question about alliances (maybe a 1.2bug?)

Alliances always worked, as I inveted the tech, I could form alliances.

Im playing the first game with 1.2 and got alliances, but I cant form an alliance Anything special about this?
Im neutral, my ally is good... maybe is this a problem?!?

Do you have a close relationship?

Yeah, your realationship "rating" matter, like Moosetek13 said. You have to have at least a "close" relationship.

no you could have it at friendly (not all the time) but you can form an allience at friendly

Not to mention the fact that they too need to have the Alliances tech. But that should go without saying.

we are on "friendly" terms and I gave the alliance tech to them, so it should work...

"Friendly" isn't a guarantee, "close" is.

That is strange! I have played over 10 games and I have never seen a "Close" relationship. As soon as I see "Friendly" I just select alliance and drop them a bribe if needed. Works every time.

Yeah... if you are friendly and offer an alliance you often need to sweeten the deal with cash or tech (as it'll be red otherwise). Though oddly, the cash is usually not much... maybe only 20bc even!

If you are close, it's much easier if not a given.

Yep, the only way it's certain is if they're "close" and they have the alliance tech.

They do not need the Alliance tech. People always say they do, but they don't.

You need the Alliance tech to propose an alliance, but not for someone else to propose it to you.

My guess is people can't make an alliance, give alliance tech to the race, and hey it's a bribe so now they say yes.

People then make the assumption that it was the alliance tech that made it work rather than the bribe.

I think I can explain whether you need 'close' or 'friendly' relations: the Relations screen shows your relationships a step down from those shown on the Treaties screen. So, if you are listed as 'close' on the Treaties screen, the Relations screen will show it as 'friendly'.

As for the Alliance tech, you need it to propose an Alliance, but I am fairly sure the other race does not need it to agree to it.

the problem is, that I did not got the "alliance" option at all... be able to at least propose it and they would deny, would be a step in the right direction. But as said, I could not even offer an alliance.
