cruisers. However, they never even been tested in battle, so we would not DARE use them right away..

Our Intelligence agency proposed a sneaky plan: give the 3 first Conqueror Cruiser to the Drengin Empire, and see how they fare in battle. It was a risky plan.. after all, the Drengin, with their.. intellectual disadvantage, would not be able to run the cruiser at peak efficiency.. But the plan was still approved. All 3 cruisers were renamed Privateer, and quietly passed on Drengin High Command.

At first, it didn't seemed like a good idea. Statistics showed that when we owned the ships, their attack powers were 20/12, they were now 14/8. Protection arrays suffered the same kind of problems..

But our doubts were quickly washed away, when a single Privateer simply annihilated a WHOLE Altarian Battle Fleet. Our Conqueror Cruisers passed the test of fire with high hand! But even 3 of these would not turn the tide of the war for the Drengins. Altarians and Arceans simply sent everything they had against the Privateers.. managing to destroy them..

And now, a whole invasion fleet was at the center of Torian territory.. that would not be allowed. Armed with 20 Conqueror Cruiser, we decided to protect the Drengin and defend the sovreignty of our territory, by declaring war on the Altarians and destroying everything bearing their mark. The Arcean quickly retreated, knowing what a war with the Torian meant.

Nothing could stand against the Conquerors, they were too quick, to powerful. Often, a single one of them would wipe a whole Altarian fleet without even a scratch. Nothing could penetrate their shields or armor. Eventually, the Altarian fielded extremely powerful battlefrigates.. only to be met with Conqueror Cruiser-2, who was 30% more powerful than it's predecessor.

But the Torian learnt in war what posture to have in peace. during our prosperous and calm peacetime, we spread around the galaxy 20 Blood-Fighters of the last generations, with order to stay dormant until further notice. When the war broke out with the Altarians, these Blood-Fighters attacked every freighters in sight, every starbase, every constructors. The fleet sent to neutralize them weren't quick ennough to catch up with them, and so, precious military ressources were distracted from the front line, where the Conqueror wreak havoc.

1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6 Altarian worlds fell to us. Often, we simply needed 500 million troops to conquer a single world, using an efficient propaganda..

The Altarian, seeing their doom, finally agreed to sign peace. No one could stand against the Torian Empire. But war was not our motto.. we force the Arcean to sign a treaty of Alliance, and the Drengin. only the Altarians were reticents.

Until the Doomsday Frigate. Our engineers finally regrouped the most deadly technology to every see the dawn, in our universe. Armed with disruptor, and protected with force fields, nothing could stand against one... They had 50 attack and 30 defences. And they were cheap to build. In a matter of 2 months, we had 30 of those patrolling the galaxy, making sure no one ever disturbed the peace. Within 5 months, the military power of the Torian Empire was higher than the sum of every other races left..

The Altarian had no choice. They finally signed yesterday an alliance treaty, finally sealing the galaxy in a durable peace, where every races would be free.. until they don't upset the Torians.

Wow... how the hell does your economy support all those ships?!

LOTS of morale and pop. growth bonus, half of my planets being "M" class planets (commercial centers) ("M" for money, where morale and economic building being 90% of the buildings.).

I also have "F" class planets, for factories (Shipyards), "R" class planets (research colonies). Sometimes, "I" class, for influence (I call them "Negociating grounds")

I just wonder if I should have given more Conqueror Cruiser to the drengin, to cripple more efficiently the Altarians and the Arceans.. But the Drengins would have eventually turned on me, and these "gifts" could be very powerful against.. my own fleet..

And I would love to see the A.I. using the "sleeper ship" strategy against me.. they could break hell on my economic if targetting my own starbases..
