Number of factories

Apart from 8pq planets, where all the spaces aside from two (1 for a star port and entertainment centre) are factories for ship production

how many factories do you put on the 9+ ones? Stil two, or more to make the upgrades of other buildings go faster?

Why are you only getting 8 and 9's? I've got 17, 22 and 26's! On my 26, i've got13 facs and a manuf. capital. Inustry output is about 400!

Anyway, on a 9, I'd have at least 4 facs but this could change as I specialize later.

I dont just get 8 and 9's! Just for anything over a 12, i make into a cash planet, pretty much all trade centres, afew farms and entertainment to keep em happy.

I just wanted to know, for planets that are nothing but research or trade, in order to make the upgrades of the buildings go faster when you've researched them, how many factories would be best.

It's just the 8 or less planets, i use for soley ship building. between 8-12 then its research. 12+ trade.

It would depend on how fast you want to get upgrades. I tend to balance my planets more, although I am not sure I will stick with that strategy. That being said, I found that 4 factories usually can get my upgrades done in a reasonable amount of time. But that was also under 1.0x. I am (trying) to help with the beta right now, and social waste being fixed is going to change a lot of things I used to do. IE: when a social upgrade became available, I would focus the majority of the empire on getting them done. I would wait until I have enough upgrades to keep all my planets busy

I like to start with a balance and stay fairly balanced, at least on low PQ planets, so that production isn't hampered by anything and my cash flow stays good. It really depends on what is available. I am trying out rare stars, rare planets, but abundant usable planets in a large galaxy. This usually gives me about 12 stars with 1-3 usable planets per star, which isn't much when you have 6 other races, and the planets are generally PQ6-8 excepting home systems which have a 10-15 and a 4-6.

It's a tight race for the uninhabited systems, and I am leery of javcking up the difficulty level until I have this scenario down pat. I may have to switch to highly specialized planets to make it work, but for now I want to make sure my economy is strong empire-wide and only reserve one planet each for major production and research. This way may hamper me if I lose the production or research planet, but at least I'll still be in the running economically because no one planet will be the lynch pin of my financial well-being.

i had a 26 one time i loaded with so many factories along with the bonuses i had more then 1000 production each turn it was great for building capital ships in 2 turns haha

I find that when I have planets with tons of factories I have a difficult time balancing my budget. I'll have a 700BC capital ship done in 2 turns, which means I'm paying 350BC a turn for it. I usually run my budget pretty close to the red line (close to defecit spending) so I don't usually have a surplus of cash. If I try to crank ships out fast, that's great for the war effort, but it sucks for my economy. I find it better to have 3-4 worlds that can each build my ships in 7-12 turns, so that I can spread the cost around.

If I'm getting desperate and the AI is clobbering me I'll wipe out some tiles, or put some research into soil/habitat enrichment and add a few facs to my Manuf. Cap. Then I can usually turn the tide with some heavy deficit spending, after which I might knock a few facs down and make the people happy again.

What a waste!

Loading a PQ26 with expensive factories is a big no-no. You should make those into economic powerhouses, instead of an economic drainage. 10 factories?! Your governor's deficit must put the Bush administration's spending ability to shame.

It's much easier on your Econ to find a world with 1 or 2 300% manufacturing bonus squares, or a 700%, add a couple more factories, then throw up a couple economy star bases around it. Pump up the star bases to give them even more manufacturing bonus, and you will be pumping out ANY ship in 1 turn, effortlessly, and cheaply.

I have to agree I always use a low pq 8-12 for my industrial capital. Of course I always use the one with +300% or more in industrial bonuses. And then I park starbases around it (four in each sector that will overlap it)...Then I crank out the big guns (and give them to minor races so that I can watch the Chaos )

Big planets = wealth and health... economic buildings, research centres, and bonuses (ie. trade goods)
