Winning without ANY combate ships

I dont belive it, i stuggled so much on this game in past, but tonight i just owned a hugh galaxy 9 aliens, but the odd thing is, i never built ANY combat ships, and not once did anyone decare on me it was crazy, granted i had insane diplomacy and strong economy, early game i bribed the 2 biggest nations to war each other, then bribe my closet neigbour (altarian) to keep them sweet so not to bully me as i had NO combat abilty, before i knew it altarians was the super powerhouse nation, the defeated 2 races to compleate extiction but then it all started to happen.....

during all this my economy just got stronger and stronger, my dipolomacy swell to astounding levels, i was in lead of all technology, i 'could' of built large capital ships, bt i built NOTHING, all i built all game after the first colonisation was lots constructors, 3 military bases and 2 economy bases, and full upgrade all the mining bases (which i litterally bought of the other races)

around this point suddenly my influence swelled at a astounding rate, i literally flooded thw whole galaxy in under hour, and slowly one by one all the races just ceased to exist, and even if they did try fight back at that phase it would bee to late, was consuming 2-3 planets a round through influence alone

The only downside was i didnt get into any battles, i had no ships capable of battles lol
All this was on normal difficulty, hugh galaxy, 9 races, think it time i stepped up a grade heehee

i wonder tho, has anyone else had a 'unusall' experiace like that

Yep. My first victory was a cultural victory. I never built a single attack ship, nor a single transport. Nothing. Just made nice-nice with everyone and built TONS of starbases, then researched the heck out of the tech tree for anything that would increase my influence and diplomacy.

It was a blast actually. It was what proved to me that you actually can win the game any way you want.

Excellent!

You wouldn't believe how much effort it was to make it possible to win the game without having to have a big military or any real military. In GalCiv 1, you always had to have a bunch of military ships.  This time, we wanted to make sure that you really could win thorugh being a trade czar, culturalist, or ultimate diplomat.

Congrats! And nice job!

im playin a game as the thalans on suicidal difficulty with max research and diplomacy as the populists (+20% diplo/morale), i build every diplomacy trade good and wonder myself (including the galactic bazaar) and im having no trouble buying everything off ais, keeping my enemys at war and making minor races extinct so the aliens can build up mining starbases to sell them to me.
One time the UN came by and forced me to share all of my techs, that was a massive stab to me but i have to many starbases now and i will inevitably culturally conquer this gigantic galaxy with 9 races on suicidal difficulty. Now i am under the impression this happens among other reasons because the ai does not optimize its planets (not making 80-90% research production around its techno cap). But also because i can earn a lot of money by researching one tech.
I am also a litle annoyed because the ais appears to research the same techs as every other ai, never do sprint to for example research all influence or diplomacy techs.
