I knew I was outnumbered, but... wow.

Am I really one of the few girls who play this game?? That seems so strange... there have got to be more of us out there. Come on, back me up here.

Yeah i'd say maybe 2 or 3 girls play this game, from what i've noticed specially from my wife is that girls usually hate video games, but hey im 20 and i'll probly still be playing games till im to old to know what im doing

I'd say that 2 or 3 is probably a pretty low estimate across the entire world...

There could be other factors as well- for instance that more of the men are visiting the website.

I dont think that there are that few female gamers out there, however turn-based strategy (especially scifi-one) may not be their favourite genre.

Well, once i meet this girl i chat to, i will try to encourage her to buy this game, it is pretty good...

Girls do play computer games, I have met a few, but they tend not to like strategy games or indeed any other game that lasts a long time.

They ALL seem to love tetris, puzzle games etc...

The majority of the female sex however seem to hate computers, wierd given that they love there mobile phones which nowadays is a computer.

Anyway thats my view.

Not that I even want to see what a female Drengin looks like, but there is a distinct lack of women among the human and alien leaders.

Ooooh... I bet my flagship that they are at least as cuddly as their male counterparts, if not more

Hate?... or just don't understand?

My wife watches me play sometimes, but she prefers puzzle type games or multi-player PS2 games (like guitar hero and fighting games).

Though she does like Metroid, Megaman, Mario Brothers, and Zelda.

Theres one game women/girls all seem to love.

SIMS.

I personally hate that damn game. I mean i thought games were meant to be about escaping from the real world not acting out a poor copy of it?

I know a couple of women who occasionally play comp games but as Meglobob says they dislike turn based games.

Eh one more thing. Why is this in bug reports?

I assume you're refering to the male/female poll on the forum. But, other than that (which is a self-selecting poll on a self-selecting forum), how do you know if a person here is male or female? The names are arbitrary and self-selected. Ditto for any pictures.

BTW. The Lead Developer for GC2 is female: Cari Begle. Here's a profile of her:

There probably are more female gamers out there that play this game, however due to constant harassment, sexism, and downright ignorance of alot of male gamers they probably tend to avoid male dominated areas (forums). If you dont belive me load up a game of Warcraft 3 go into a game and say your female, watch as everyone starts whispering you asking bra size, color of panties, ect ect. It's even worse on games like Halo where they can actually speak *shudders at the 13 yr old incompetence* However, Turn based strategy games do seem to hold a more significant number of mature adults, at least in my opinon. So with that said, Game on Girl, tell your friends about the game.

I know a lot of girls who play the Sims, and RPGs, but none who play wargames. I've known a few girls who play chess. When I use to play Pimpwars I had a couple of girls on my team, but even that was a bit unusual since there were very few girls who played that game.

If it was Fantasy, Girls would dig the game more. Space is kind of a crapshoot. Sorry.

If they made an Age Of Wonders III, maybe it would have a good girl fanbase (AOW II is too old...)

The only girls i know who play games play Counter-Strike or MMORPGs.

MMORPGS last longer than any type of game and they love it. They have the largest female population of any game genre.

Actually, I think most of those are my friend Sarah. She is online 14 of 24 hours everyday playing her mmorpg. And I thought guys were bad. I'm not sure who to feel sorrier for: her computer or her husband.

I personaly do not know any girl gamers. That may be because I live in the deep south where most chicks are happily chatting away on instant messengers.

I'm a 20 y-old girl. At the moment, I alternate between GalCiv 2 and Heroes of M&M 5, and between the forums dedicated to those two turn-based strategy games.

I've noticed that there are a lot more females in fantasy games than in science-fiction based games. When I was playing Everquest, I knew a large number of females, and I knew they were because I talked to them either on the telephone or using one or another voice-chat programs. Comparatively, I only knew a very small number of females in EVE and Earth & Beyond. As a genre, too, strategy does not seem appeal to many females, as far as I have observed, though I hesitate to comment on what the reason(s) might be, be it genetics, cultural reasons or something I jsut would not think of. I am not saying females aren't capable of strategic thinking, and I am certainly not particularly good at it myself, but for entertainment purposes I don't think females are generally drawn to this sort of game. Those that are, however, I have noticed are damn good at it!

You have to be good at strategy games and that is one thing that most girls don't do is think about things on a continual basis making sure things suit an outcome that is great.. << that is an observation not a fact >> Now Turn Based games take a long time and if you are not Cari Begle (Whoa hope I didn't butcher your name Cari) and design games like this you might be in the dark as to how to play them.. Now girls are no better than guys in the fact that they can learn almost anything a man can.. It is mainly the intrest pointed to this genre of gaming which holds them back.. the few girls that are here.. I cheer for you, It takes quite the smarts to understand how this game works right and any person who has played Chess all there life can say that it takes concentration on the game to win in the end..

[...O]ne thing that most girls don't do is think about things on a continual basis making sure things suit an outcome that is great.

Whatever that means...I doubt that it is based on any scientific research in cognitive neuropsychology. It is just an opinion...formulated in an odd, totally personal style.

[...And] if you are not Cari Begle (Whoa hope I didn't butcher your name Cari) and design games like this you might be in the dark as to how to play them.

I'm a girl, but I'm not Cari Begle. I study Quantum Mechanics, but I don't design games. Should I limit myself to play with kiddie/girlie dolls, senor El Mucho Macho?

You sure have a way with girls...but perhaps [name withheld] is vulnerable to your very peculiar, verbal charm.
