Game problem

Just bought the game last night and installed it on my machine. It installed with out issue and when I went to launch the game it plays the intro and when it gets to the end of the intro the game just closes out and I go back to my desktop without any error messages. I run Windows XP pro with 256 mb of ram and have plenty of hard drive space and My Video Card is a Sis 630 with 64 mb and I have directx 9c and recieved no warnings or anything that would lead me to beleave that I don't meet the requirements. Any ideas on how to fix the issue?

There is a file called debug.err in the main program folder, usually C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2. Open that file with Notepad, select all and copy, then paste it into a post. More than likely your video drivers are too old.

No carriage returns? What gives?

I will do that as soon as I get home from work tonight.

The other thig I have noticed is that you barely have enough ram to run the game. Gal Civ II is a Ram intensive game and requires up to date drivers to work right on systems with more than enough System requirements. Also make sure you have all the graphics options turned down to the lowest settings, and if it still gives you trouble post your debug.err Brother Angelon

The main problem is I can't get to the options to turn down the graphics. The intro plays I try to hit enter or click the mouse and it just closes out, never got to see what the main menu looked like. I will post the debug when I get home around 5:00pm cst. The problem is I don't think it has much to do with the ram as other games have done this before but I could be wrong as I have been many times before. I have made sure that I had nothing running in the back ground that didn't need to be. Could increasing my page file help any? One other thing you will point out is that the drivers for my video card are from 2003 but the oem for the card did not update it since then, I spent the betetr part of 2 hours searching for it and the sis website only had that one for my particular card.

Then you will probably need to replace the video card.

Several problems pop out. You have not updated anything. Not Windows XP to SP2 - or even SP1, your video drivers, audio drivers, or the game itself. It is not surprising it does not work. To tell you the truth, you could use a new computer, plain and simple. That one will never run this game well.

Thanks everyone for your help and time. I am working on getting a new computer, it might be a while though, as for now the game loaded perfectly on my friends PC and have been playing it there, as for the non updates, it isn't exactly a legal copy of windows so no service packs for that p.o.s. Looking into getting a Dell or building my own, might be too lazy for that, anyone know of any good places to get a good PC?

Well the only problem that I have encountered with GC2 thus far is on the Ship Design screen. The 3 rotational component dials never let me position the axis at the 5oclock position on the dial. I can select the other points without a problem and it doesn't matter what the component is that I am trying it with weapon, engine module etc.

What would be great would be if they instead used a rotational slider that allowed you to also input the degree of rotation in. Similar to the slider and input box in the Diplomacy screen for Credits and Influence points. The slider would give you more control in the long run.
