Whats point of moving the home world?

i found a hugh planet early game and decided to make it my home world, esp as it was easy to defend and they was 3 other good sized planets around the same sun

Thing is i expected my new homeworld to become my new colony capital, but this is not the case sadly

So now i wonder, what is the point of assigning a new home world, what the benfit if any at all?

I have not noticed any change from moving your homeworld. The initial colony of your starting homeworld is better than others, but it doesn't change when you move your homeworld.
